Red String Blocks

The Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2019 is working on your Red scraps this month. My reds are in good shape, sorted, many blocks made last year. But I did not get my Red string blocks done till this Saturday. I got 14 half red blocks done. Some Lime and Purples were done to those are done ready to be trimmed.

Then I had computer trouble. My editing program is not working well. I could not resize my photos. Well today I got it partly done but with a different program. Not really happy with what I used. So I am still in the hunt for a good program that is easy and quick to use.

Here is one block ready for another colour on the other half. There are Chickens and Cherries prints.

More Red is over at Socrappy. So many ideas for scrap quilts. Check it out. This looks to be the last Saturday of Jan so Feb will have a new colour, looks like that might be Yellow.

So it it Monday I will also join the Design Wall Monday over at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Red Scraps

The Design Wall this week

For many years I have followed along with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
This year I will be doing more scrap sewing again.
RSC 2019 here we come!

6 1/2" blocks made with 2" squares

I have done 9 - 16 patches. I had some done but they had one square a different colour. I have decided that I wanted some full red. I have a few colours out of control but red is in good shape. I already had all the red 2" squares cut and ready to go. So easy this week.
Next up in red should be some string blocks.

16 blocks 4 1/2" Pin wheels in Blue

Last year I had trouble with my blue scraps. Way out of control. It took me most of the month just to trim and cut and sort the boxes of blue. So I did not get these sewn together. So this year I need to do some other colours now and then, like Blue and Green.

Also I have to work towards getting tops and quilts done. You might see me working on odd colours or the tops and quilting. I am hopping for more finishing this year. There are some quilt shows to enter. I also only quilted 2 of my own quilts this past year.

These Red blocks are from Canada's 150 Women blocks. My mom, Betty and I are working on the blocks together. I am way behind. Only 25 block of my 75 done. So here are 4 more blocks, 6" square.

Guild Blocks

Four little blocks for the Leduc Guild Shoe box Exchange. I got these done last week just before our monthly meeting. I almost forgot to get them done. Good thing they were pretty simple blocks to do. I think they took my 1 hour. The Shaggy black KFC fabric was to be used and they we were to add one print to the blocks. We started by cutting a 10" square of the 2 fabrics. It then gave us 2 blocks. I used my KFC Fabrics. I got them handed in and took another shoe box to work on.

Also the Leduc guild has been working on these blocks for a raffle quilt. They are taking sometime to do. There is still another step to do. It is a mitered log cabin that you do not do the normal log cabin building. Two red strip sets will be sewn together to make 2 triangles. There was a shortage of red blocks done so I brought home some red, added to the red strings and got 6 done.

One green block done and was used as a demo block at the guild meeting. I did not make this block, not sure who did. But it gives you the idea of what we are doing.

Red Scrap Blocks

Big wall of Red Scrap Blocks. It is close to the end of the month and we are almost done with Red. I still have a few more blocks to do and many scraps to use up.
I love the wall all in blocks.

I got some pinwheels done.

I got some hexagon flowers done.

These are the migrating geese blocks I finished up.

I got a little more done for the Honey Comb quilt done. I had some red blocks done but so of the colours I had 4 or 6 blocks so I figured I could use a few more red ones. Not sure how many blocks I have now. This might be time for the design wall soon.

Red talking turkey blocks (a Bonnie Hunter pattern from String Fling). These blocks take sometime but do they ever use up bits of fabric. There are some blocks just over 2" used and the little triangles then all the strings needed. Lots of fabric used up here.

I had the pink one well started but not done. This week they got done.

Now I have 3 colours of the talking turkey blocks done and they look good together.  I have the yellow blocks started but not done yet.

I have added this to Soscrappy

Red for July

I finally got a few blocks done with my red scraps. July is the colour Red. I find I spend the first half of the month sorting and cutting my scraps. These blocks are called Round the Corner and they are for the Squared Away sampler. This top set of blocks are the 10" blocks.

This is the 7" blocks.

And both sets up on the wall.

There is the whole set of 7" blocks I have done. I could still go back and do Jan in light blue. They look so good together.

Next up is flying geese. I do them for the migrating geese and I have extras for later.

Today I just got started on the Migrating Geese Blocks. So you know what I will be working on this week.

April Fools Scraps Saturday

I did well for a week away from home. I had the apples cut out and a little bit sewn before I left for Victoria. Today I worked on getting them done and the photos for my post. I did not get all my red done.

Today we were to start on our Multi coloured scraps for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017. I decided to get a few prints with a hit of Red and other colours and call that my Multi coloured blocks for today. I love the Green and red apple core block, that fabric is kind of a ugly that I like. Then who would not love the bird fabric.

This is a Red sample block all done by hand, well I was on holidays.  I did it using English paper piecing and then appliqued the to the background.

Lady bug Red sampler block.

Another sampler block
I have added today's scrap challenge post to Soscrappy. Take a look at what the others have done too.

So sometimes I have taken the time to put all the blocks from the month up on the wall all together. I just love to look back at these photos but they take time to put it all up. This month I could not fit it all but most is up there. I am missing some Maple leaves and nine patches, just not enough room.

I got this many Red blocks done this month!
  1. Nine patches - 83
  2. Strawberries - 3
  3. Tulips - 31
  4. Butterflies - 18
  5. Apples - 19
  6. Apples cores - 12
  7. Maple Leaves - 9 plus 6 need ironing - 15
  8. Sampler blocks -3
  9. Lantern block -1
  10. A strip set to add to 2nd Time Around but need to work on that more.

Tonight I am working to get a few more Maple Leaves done. 6 more to iron and maybe a few before midnight.
Then I need to move on to the real bin of multi coloured scraps. I have no idea what I will make. OK a list of a few ideas.
  1. Slab blocks with some Canadian fabric, I need 18 more but some could be different colours
  2. Book cover
  3. Small purse or bag
  4. I have Pineapple log cabins blocks to work on and they have some multi coloured fabrics and use many many colours.
  5. room to think of more.....

Scrap Saturday Red

I got 18 Red Butterflies done this week. I had cut them out of my scraps last week so it was quick to get them done. The pattern for them is out of the book Quilty Fun, so the same book as my tulips. Did you see the finish Tulip Quilt Top?

I have packed up some Red scraps to take with me on my little holiday. I just need to sew sometimes. So I hope to get a small 6" sample block done in this pattern but in all red. White with Red dots will count as red. It can be so hard to get some contract of value in red. Also I have packed more Glorious Hexagons to work on too.

I have added this post to Soscrappy while I am away.

Next up is a wall quilt I started to go with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017. I did a wall quilt I called Around About and then started 2nd Time Around ( I blogged a bit about it already).

So I have added some purple.

Picking out what to do next.

I will move from purple to Red now.

Next up will be the Red, I hope I can get it done as soon as I am home. I have a Red and purple strip set ready to go. I need more red added. Not sure how I can get the red to show better. I might have to dig in the hand dyed scraps to find some close to red, pink or orange.

Spring Time Reds

I worked hard on my Red scrap bin this past week. It took me a long time to get this much done. There is a tiny bit of purple to the right side. You can see I also had to cheat and dig out my green scraps too. How can I make Tulips and Strawberries with out a little green.
Happy St Paddy's Day.

Now, how much do I love this 6" Strawberry block? It is so cute! A face book quilting friend made one in pink. I fell in love. I had to make one for myself  and could not stop at 1 but made 3.

3 Strawberries. I will make some pink ones later when we get the colour pink. Not sure I will make all the blocks in the sampler but maybe just a bunch of the better blocks.

Tulips 6" tall and that splash of green.

I am not sure what I was thinking. I made 31 Red tulips. I cut scraps for 12 then thought that is not enough. then cut more. No still I cut more. Oops I cut for 31 red tulips. I cut lots of green, then I would run out of green and had to cut more. Then I needed more 2" squares of white. Then I would sew, no still need to cut more. Why did I do 31? They were never ending. I have a few purple ones started but ran out of leaves again. Maybe next week.

Love this angle. kind of like a field of red tulips planted in rows. Did you know Canada gets Red tulips from Holland each year as a thank you for liberating them in the war? Someday I might have to go see Ottawa in the spring, like a good Canadian.

A few more Red Maple leaves.

I got 7 more done so a total of 9 so far. I need more. I hope to give 20 to my friend and keep some for myself.

I have added this post to Soscrappy's Happy Scrappy Saturday, check out all the other great Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts going on this year.

So the tulip pattern is from Quilty Fun and I have been working on blocks in this book for a few years. I am not sure how many quilts I will make. I am sure I will get 3 or 4 quilts. The Strawberries came from the Farm Girl Vintage. I picked up this book this week. I feel a new quilt coming on. Opps another new start, or 2.

I also want to review my list of Red

Maple leaves. You are going to see more of these, 2 so far. I have a friend who has asked me to help her make more. I would also like to keep some for myself too.

More red in the works. How can it be week 2 of red already? I have so much to do.

I have add this post to Soscrappy

I am busy at agility this weekend, Friday was an all day workshop and Saturday and Sunday is a trial. No sewing till Monday night.
