Scraps in Spring

I have been working on hexagons all winter long. I have plans to make a bag. I am close to having the 2 halves done. I will have to layer and quilt, so still lots to do. 

I have gone to Quilt Canada in Vancouver BC this week. I packed a few more to baste and sew while I am away. I have a quilt in the National Juried show so I have to go check it out in person. 

A big step on the string scrap quilt got done this week. I made my map of colours. I also have key as to how many blocks of the colours I need. So now it will be quicker to get to the sewing. 

The yellow strings got done. Now with the key I can match up the other colour too. 

I am a little behind. Yes, still on April's Yellow. I have so much more pink for May still to do. Now for June we are going Teal/Turquoise , love that colour and I have a lot of scraps in it. 

I also did some 6" poverty piecing blocks too. I was close to getting some pink ones done but they are not ironed and ready for photos yet. Next week.

Lime Green for Spring

2 weeks ago I had made this green background. I worked on making Hexagon flowers to go on it and got them appliqued in place. The plan is to make a bag. In this photo, they are only pinned in place. 

I have been unable to make a blog post for a while. My computer broke. I have gotten a new one. I think I finally have all that I need now to do my normal computer work. I did not have email. I had my phone and could go to facebook but I do not use it to do web stuff as I have a laptop. What a pain.

Friday after working, I got the machine quilting done. I did tiny leaves all over the green and also quilted the flowers in matching thread. 

Here are all 3 pieces. The top 2 for the bag and the large bottom one for a book cover. I still have the finishing to do still. But my new fabric is ready for the projects. 

I trimmed up my 2 piles of triangles. I need them for my sampler blocks. 

Here is a tray of more cut units for blocks I have planned. 

I got 1 sampler blocks done today. It is the smaller 7 1/2" blocks. I still plan to make more 7 1/2" and 3 in the 10" size. My units are done and ready to sew.

Grandmother's Garden Hexagons

For a couple of years now I have been slowly working on my pink Hexagon quilt. I am using 

Kona Bubble Gum pink as my background fabric. I had kind of stopped working on it and now and then I would dig it out but not get much done. Well the other day I figured out why?

I ran out of Pink Bubble Gum hexagons. I needed to find more of the pink fabric. I did not have enough pink hexagons to do the edges so I was struck. I did not want to start putting together the long row with out more on the ends. So it was a Design Day.

So at one end this is all I had figured out. But I know this was not how the edge would be. 

So after preparing more pink hexagons I could lay out this as an end. I think this is how the end of the rows will look. Or maybe one more row? At least I can do more now. I still need more pink hexagons. 

 And the other end of the rows. I have so much more to do and so many more hexagons to prepare. So I am not yet sewing the rows together but I am back at getting some work on it again.

Here is a photo form 2014, when I was think about what fabric to use for leaves. I had planned to use many different greens. But I did not like it. So I picked out this one lime green hanging on the back. You can see a few other greens to the right side. It was too busy. 

Yes all the fabric is Kaffe Fassett collection except for the bubble gum pink Kona. Well off to do more pink.

Glorious Hexagons

I keep a few hand stitching projects on the go. I started doing some Hexagons from The New Hexagon book back in Nov 2015, after hearing Katja speak. I did lots last winter and not so many this year. But I keep working on a few. Here is the latest set of Hexagons. 

Block #25 Marjorie, one of my favorite blocks to do. With the 6 repeats, they spin. 

This block is #11 Susan. I love these ones, also with the 6 repeats. 

#7 Maureen. The more solid blue is one of my hand dyed fabrics. All the other fabrics are from the Kaffe Fassett Collection. 

# 8 Marena. The pencil fabric is fun for this block. 

Block #1 Marie, I love to fussy cut the flowers for this block. 

#23 Dawn, love to fuzzy cut the flowers in the center.

Glorious Hexagons

I am behind in showing off my Glorious Hexagons, Yes I keep working on them.  This has been a sew a long on the internet, but I just did the blocks I wanted to do when I wanted to do them. I by no means kept up and maybe I have done 1/4 of the number of blocks. 

#13 Judy,  love doing this block as it stats out just like the grandmother's flower garden and then to get it back to 6 sides you add the little diamonds on the out edge.

Feathers into Hexagons

More 3" hexagons done and ready to show off. I have used the KFC Feather fabric and stacked 6 repeats and then cut out the feather fabric. 

All the patterns for these block come from The New Hexagon Book.

 This block has so much movement. The green mini triangle and the center hexagon are some of my hand dyed fabric.

Pansy Hexagons

I am still working on my New Hexagons. All the patterns for these 3" hexagons are in The New Hexagon Book. All 6 of these blocks were made by stacking 6 repeats of the fabric and then cutting out the units I needed. I love doing this.

#14 Willa it is the first of the Willa blocks I have done. Look at how tiny the little triangles are.

Here is the orange pansy fabric together with the hexagons. I will have to do some more soon.

Feather Fabric Repeats

Many more Hexagons are getting done. Today I show you the latest 6 blocks I have made using Kaffe Fassett collection Feather fabric. 

If you are new to the Hexagons I am doing. The Book is called The New Hexagon and then there is a group on Facebook doing a quilt a long called Glosious Hexagons so many of us are using the Kaffe Fasset Collection of fabrics. 

Block #35 Sharon This block uses all 1 1/2" diamonds. So far I love the Sharon pattern and I know I will be doing more of this block.

#25 Marjorie, I am so pleased with how this one has turned out. I love how it spins.  

#35 Sharon, The light blue diamonds were from the Feather fabric and the dark blue is Begonia Leaves
