Statement: On a quest to use up scraps, I followed along the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017 on line. January 2017 the colour was turquoise, February was purple, and March was red. I constricted on using my hand dyed fabrics and a few batiks.  As my 2^nd piece in the series, I continued to work by adding to the center outward and using what I had. 

I had this quilt in the Canadian National Juried Quilt Show this past week. I have been keeping the quilt hidden from the internet because it was also a judged show. I was so happy to get to go see my quilt hang in the show. There were so many beautiful quilts. 

Detail photo of the quilt. Most of the fabric was my hand dyed fabric. The red was a red solid that I over dyed to add to the richness of colour. Then I did use a little bit of batik turquoise that was bought. 

I love how the colours play so well together.

Monday's Wall

My wall is looking the same as Saturday. I was to busy working on Icing my fancy cookies this weekend. This was started when Bonnie Hunter released a leaders and enders challenge this summer. One example she suggested was the Checkerboard in black and white. I just had to also do it Rainbow too. 

Also I am winding down on the machine quilting for Christmas. This is one customer's quilt I did earlier this month. I have one small wall hanging to do today. Then I can work on some small gifts. 

Here is the whole quilt with one little spot of sunlight.

Rainbows Underway

I got the time to get part of this rainbow quilt up on the design wall. I might need a few more blocks but I think I have most of them done now. Bonnie Hunter gave out a challenge of rail fence this summer, so I started making these. One of her ideas was to have the Checkerboard. I know I wanted to add in the challenge of rainbow scrap blocks too. I am not going to do a real complete rainbow, no yellow, more blue. 

Here is a few more blocks on the wall. I do not have all of this sewn yet. Maybe after Christmas day I can get more time in on it. I am very busy finishing up for Christmas. I have a few more gifts to sew. 

This week I have also been busy cooking Christmas Cookies and Candy. How is this for Rainbow like. I am calling it Unicorn Poop Fudge. It is made with white chocolate and food colouring and then the sprinkles. It is very very sweet. I also added Raspberry flavor to it.  

Today I started putting icing on the fancy cookies. Wow it is taking a long time. My hands are sore too. It has been a while since I have had icing bags in my hand for a full day. I will have to take a bunch of photos when I get more done on Sunday. 

I started with the white. But soon the red and green will come out.

Rainbow Works

I have some purple strip sets done and ready for the next step of cutting. I used 1 1/2" strips mostly out of my scrap bins. I sorted them all into 4 different colour groups. You can see the top 2 sets are more the red purples and the bottom two sets are the blue purples. I just love projects that I can randomly sew strips and then cut out the next step. I should see what else I can make doing that. Maybe a diamond quilt. 

The lilac purple strip and the dark purple strips are still needing to be sewn. I might get to it later today. I have to do more machine quilting work for customers today.  The Christmas orders are on a deal line. I hope this time next week I will be done and can be on holidays. 

I am thinking about next year already and what projects I should work on. As today is Saturday, Scrap day, Next years rainbow challenge is on my mind. I have 3 or 4 projects that are getting so close to a finished quilt top. I think they should be top of the list. Then, What kind of new blocks should I work on?

My step 2 of On Ringo Lake is done and sorted in nice piles. Step 3 came out yesterday but It will have to wait a few days. 

This is what I worked on last week when I was out sewing with my mom. It is a pattern from Sting Fling by Bonnie Hunter, called Cotton Candy ( I can not spell the Germany name she used). I have made it will all batik fabrics. I just love it. The photo shows 9 blocks together and the blocks are 9 ". I think I will just make it large lap quilt size. Ha Ha, I typed Lab first you know my dog a lab. 

I have horse shoes! The other day I just about got a ticket for speeding, the guy in front of me got pulled over, I did not. Then later in the day I was at Quilter's Dream's Elf night sale. They had door prizes and I won this little kit to make Santa ornaments. How lucky is that?

Saturday Scraps

I am away sewing with my mom today. The Edmonton Guild is having a UFO day. I do not think I will take this project as it needs more design wall work. I still have to put up the greens, teal and Lime. I love playing like this. I have almost enough blocks to make this quilt big. At least 90" square, but I might want it a bit bigger. I might be making a few more blocks. Also I think I could draft this out on paper too. Colouring!

I have added this to Soscrappy today. 

So what to pack to sew on: 

1. I think I will take step 2 of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt, so I need pink/corals and neutrals. I did play with what method was best for me on Friday. I think I will do add a square and trim off the bonus triangles. 
2. Next to pack, red Canada 150 blocks. I have that in a bag to go. I should show off my blocks I do have done. I am getting some were with it. Mom and I are doing this together, she is doing the even numbers and I am doing the odd numbers. 
3. Next, Oh the new project, batiks. Oh I need photos too. I will show something more on the wall Monday. It is Pink Purple and Turquoise, and all batik. So much fun!

Scrap Saturday

I still needed some 6 1/2" Brown sampler blocks. I got all nine done this week. I used patterns mostly from the Canada 150 blocks from Next step designs. I just grabbed which ever felt like I could do with the scrap in front of me. 

I really like this little bow tie block. I still have one brown lantern block left to do. It is cut out just waiting to be sewn. I also have a ton of black blocks still to do. Well maybe this next week I can work on more. I have added this post to Soscrappy. 

I am working on On Ringo Lake, The next Bonnie Hunter Mystery. Step 1 just came out Friday morning. I got to do a little bit yesterday. The first step used 1 1/2" strips and Look what I found, All these strips came out of my scrap bins. I had done some cleaning last week and unearthed a ton of neutral 1 1/2: strips. I had some left over turquoise and I had a few browns. It was like it was meant to be. 

This is how far I got yesterday. I will finish them up today. 

 I also got my teal or aqua scraps done for the Checkerboard Rail Fence Leaders and Enders. Not sure I will do any other colours. I might be done blocks. 

Chocolate Goodness

Look at all the great chocolate goodness I have used. And it is all calorie free. I used a stack of brown scraps and made long strip sets. 

I then cut out my units and got 4 Honey Comb blocks done. I have both Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate blocks now.

I have been looking around to see which quilt blocks I might do next year. 

Near the bottom and just to the left of center is the Hershey kiss fabric. Also to the right is the truffle chocolates too.  

I had the strips done back in Oct but did not get the blocks done on time. Orange was the colour for October so I am a little late. Most important is they got done.

November Scraps

For some years now I have been working on my scraps by following the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at Soscrappy. This month we are to work on Dark colours like Brown, Black and any colours that we might have missed. I have played with the smaller bits and pieces in my brown box and got these 9 Poverty Pieced blocks done. I know many of you call them crumbs but I first heard them called Poverty Piecing. 

I love looking back at the many different fabrics that show up in these blocks. Someday I will have a great quilt. Just not sure I am ready to stop, yet.

They are trimmed to 6 1/2" square. 

Next up I worked on my Green rail fence blocks. I started the rail fence blocks this summer after Bonnie Hunter gave out the Leaders and Ender challenge, Checkerboard Rails. The colour Green was from May and the rail challenge was not out yet. So kind of a catch up block. 

I love how these look. I have shaded the light to dark colours and it makes them look 3D. I have the Blues done and the pink done so far too. I hope to work on Lime next. Yes, Lime has it's own box in my house. 

Me and the dog have the house to our-self's today. So I plan to sew all day long and maybe a walk in the snow. 

Scrappy Snowy Saturday

November in my part of the world is very white outside, a good time to stay in and sew. Saturday scraps for November are to be Dark Brown or Black. I am a little behind and I did some more work on my Pink scraps from last month. I had a little stack of bits of pink laying around so I made some poverty piecing blocks, 6 1/2" square. These are fun when you are in the mood to make them. 

I had been working on my Honey comb blocks but was just not done enough last week to show them off. To see more of my Honey Comb blocks look here.  I found the pattern for this block Here.

So I got 6 block done in pink. I have a few different shades of pink. This was fun. 

While more poverty piecing got done this week. I had a few other little stacks of scraps and was in the mood for more, so they got sewn up, Pink, Lime, and some Blue.

I have started to sort in my brown box for fabric I can use for Brown honey comb Blocks. I know I'll have another scrap block or 2 to work on in Brown. Then maybe later in the month I will look at the black box of scraps. 

Pink Scraps for Oct

I got a little done with my pink scraps this month. I have the checker rail fence in pink done. These will go with some Blue and Turquoise ones I have done. 

I am not done with my pink scraps yet. I will have to show some next week. I have added this to Soscrappy and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017.

I did get some Orange finished up too

Last Blue Saturday

Well we are coming to the end of the blue scraps for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I worked on my blocks for the latest Leaders and Enders challenge issued Bonnie Hunter. I got 28 more blocks done and they are more of a turquoise blue not royal blue. The little Black and White square are great for L/E but not so much the strips. I want to shade them, from light to dark. I sewed a few other things and it is great to have the little bits for L/E around. 

I put them all on the wall together. I like to put the whole months worth of blocks up on the wall at the end of the month. This month these blocks just about fills the wall. I just would not have room to put them all up. I love how 3D this is looking. 

I have posted to Soscrappy. Go and see what others are making with their blue scraps. 

Here again is the left and right block. I am using a few different white light fabrics. I have also used up and cut so many different brands of black scraps. I might have to go look for a few more scraps. I know I have some long strips left from the quilt backing, I am sure there are more to be found. 

While I am off to another Agility trial today with the dog. We are having so much fun. Next week we leave for Nationals. I am getting pretty excited to be going to complete in Nationals. I might not be getting much personal sewing done in the next 2 weeks. 

Slab Quilts Finished

I got the last of the charity quilts done for The Great Canadian Quilt Bee and Ronald McDonald House. I started working on blocks back in January and ended up deciding to make 3 quilts to give away and one for me to keep. I got all 3 charity quilts done. This is the last one.  The quilt for me is close to being done too. 

Here are all three on the fence together. I made the 4 by 6 block size, so the larger size they were looking for. I used Cheryl Arkison's slab blocks as the pattern, Then I also have at least one Canadian fabric in each block. Sometimes there is a extra maple leave fabric too. I had some black, red and teal maple leave fabric to add in. 

Gemma my Lab got to get into the photo too. Yes the sun was crazy bright and hot. 

You can see some of the cute fabrics that got added into this quilt. I did some fuzzy cutting to get the animals just right.
