Blue Log Spirals

This week I got started on some log cabin spirals. I had to use both light and dark but I am making a big dent in the light fabrics. I still have so many dark blues. I was not sure how many blocks to do. 16 started so far. Not sure I will do all colours in this block. Maybe just a two colour quilt? not sure where it is going yet. It is just nice to sit and sew strips. I am using 1 1/2" strips.

Look at how many different blues end up in the block so far.

I have added this post to Soscrappy who hosts the Rainbow Scrap Challenge each Saturday.

This is the block that inspired me. I got this block in the my pizza box exchange. One of my old school friends has joined the guild and is quilting too now. She made this block for me. And I just love the block.

Look at these scraps. I was told about a local estate sale of fabric. I meet the gentlemen selling his wife's fabric. So sad to go and see fabric loved but not used. Well I bought some fabric and asked to take the scrap box he had. In the scrap box was a careful stack of shot cotton, all labeled with the name of the colour. Oh what a little gem of fabric. Each one has the name I had no idea there were so many shot cottons solids.

I bought yardage, mostly half yards some smaller. I think these would make some great kids quilts. I might also use some in my Vintage Farm girl quilt.

Shot cotton yardage I bought. The fabric was not washed and I know I will be washing those reds. They are bleeders for sure. All of the Shot cotton yardage has labels also. She had a very tidy stash.

I am out at another dog trial today. My friend has asked me to come help her with her 3 dogs and would like me to run one of them.  My Gemma still has a broken nail, maybe by the end of February we can play.

Christmas Dog Exchnge

I signed up for dog agility Christmas gift exchange way back in Sept of this year. I got my victim preference page in early Oct. So I had close to 2
months to shop or make something for her and her dog. This is what I sent her, She just got her package on Monday.

I ordered a custom leash with her dogs name on it. It came from 4 My Merles. I had a little help picking out the fuzzy one. It is a leash but some dogs will also tug a bit with a leash like this.

The best custom gift was this little wall hanging. It is a 12 by 12 canvas photo of her dog and then I finished it like a quilt and put a hanging sleeve on the back. I also got a dog tag with this photo on it too. So she can carry Moses with her.

This is the original photo of Moses I used. I took it off her Facebook page. Then I used Dream Scope App to make the photo more artsy. I think it was Clashing setting that I used.

Here is the image the app made. I then uploaded this image to the Art Cow and ordered the 12 by 12 un-mounted canvas. The framed one would be nice but I did not want to pay for too much shipping. I still needed to ship it to my victim.

I used this photo that Bev took this Sept for me.

And I got a canvas of Gemma like this. I am not so sure of this one. It looks good far away. I have thought I could add it in to a wall quilt and add the works. Run like no one is watching. She is so silly. I will have to show you what I got from my other partner, another day.

Saturday Scrap Sewing

Orange is the September Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for the month. I had sometime today to sew and watch TV. I watched Spruce Meadows Show Jumping, wishing I was there.
I got 6 sampler blocks done. They measure 6 1/2". As we had snow earlier this week it is feeling like fall, so I had to make a leaf block. I happen to quickly find a pattern to follow in my Farmer's Wife Book. So the next 2 and the center bottom one was also from the book. I did a simple 9 patch and the the star made with the triangles on the outside. Wow sounds nice and quick but, it always takes more time with the scraps.

Here is the box of scraps I was working with today. Kind of sorted.
I have added today's post to Soscrappy for more Orange ideas go see.

Friday and Saturday was the Creative Stitches show in Sherwood Park/ Edmonton. I made it again this year, Friday. I did some packet book damage. I bought a few more Kaffe Fassett fabrics again. I was worried about not have enough different colours for my Dear Jane. I was pleased to find 4 very good Oranges and some more Blues, that I did not have before. Some are Fat quarters and some are half meters.  I also got 2 books and a few jewelry findings.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day. Not sure I will see my dad today. He is fishing, I might call him. Me and the kids have a few things planned for their dad.

I got to see the Wetaskiwin Quilt Show this past week with mom and a few quilt friends. We had lunch out and took a look in one of the better clothes stores too. I picked up a few fat quarters at the quilt show. I love the bright pink and brown dots, well I like them all.

This is one of the quilts from the show. I think it says it was a group quilt. It was for one of there charity groups. Love the strings.

I also got some good mail this week. I had ordered some Kaffe Fassett fabric on sale and it is here. The Green and purple on the far left maybe a backing some day. I think I have enough if I do not cut it up too much.

Thanks you all for the great comments about my slump year on yesterdays post.

Gifts from good Friends

I am away for a workshop. I have not taken many photos yet. But I may try to get some Sunday so I can show them. In the meantime I have this to show you.
I have two good friends that are Canadian snow birds for the winter and they travel south. This year I asked them to buy me some bright fabrics or any thing with dots for me.  Wow I got these great treasures. On the far Right is a wooden printing stamp. Love it. Then the purple Australian fabric in the middle. They got me 2 yds, not sure how I will use it but I love it. The then the dots that are gold and white and all kinds of stuff. The red has little horse shoes and will be perfect to put with my horse fabric collections for that some day quilt.

Aren't quilt buddies fun?

September Shopping

I have done a little bit of fabric shopping this past month. I love these stacks of fabrics. A few batiks, some dark chocolate prints, the pink and turquoise. I also bought a new pattern. I do not buy many patterns but it is so Canadian, I had too.
More machine quilting planned for the week. Maybe I get to cut into some of these and do some of my own patchwork.

Red Scrap Saturday

I have been camping this week. It rained all one day, so I sewed by hand. I got started on my Red Hexagon flowers. I got a few crazy red prints.

I got a few more Blue Turquoise flowers done last month but forgot to show them off.

I also had some Yellow ones I got done last month. Here is about 6 weeks of Hexie flowers all together.

I have been sorting my red. I got a few spool blocks done.

I have linked up with Soscrappy.

So when travelling we had to go to a few quilt shops too. We made a stop in Windfield, were I got the light dots, pink and dark blue dots. I got the Red and light blue dots in Rockymountain House at the shop in town. I have plans to use the light dots (2m) for some Rainbow scrap challenge project next year. We will have to start looking for more to do.

WIP Wednesday Oct 17

I got a table runner top done last weekend at retreat, but need to quilt it now. I need a few runners this year as gifts. So I will not say who or what it is for yet. The black print with gold is an old Rose and Hubble Print from 15 or so years ago. I had been saving it. It was time to use it. I like that is is kind of Christmas but could be used any time of the year.

I did work on Adam's Plaid spider web quilt but not much more to show. I got most of the strip sets done and about half the cutting. It may make it up on the wall in few weeks.

On the way to retreat, mom and I stopped at a few quilt shops. I did some shopping. I love the Brown and Orange dots. The top left are mostly Christmas prints for more runners.

At retreat we also had goody's at our table each morning. First the pen, then the Best Press and on the last morning it was a batik fat Quarter.  Thanks Arley.

I have added today's post to Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday, go see what other's are working on this week.

New Quilt Books

I ordered a few books and they have arrived. I got the Gee's Bend book without seeing it before and I am please to say I love it. Lots of eye candy.

I also got these two. I may not have needed them but I will have fun trying a few things out of each. I am not sure of the Free Form book, some of the pieces are a little busy looking, but maybe it is because the other two books have so many solid fabrics and this uses more prints.

I was in the garage cleaning out the van of dog stuff. Mr Lex got a hold of three of his dog toys. I thought he was so cute to hold all three toys at one time. He was not going to let them fail out.

My boys cleaned my van for me. Vacuumed and washed out inside. So nice to have a clean van.

I have been very busy long arm quilting and hope to show you one or two quilts soon. Not much of my sewing going on here. Maybe some blue later today.

Rainbow Baby Steps Kit

The Set up for the Edmonton and District Quilt Show is later today More Information on the poster. It is all day Saturday and Sunday this weekend.  I have dyed cloth and made this baby quilt into kits to sell. Every thing you need is in the kit but backing and batting and thread. I have the 12 colours of dyed cloth and a large piece for binding and then the White and the pattern to follow. It is all Kona Cotton used in the kits. My friends in my bee group loved the idea and encourager me to do the kit. My Mom has been a great help. She ironed all the fabric and helped edit my pattern.

A close up view of the quilting I did on my sample.

Below is the stacks of cloth cut and read to go into the kits. Now to just get them all priced and folded in the bags.

Hope to see you all at the quilt show (at least you local ladies). I will get some photos at the quilt show to you all next week.

Quilt Show this weekend

The Edmonton and District Quilt Guild is having a Quilt show this weekend. To view the poster with all the information Please check This Out  I have a booth to promote my long arm machine quilting and to sell some hand dyed fabrics. I have been very busy making up kits and dyeing and washing and cutting and sorting and pricing and packing. You get the idea.

Here are two of the mixed fibre kits I have made for sale. They have a Fat Quarter of quilting cotton, some cheese cloth, some shear cotton, a vintage dolly, a vintage napkin or hankie, a roving of wool, 5 silk cocoons and then the fall kit has a silk hankie and the bright kit has a extra dolly as I ran out of silk hankies to dye. Some of the kits do have a little variation. I know some have a strip of lace or other wool or extra dollies. That is part of what makes them fun. I am pleased with all the colours I got done. Some in Blue that are kind of winter like, Fall (like below), Spring, Neutrals, Jewel bright (like above), pink and green, and all green and a few others. At the last booth I did, I sold out of these in the first day. I am taking more this time.

Local Scrap Book Store Sale

I did some shopping this week. My local store had a sale before they go to CHA 2011. All 30% off. Got black glossy paper, brown lace, Red roses, die cut alphabet set, fabric images, tissue tape, paper, mini misters, Tim's seasonal stickers, and two stamp sets.

I love this stamp set. I have plans for some Sea pages and mini books. My grandfather was a fish boat captain as a young man, from Newfoundland.
