Red String Blocks

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2019 is working on your Red scraps this month. My reds are in good shape, sorted, many blocks made last year. But I did not get my Red string blocks done till this Saturday. I got 14 half red blocks done. Some Lime and Purples were done to those are done ready to be trimmed. 

Then I had computer trouble. My editing program is not working well. I could not resize my photos. Well today I got it partly done but with a different program. Not really happy with what I used. So I am still in the hunt for a good program that is easy and quick to use. 

Here is one block ready for another colour on the other half. There are Chickens and Cherries prints. 

More Red is over at Socrappy. So many ideas for scrap quilts. Check it out. This looks to be the last Saturday of Jan so Feb will have a new colour, looks like that might be Yellow. 

So it it Monday I will also join the Design Wall Monday over at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts. 

What have I worked on?

Yesterday I was teaching Many Trips Around the world.  I few of my dog agility friends wanted to learn to quilt. So I had a class for them. This is the newer set of blocks I got done to show how we could change the setting. This is the start to the next quilt on the design wall. 

Look at all the fun fabric in this quilt. Yes a real mix of nice fabrics. Batik, Tula and KFC. 

The week before, on Saturday, I was teaching scrap quilts. The Battle River Quilt Guild had me out to teach. They have been quilting for years and have many scraps to use up. My quilt Bounce Ball was the main class sample and the units we were making could be used to make the ball or the Friendship star. I kind of laughed as we could call this star block - Crumby Friendship Star.

Crazy Scraps

Ok, this is small and a bit crazy. 

It measures 16" tall and just under 19" wide. 

I had been working on log cabin blocks and needed real small scraps. So, I saved bits less then 1" squares in a tin, nicknamed the Little Tin of Horrors. I got the log cabin blocks done and thought I might light the tin of scraps on fire. But then I though maybe I could sew some together.

 Oh yes very crazy. Well, I kept sewing. 

Now I have a piece of fabric. Not sure what I will finish it into. Maybe a bag. 

So no more Little Tin of Horrors. 

And no more saving tiny bits there has to be a limit.

 I will keep 2" squares or any log over 1 1/2".

Monday Design Wall

On Friday, I head out to quilt retreat with the Leduc guild. I have this Honey Comb quilt as a UFO that will go with me and is high on the list to complete the top. All the main blocks are done but I need to cut out more background triangles. Maybe I can get those cut before I leave. Not sure I have enough strings for the boarder so maybe I will hunt in my scraps or I will have to cut some more.

Also on my wall for a bit this weekend was a new project, or should I say the fabric for a new project. This was one set of fabric. The dark batik was interviewed for the job of background. Maybe too dark.  

I got out some hand dyed fabric to interview. The purple on the right looked better. But I only had a fat quarter. I needed more then 3 m. I decided to try and dye more of the same colour. I got it. 

So the purple hand dyed fabric has now won the job. Maybe I can get some cutting done before I leave for retreat. 

I have lots of work, Long Arm Quilting to get done this week. So best get to my customers quilts. 

Design Wall Monday

My Design Wall has been busy this weekend. I played around with nine patches and some Tim Holtz fabric, this was the final layout. I have started to make another new jacket for myself. I love the dark blue fabric and thought this all would look so good with Denim. 

I took apart a few old pairs of jeans. I also gave the leg parts an extra wash. Some legs looked like they were not real clean and they did come out cleaner. 

I took the belt waist area off 2 pairs for an idea. We will see if I like the waist used or not. 

So I got both side of the front of the jacket together and then did the machine quilting. 

This is the patch work I started with. I ended up making the nine patches the other way. So 5 dark units with 4 in the corner. So I had a bit of resewing to do. I am happy with the end way.

On Ringo Lake

I have been working on the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt On Ringo Lake. The link is where you can find all the information about the clues. I know some did some different colours. 

I am far from done. I have 13 blocks done so far. That is not even half yet. I do have all my units done, like the nine patches in the center and All the flying geese. 

Here is one of the blocks. I really love the colours of this year mystery. 

See lots of units ready for the next step. I even have some rows of units ready for the block. I still have lots to do.

Monday's Wall

My wall is looking the same as Saturday. I was to busy working on Icing my fancy cookies this weekend. This was started when Bonnie Hunter released a leaders and enders challenge this summer. One example she suggested was the Checkerboard in black and white. I just had to also do it Rainbow too. 

Also I am winding down on the machine quilting for Christmas. This is one customer's quilt I did earlier this month. I have one small wall hanging to do today. Then I can work on some small gifts. 

Here is the whole quilt with one little spot of sunlight.

Design Wall Monday Nov 20th

This is what is on my Design Wall today. Purple checker board rail fence. The rail fence is a leaders and ends Challenge by Bonnie Hunter . 

I have so many great purple scraps. It is a big box for me.

Design Wall Monday

I have some lime green rail fence checkerboard blocks done. Green and lime are two different colours in my stash. I have a scrap box just for lime green. I once did a quilt where the back ground was lime. I got started on the rail fence checkerboard blocks after being inspired by Bonnie Hunters and her leaders and ender challenge. Go check out her post about the rail fence challenge. 

I needed a gift to give away so I got a good start with my selvages. I think I will keep going and make some for myself. I have used the heat resistant silver fabric and plan these to be hot mats. They still need a binding.

Adam's Plaid Quilt

2 weeks ago, I was at Retreat. I took my box with the parts for Adam's quilt. I worked on it for most of the weekend. Now that I am home I was able to get some of the parts up on the Design Wall. Not too bad. I still have lots of units to made but it is coming a long nicely. 

I cleaned up the end a little. I think I will put these parts on and then just chop off the extra.

Bonnie Hunter Mystery will start later this month. She released the fabric requirements. I have picked out a few fabrics from my stash. I really do not need to buy a thing. I have more then enough of all the colours. I have a few coral pinks but I think I will use a few pink pinks. I love that it will have Browns and Turquoise, they are so pretty together. 

New Design Wall Monday

Design Wall Monday is going to keep going! It has a new home over at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

I have put up my blocks from the Pizza Box Exchange up on the wall. 18 great looking blocks. I might add 2 more so I have 20 blocks, then I can do 4 by 5 blocks. Or maybe I need to think about on point blocks. Not sure yet. 

Pin wheel block. I did leave the tags on them so far. I want to go read up who did which block and maybe why or where the pattern is from. We sent a little book to record that information in. 

I love this block. A Log cabin type block. 

Dresden plate

In other news. I got a happy email. I won a prize for a link up with Sew Fresh Quilts. She had a linky party for the Canada's Big Quilt Bee. I have 2 quilts so far for the Charity drive. She informed me that I won a Layer Cake of fabric which she donated.  It is a pretty bundle of Robert Kaufman fabric. I can not wait for the fabric to arrive now. 

Cherry Blocks

I love the little 6 inch cherry blocks. The pattern is from Farm girl Vintage book. I worked on the blocks this past week. 

I was planning on posting to the Design Wall Monday, but it is no more. Kind of sad but she is not quilting much anymore. I find Monday is a good day to show off some quilting I have done on the weekend. 

Now I am getting to the sashing and planning that is needed to finish the little quilt top. I am planning a square table runner. Not sure if I am going to want to use for everyday table, I might get bad stains on it. 

I have loved the Red and Turquoise together. I found fabric with mini cherries on Turquoise. 

I also got a photo of my little tea pot. 

Monday Design Wall

I have enough blocks to still do 2 more slab quilts. Here is the 3rd quilt. I hope to get the top together in a day or 2. I am working on Charity quilts for the CQA Canada's Big Quilt Bee. They asked us to make slab blocks, quilt tops or finished quilts. Then the finished quilts will be given to Ronald McDonald House for sick kids. The quilts are due by the end of the month, so I have lots left to do.

Farm Girl Vintage

 I did a few more blocks from the book Farm Girl Vintage. This block is not in the book but is one of the extra blocks you can buy. I just love the garden and had to make peas and carrots. I love eating garden fresh peas and carrots with a dab of butter. 

Maybe I need a bunny to go next to my peas and carrots. Happy Easter!

The milk can with many different fabrics used. I should say I am working on 6" blocks, so I will need many blocks for a good size quilt. 

Here are all my vintage blocks so far. I know already I will be making more then one project from this book. I hope to do a quilt but then also a table topper with fruit, lots of red and turquoise. 

Also on the machine this weekend is my Tulip quilt. I have not decide how to quilt it so, I load it on the machine and force myself to do it.  

Up next will be the kettle block. I am loving my little design boards I made last week. I can cut out the pieces and lay out the fabric. I don't have to remeasure all the little bits because I know what I cut.

Spring Design Wall

Today is the first day of spring and my design wall is showing it in fine form. Tulips all over the place. While not outside yet, but all over the sewing room. We are cold and clear and sunning outside. We may not see tulips outside till May. I hope to see some later this week as I have a little trip planned to Victoria, BC. 

Working on getting more of this quilt up on the wall. I am starting to sew the tulips together and then next will be some rows. I got all the fabric cut yesterday. Many of the tulips have been made for some time. Saturday's post I showed you the Red field of tulips that I worked on as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I finished up a few more purple tulips also, then the other colours have been done for a while. 

The pattern for this tulip quilt is from Quilty fun.
