Orange Scraps

Here are the Squared Away sampler blocks for the Month of August and the scrap colour Orange. I like how they turned out. Each one looks a little different. On top is the 7 1/2" blocks and the bottom row is the 10" blocks.

Next up are the migrating geese blocks. They look kind of off tilled. I do a odd angle when I took the photo and then tried to fix it with editing. Just looks bad. Trust me they look good in person.

See already better looking.

I have added this post to Soscrappy and her link up party.
The next colour up is Dark Blue, so I just this weekend I will start a chopping and sorting out my Blues.

I now have 16 blocks for a hug quilt. It is a group project and I need to get them in the mail this week. I hope it will tell someone that we care.

Last week we got back from our mountain holiday. My husband took this photo of me. We have climbed on of the higher mountains in the area. You can see we are just above the tree line. There was some light smoke from fires in the area so the other mountains are not real clear. This was about 500 meter above were our camp was. So yes we climbed 500 meters that day. I do not like heights and this was not pleasant for me. I can say I did it but I do not want to do it again. Our dear horses worked so hard. Thank you Jester!

Horse Camp 2012

I just got back from Horse Camp last night. We have tons of unpacking still to do. We (the family) packed up the horses and the camper and head to the mountains to do some serious trail riding. Lex our Chesapeake Bay Retriever also comes with us to camp and trail ride for a week.

This was one of our highest climbs. We are more than 400 m above the level of our camp up here. We had a seven hour ride this day. We rode up the Hummingbird trail and down the Canary Creek trail.

This was part of the way down, though the valley towards Canary Creek. The view is beautiful here.

This is the Hummingbird Creek were there is the cutest little step falls. I have been here one other time and have the photo on my face book profile.

The dog and the kid were sleepy.

The horses were sleepy too.

I sure hope we can camp again next year. It is so much fun.

Wild Tree Blossoms

We have a bush trail that we making for trail riding though. It is really a wildlife trail that we are opening up enough to ride though. My husband found this great blossoming tree just off the path. We are not sure if it a wild crab apple or what. I did not think it was cherry or it would have some pinks.

 Close up of the blossoms

This is the bush trail. We have many dead trees that keep falling on the path, so my husband the forester gets out the chainsaw. It is taking more work then I think he thought it would, to keep the trail open.

Lex running in the hay field. We need more rain this week. I was surprised how dry the grass was feeling.

Blackfoot Trail Riding

Honey checking out Adam putting his lunch away.

This past week the family and our horses got to go for a day long trail ride. We loaded the horses and drove to the Blackfoot Grazing reserve. We try to make it out there at least once a year.

My horse Jester is wanting his share of the root beer. He has to check it all out.

Wyatt was riding Scotty this trip and Scotty thought he would like more than grass for lunch, but it is gone. Scotty likes to steal the apples, bag and all.

Faces looking out. Jester, Socks, Scotty and Honey at the end.

Here is Brad and his horse Socks. We got him last fall and he is working out great.

No photos of me yet. I have to get Brad's camera and down load the photos. Also take note all our photos were not when we were riding. I just find there is to much riding to have my camera out.

Horse Creek Ranch

Brad and Socks

Horse camp this year was at Horse Creek Ranch. We loaded up four of our seven horses and went camping at the ranch. The ranch is next to the Fort Assiniboine Sand Hill Wild Land Park and has great trails. There are five riders in the family. Me, Brad, two kids and my Dad. We took turns riding and one rider stayed at camp with my mom.

Wyatt on Scotty then Adam on Honey and me on Tonto (dad's horse)
This was a look out point not to far into the park. We could see the Athabasca River from here. I hear tonight many parts of the river are now at rick of flooding because of all the rain this weekend and it was high to start. We did come home one day early from our trip because it was raining so hard on Friday.

Honey the horse. She is so sweet.
Adam was getting along real well with Honey. He has not ridden her much until this trip.

Wyatt and Scotty were paired up for part of the week. Honey is Wyatt's horse but we moved him up to Scotty when his younger brother came on the trail.

Winter Trail Ride

We got out riding over the Christmas holidays. Here is my horse Jester and me. We are out on the edge of the little lake that is next to our property. We crossed the lake and rode on the neighbors hills, Sunny`s place, another quilter. We also took the dog with us. We got out riding four different days this holiday season. Hope we can get in a few more winter rides. I am sporting my new riding coat and my new half chaps that were my missing Christmas present, lost in the mail. I also have a new hat cover that covers my neck and ears. Great winter rides.

Winter Trail Ride

I did not get this posted very quickly, it was taken just the weekend before Christmas. The weather was warm and it was snowing with no wind. The world seemed so claim and quiet with the snow falling. My son is on the left on his horse Honey, then me in the middle and my dad to the right. My husband took the photo so is not in it. I love the snow on our heads. We really did get a bit wet that day. We have had a good amount of snow and lots of drifting. We had to push the horses though some snow that was up to their bellies in places. It was so much fun. The horses enjoyed getting out of the smaller winter corals.
Here is my husband and my son. See how much snow has fallen on us. This is a path though the thicker evergreens. What a beautiful little path.

My husband and I have been out riding a few more times this winter.

Trail Ride in the Rockies part 1

Here is me and my Dad on our horses. I just got back from a week of riding in the mountains. This trail is the Canary river trail. We rode around the back side of this mountain up to Paradise Valley.
Here is Lunch stop at the east end of Paradise Valley. We are just in a ways from the look out of the South Ram River. The view there looks out towards Banff National Park. This is my horse Jester, he is a Paint gelding with a Thoroughbred mother.
My riding partners on this trip were Jim on the left then his daughter Jessica. Next is Toby and Tim, with my dad in the back. Tim and Toby just happen to be ride the same week and I know Tim's mother very well - Marge a Quilting buddy. This is our third day, we rode up the Hummingbird creek and back down for about four or five hours.
Here is Toby, Tim, Jester and Me. This is the morning I was leaving. My dad and Jim and my uncle will be staying to ride for a few more days.
My husband and kids came on this trip to camp and hike. I will have to show some photos of them in a day or two.

Blackfoot Ride

We took the horses to the Blackfoot grazing reserve, just east of Edmonton yesterday. It was great fun. This photo is from a trip last year, I did not take my camera this year. But hear is a photo of me and my horse. Note the big smile on my face, it was there all day. My Dad and Son and a friend Jim went. About half way we had a heard of about 12 bison stampede on the other side of a 8 foot fence(and a few bushes). Talk about a very big scare. We all stayed on but it was not pretty. The Bison were in Elk Island Park and we were riding the north trail next to them called Blackfoot. I promise to have more horses next week.
