Design Wall Monday

I have been working my way though my scraps by following along with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013. I was not planning on doing every colour for this block but just the primaries and secondary colours. So we have done those six colours now. I am a little behind and need more Red blocks and maybe just one or two other blocks to fill in all the wholes. I have added this post to Judy's Design Wall Monday.

The Block is Jack in the box. I found it in Bonnie Hunter's Addicted to scraps . I just needed some triangles to get this block done, it is 8" square. I am thinking it will be a great baby quilt for some special kid.

Last week I was at a special evening sale at Quilter's Dream and entered the draw. I won one of the prizes sponsored by Pfaff. Eight great rayon threads. We will have to see how I use them. My kids think I am lucky because I win these draws but they have no idea how many of these draws and raffle tickets I buy. Maybe I am a little lucky.

Sunday Stiching

I have the very long term project. I started the first block back in June of 2010 when I was at Quilt Canada in Calgary (correction on the place). I have it stuffed in a Purdy`s Chocolate bag to take with me. I do not work on it very often. With summer days and visiting friends and family I have been working on it again. With the Olympics  on I might get working on this again at home.

Another Kathy has a Slow Sunday Linky Party that I have added this post to. Here is a close up of the stitches I am doing. All the fabric and thread is hand dyed by me.

This is a block in progress. I piece the stem by machine and then arrange the leaves and pin then in place. Then it is ready to take along for the hand stitching.

This is the book I got the leaves from. I had to get this book by Piece of Cake Designs. My mom and I love their books and have most of them. We have done two of their patterns as mother and daughter quilts.

Here is the thread I dye. I have been selling it at the quilt shows and to my friends. I sometimes think of setting up an on line store but it sound like work.

Purple Scrap Blocks

The last few days have been crazy busy, so I did not get my purple scrap posted on Saturday for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012 but here they are Sunday. I love this little 6" block. It is part of my Forester's Wife blocks.

I found these blocks on Randy's Blog last month. I am way behind and I am not doing them in any order.  I work on the blocks I want to do or what fits with the scraps I have.

I had I nice sized piece of the pinkish purple and used all one purple but now I do not like it. The blocks with more variation are better looking.

Here is the fourth one for the week. I love this funny strip fabric and this is getting to be some of the last of it.  The background fabric is a long sleeved shirt I got at the Good Will store. It is the lightest pink colour.

I did a big thread order this past week. I just love this thread. I have no troubles in any of my machines with it. The long arm loves it and at least three of my domestics machines love the thread too. It is Wonderfil cotton thread. Now to just machine quilt lots this month so I can pay for the thread order.

Yesterday was another Dog Agility Trial. Lex and I had some good runs but did not pass any of our runs. One class the course was very tough and no one passed it. |We had the best time and only 10 faults. Another run we had a rail and were 10 sec under the time, so we are speedy enough.

New Thread

I have to show you all my new thread. The mail strike is over in Canada and my new thread order has come home. I have 30 new cones of Wonderfil  cotton thread and a new thread stand.

Thread dyed

Here is my ten newly dyed threads drying. I have now started to wined up the thread so that I can sell it. I love these photos with all this colour. I will be keeping some for myself. I dye one or two skeins for myself of each colour.
All of the thread is washed by hand so that the thread does not tangle. I like to have it soak in fresh water over night to be sure I have all the extra dye removed. If the water is coloured in the morning, I risen it out more before dying.
Silly me. After the thread was wound up into skeins, it is placed on a shower curtain ring and hung on the display tree. I placed one set on my head and my son took a photo (sorry it is dark, his finger was over part of the flash). I think it looks like hair ringlets. You must think I am nuts first snow dyeing and now this. Ha Ha good to laugh at our self's sometimes.
Here is the thread I had done before, all hung on my display trees. The new thread will double what I have here and the thread trees will be twice as bushy. I still have lots of wining to do this week.

Dyed Thread, some fabric

Here is the eight colour ways of thread that I have dyed this week. I have a few sales coming were I can sell my thread and fabric. I took longer showing photos because I started to wash it out and decided to a few times rinse and soak it over night. Today was warm and sunny and a little breezy so the thread dried in about 3 hours outside. In the winter, inside, it takes three days to dry. I can start to wind the thread into skeins and prepare them for the sale. Someday I may have to do a Etsy site.
Here is only some of the fabric that I dyed.
These two pieces of fabric are fat quarters (20"x20") that have been wrapped on a rope and dyed each in one dye bath. I took the photos and then re-wrapped the fabric again on the ropes and in another dye bath. They are still soaking and I need to wash them out tomorrow. They look good now but wait, they get better as I do more to them. Lets hope I get a good result now that I said that.
