Happy Valentine's Day

I am making some heart blocks again for a group hug quilt. So far I have 7 pink heart blocks done. 

These finish up to be 6" square. I start by using 2" units. I work hard at mixing up all the different prints of pink I have. Some have a little more orange or purple but it all works. 

Tonight we are having a family dinner at home. I have baked a Blue berry and Raspberry pie for desert. I got Chocolates from my sweet heart. 

Rainbow Top

Rainbow quilt top is finally done. I keep thinking I will get a better outdoor photos but we have a snow mud mix outside (snow today). The quilt is large and takes up all of my design wall. 

Here I was looking at what I could use for a sashing and a boarder. I interviewed nine patches in all the rainbow colours. Kind of OK for sashing but maybe too thick and large. The triangles for a boarder was OK too but the angles just did not do it for me when the blocks were so square. I was liking the fine strip of printed Rainbow fabric. 

I did one rainbow strip set and hung up, Yes piano key boarder was more what I was looking for. 

The blocks are together in this photo and I am double checking the strip sets for the piano keys. 

I looked back and some of the blocks were made back in 2013.

Turquoise Scrap Blocks

I have been working my way through my Turquoise Scrap Box. I take most of a week to sort and cut my many smaller bits of fabric. These blocks have taken me 2 weeks as I did not have many to show last week. 

I have been cutting strips out of the funny sized fabrics. Most are already strip left over from past projects. Some are mangled fat quarters that are need ironing and squaring up. 

Once I have strips I cut squares. This year I am cutting 3", 2 1/2, and 2" squares. They seam to be what I use the most. 

Strips are 3", 2 1/2", 2" and 1 1/2" I had many of the 1 1/2" left over from 2 projects I did this past year. 

My sampler blocks in 10" and in 7 1/2" sizes.

Hexagon flowers. I use the 2" squares and the 3/4" papers for these. 

I worked hard this Saturday morning and got my 6 migrated Geese blocks done just in time to show off. I love these blocks. If I keep making 6 per colour I might end up with enough for 2 quilts. I might be over doing it.

The last of my pink sampler blocks. Can you see the oops? there is kind of 2 oops blocks. I guess I had better fix at least the far left bottom triangle so it matches the other 3 corners. 

Pink Scraps

All kinds of pink was used up this week. I got a good hold on all those pink bits of fabric. 

I love to see the design wall full of one colour of blocks. 

I got three 7" sampler blocks done. I still plan to do the 10" blocks too. I had them laid out ready to sew and they fell on the floor. Maybe next week I can get them done. 

All the 7" sampler blocks together. Again I love seeing so much up on the wall. I did not do small light blue blocks. I might have to fix that but I think I will just wait and see. 

Migrating geese. 

So many pinks. It is a good exercise to work on the shading of one colour. 

Next up was getting some pin wheel blocks done. I have no idea how I will use these, but they are getting done. 

I have more to do next week. Here is the ironing board ready to keep using up the pink scraps.

Also got up early and watch another Royal Wedding, I think it must be at least #5 I got up to watch early. My grand mother and I got up together to watch Princess Diana and Charles.  

Sunny Yellow

I think today was to be our warmest day of the last few 6 months. We did see a bit of sun but we had some wind too. Lots of melting of snow but we still have lots of snow left. Wet and muddy all over. The horses are muddy brown in colour. Brown is kind of the real colour outside this month. 

Yellow and Gold 

Yellow is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2018 of the month. 

I did a ton of sorting and trimming down my yellow scraps. The box is tidy and well sorted. I made all kinds of yellow triangles to use in my sampler blocks and then in pinwheels.

I got my 3 large 10" square sampler blocks done. 

I then started to lay out the smaller block 7"square. I just did not get them sewn today. Maybe early next week. 

Next weekend I have retreat. 

So today I sorted my UFO projects. 

I had trouble finding one I really wanted to take. Well at 5 pm I found it. Good! I can take it. I have a list with at least 6 projects. 4 are packed in there bags ready to go and one is a rainbow scrap challenge quilt I hope to finish the top on the weekend. 

I also have plans for one new project. I still have to sort fabric for it. Maybe I will do some cutting for it this week. 

Scraps Everywhere

I started my scrap busting this week with an over flowing box of mixed up scraps. I had rushed my cleaning back in December and all scrappy bits were dumped in this box. I had added to it a few times, to the point I could not close the lid and parts were falling out. It was getting in the way. 

This week I sorted it all by colour and put each bit in the colour box. I am more ready for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2018 now.

In the scrap box there was a stack of 2 1/2" squares and triangles, in medium to light blue. So in the very last days of January, I used them to make the sampler blocks in the 10" size. You can find out more about it at Sampler 2018 at Soscrappy. There are a few different sizes that could be done. I still might do a smaller size block too. 

The block name for January is Red Cross. I will say I really thought about doing the center in Red. My Grandmother sometimes knitted for the Red Cross. I might go back and make one Red Cross in red. 

 I used some 30 prints to make this one. Most of the lighter blues I have are 30 prints or sky colour. 

I got 3 blocks done before the end of Janaury. Now on to February and the new colour is ....

Purple

I love purple. 

So I got the 4 rows on the left sewn together yesterday. The 4 rows over on the right were done back in December as part of the getting some stray colours done. I am planning to use these strips to make Honey Comb blocks. Now I can cut out the hexagon parts I need for each block. 

Now to go sew more purple scraps into something fun. I think I will check out the new sampler block for February. 

Shoe Box Block Exchange

At the Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild we have been doing a "shoe box exchange". It was to be a "suit case exchange" but a sweet little suit case was hard to come by. We changed it to a shoe box, easier to find a box. I got this box with the Color Play fabric in it. Then the pattern we were to make was all these triangles. The block is called Strength in Union and is a 5 unit grid. All the squares were cut to 3" and finished up to 2 1/2" square. 

Here are all the blocks so far together. I think I would like to win this set of blocks. I like how it is turning out. 

I liked the block enough to make another one. We have also restarted the "pizza box exchange" again. I wanted more blocks from my last pizza box, so I just did one more block and sent my pizza box around again. You can see the other blocks in my post called Pizza Box Wrap UP.

Design Wall Monday Sept 30

Not a lot of change from last week. I got this little 10" block done for the Block of the Month program we are doing at the Leduc quilt guild. We were given the gold fabric and we added the other colours. They are to be a fall theme. I used fabric out of the scrap bins. 

The Jack in the Box blocks on the right are just like last week. I still need a few more blocks.

The left side has the dog and Lex block. I was planning on making a book cover. Maybe I should take it to retreat, later in Oct.

MORE SUMMER

We had a heat wave today. We got to 30 C here. Wow Hot. 

I am going to try and get caught up with what I have done. Last week as the first meeting of the Black Gold Quilt Patch after a summer break. I got a gift from a friend. She thought of me and gave me these cute little dresses. I have a few others and someday I will have to make something cute with them. Maybe a little quilt. 

The Quilt guild program is doing a block of the month this year. I signed up this month and got my fabric and instruction. I am to use fall colours. I will have lots to go with the gold fabric. I just have to use the gold in the correct place. I may have to read and not rely on the visuals.

The Creative Stitches show is tomorrow and I plan to go. I will try and not buy too much fabric. Ha

Tin Box Exchange and Agility

The Black Gold Quilt Patch of Leduc meets tonight. The Tin Box Exchange is due tonight and I got it done without it being very last minute. This box number is 4 and the theme is Winter. The fabric we were to use was the dark blue print on the bottom right of the photo. I think this is my last box but there is one block missing. I think we had someone join this group late and they have not done this box yet. After they are all done we will be drawing for the boxes.

This is the block I did for the box. I found a pattern for a bird in an older Debbie Mum book I had and I changed a few things about it. I wanted to just appliqué one red and then do the hand embroidery to show off the wing, eye and beak. After I added the bird I thought it needed a branch to sit on so cut my block and added the brown stem then added the out row of half square triangles.

Also at the guild meeting tonight is a Fat Quarter exchange. I have gone though my fabric and thought I would take these to exchange (30). I hope other members have some good fabric to trade with me. Some of the fabrics are hand dyed and some are just older stash fabrics. I will have to let you know what I get in exchange.

Yesterday was our first outdoor agility class for the season. I took my camera and got a few photos. Here I have asked Lex to 'Go Tunnel" and that is what he is doing. I am heading to the next jump to direct him over. We have so much fun. Also last night was the beginning of the boys outdoor soccer season, both boys teams lost their first games. I took Lex to sit on the side lines with me. He is one tired puppy today. It was very cold to sit and watch. I got a blanket and mittens and hat out.

Tin Box Exchange Round #5

Tonight is the Leduc Quilt Guild meeting and my block for the tin box exchange is due. I started it at 4 pm today. I am just getting it done in time. Any later and I would have to add $5 to the box.

This box had a theme of Special Occasions  and the fabric has balloons on it. I forgot to take a photo of the fabric. I thought Special Occasions needed a bow. I made my unit 1" and made the block 8 1/2" square. I only had a photo of a bow block and it is made mostly with triangles and squares. So easy peasy, Just silly to do all those little pieces with about 1 hour to do it in.

Here are the group of blocks done so far. There should be five by now but I guess the group is short one person. We may end up only having 5 blocks in our boxes.

I have to be honest,  I almost forgot about the block today. I had to get back to the weekly routine after holidays. Must go to meeting NOW!

Tin Box Exchange Round #4

Tonight is the Black Gold Quilt Patch Meeting (Leduc quilt guild) and my Tin box is due.  I have Box # 6 and it has an Asian theme and this blue print in the box. I have done this block from Bonnie Hunter called Jack in the Box. I made my block 8 1/2" square. I almost did not have a enough tone on tone white to do this. If I keep doing group block exchanges that require white (tone on tone) I will have to buy more fabric (I hear a shopping trip)

Tin Box Exchange Round #3

Tonight is the Black Gold Quilt Patch meeting in Leduc tonight. I almost forgot to do my block exchange for round 3. I got started after 2 pm today, but it is done now. I have the tin box #1 and it is a theme of Spring. The fabric we are to use is the pale light green, I have used it as a background for my tree.

I had my green scraps out and thought a tree would be great for spring. I love it when the leaves come out on the trees. That is spring for me.

These two were in the box already.
