Blocks for Star Struck

I got all the blocks done for my Star struck lime green quilt. It was a pattern I found on Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville web site. It is boxing day and Design wall Monday over at Patchwork Times. I think I am going to use the Blue fabric for a 4 inch boarder. I was thinking of using the extra little triangle in pin wheels and do all the extra piecing for the boarder and make it in lime green but now I like the calming of the blue. What do you think?

I hope to make a post about my orca bay mystery quilt soon. I have my white star blocks done but I still have not got one black block done. Maybe on on Tuesday.

  1. Hmm... have you considered a smaller blue border, then the small pinwheels, another blue border and then lime green? Judy L. has a good post on how to calculate border sizes so that the pieced blocks work out.

If you feel that it needs to "calm" down a bit, have you considered a thin sashing? You could even put in the small pinwheels as cornerstones. If you have a design program like EQ7 it sometimes helps to test out options there.

I see a stronger purple/dark blue star and less of a strong green star. It might be the light blue fabric that's throwing me. But it could also be the photo with the light throwing off the contrast.

    Hope this helps - Liz

  4. I love your quilt...I'm very partial to lime green! Reminds me of wild flowers in a meadow.

  5. I love the lime green! At first I started to say I wasn't sure about the blue. But then I thought the blue border would make the blues in the blocks pop.

  6. this is beautiful! I think I like the blue border too...but the green! Decisions! The pieced border would be too much tho, IMHO.

  8. I agree with what Liz said, and would add that a blue border might take more spark out of the quilt than you'd like -- i.e., calm it down too much -- but a narrow blue inner border might give your eye just enough of a break to go back to green and pinwheels in a wider outer border.

    Just a thought.

  10. This is amazing love your fabric selections! You are right I do like that blue as a boarder. but I also love the first suggestion to bring those pinwheels back out, nothing like a little work.
