Scraps, some yellow

I am teaching today. Scrappy Play Time. I had my bounce ball quilt as the main project but I also had this Friendship Star block as another option to do. Well I got to work on making three blocks into a table runner. Here is a start.

Sorry my scraps are not yellow this week, but my students needed to see this done and how it went together.

Check out what others are doing with their Yellow scraps this week. Soscrappy has a great link up going on.

I had done this Christmas runner a few years ago, on the right. And I knew it would be quick to do the same layout but using the Friendship Star blocks. So here it is done just a bit before bed time.
My class students will be getting notes on how I made this runner.
It still needs quilting and binding but it feels good to have another top done.

My good friend Nadine did a yellow friendship star block this week. She is having fun working on her scraps too. She has asked me to post her block.

Nadine also got this large quilt top done. I did a class a few years ago on Many Trips Around the World. Nadine took the class and has now done a few Many Trip quilts. I love that it got done on the month we were working on our yellow. She has all kinds of old scrap fabrics. She says some of the fabrics were from panels and change a bit as you cut down the strip.

Great Finish Nadine!

Cherry Quilt and quilts for sale

I am slowly making some progress on the little cherry quilt. The little blocks get the triangles added in the corner and then I can work on the sashing between the blocks. I plan to use this as a table runner.

Tin Box Exchange

The program committee at the Black Gold Quilt Patch (Leduc guild) did a Tin Box Exchange a few years ago. I did one set, we had 2 groups at the same time. After all the boxes were done with 6 blocks we drew names to see who won each of the boxes. I won the Spring box. I am kind of thinking it might be nice to get a table runner done in time for spring. I did the Tree block. I have a top done now. We will see if I can get it quilted and bound before Easter.

Christmas Gifts Finished

I got this done on Christmas morning just in time to leave for a family dinner and gift opening. It is a table runner I made for my mother in law. I used a block from a book from Laundry Basket Quilts called Friendship Strips and Scraps. There is a wall quilt in the book that uses five of these blocks, I just knew it would be cute as a runner. I am very pleased with it.

Here is a detail of the machine quilting I did on it. Most of the fabric I used is batiks.

I had bought this hand made bowl at a craft fair in November and picked out the fabrics to go with the bowl. I had pulled my mother in laws name for Christmas this year and I think she was very happy with her gift.

I have added this post to Crazy mom quilts,

I tried something new this year. I made candied orange and lemon rinds. They were a hit. I just love them. Sweet yet bitter at the same time.

Sorry I have not posted much this month. My camera went smashy smashy about two weeks ago. I did buy myself a new one. I have not done much of my own sewing this month. I quilted for customers like crazy, sometimes late into the night and I had a few dog trials on the weekends. I am going to start step 6 of Bonnie Hunter's Easy Street mystery tomorrow. I think I am cough up on it.

Easy Street Started

I have started Bonnie Hunter's Easy Street Mystery quilt. I did Orca Bay last year but it is not finished yet. I hope to work on Easy Street and finish my Orca bay over the next year. These are the four patches using 2" strips of fabric. I love these little squares. I believe I got 200 done, a few extras in case I lose some.

I have linked up to Bonnie's Easy Street Linky Page and Patchwork Times Design Wall Monday.

I also have my second table runner top done. The top one is not quilted yet. But I can give the finished one away this weekend at the dog trial and know I can keep the other one. I am very very close to running out of the green. I believe I have enough to finish the binding for the second one then that will be it for the green.

Talking about dog Trials, I thought I would go to Regionals for the Agility Associations of Canada (AAC) this June 2013. While I planned to go but the good news is it will be close to home. Yes! Then I found out Nationals will be in Leduc (Aug 1-4,2013) my town, on the soccer fields were my boys play soccer. I want to qualify now for Nationals. If I do not make it I will  help and watch good dogs. But I never dreamed of going to Nationals, thought it would be out east this year. I can hardly believe I have a small chance of going to Nationals. I just started competing last year.

Design Wall Monday Nov 19th

I got started on a another table runner for Christmas. I am making a another one with my cardinal fabric. I want to keep one for me. My husband and I are host Christmas Eve dinner with my parents so there will be six of us that night. We have never done dinner at Christmas, just Christmas morning breakfast. I have some plans of digging out the good china and do some extra cleaning. I am not sure what we will do for dinner but it will not be turkey. I can not eat turkey and everyone else does turkey, maybe a Ham.

Here is the finished on on the bottom. I am making it the same. I still have to dig out my green fabric. I hope I have enough green, it is going to be close.

Runner #2 done

I finished the second runner for Christmas. I will be giving this one away in early Dec, so I am glad it is done already. It looks good on the oak table.

Close up of the star block. I love this black and gold print. I have been saving it for a while.

Here is the quilting on the back side. I am using white Kona on the back side.

I have added today's post to Friday's Favs Party, and Find a Friend Friday and Crazy Mom Quilts and Can I get a Whoop Whoop and Richard Quilts LAFF #40

I am doing binding on the scrappy log cabin quilt, yes it is quilted. I hope to show you another finished quilt by next week.

Christmas Cardinal Runner

I worked hard last night and got the binding done on my runner last night. I have 3 or 4 runners I need for Christmas this year, most as gifts. I love this one so far. I may keep it for myself and make a second one to give a way. Doesn't look good on my table?

I fussy cut the cardinal fabric to fit in the star center. I think this cardinal fabric is a Northcott form last years line. I still like it.

Close up of the quilting.

The quilting shows off well with a white backing. I love the little holly that I did.

WIP Wednesday Oct 31

I have been working on my Scrappy Log Cabins for Ellison Lane Quilt a Long. I finally have all my blocks done. I rescued  the red from the vacuum canister (it is the top right one). In the next few days I hope to sew the blocks together to make my top.

Some of my blocks have cute little critters in the center. Lots of scraps used up.

I also have my two Christmas table runners to finish up. They got machine quilted on Sunday but then I set them aside to quilt for customers on Monday morning. Maybe I can get them trimmed before I have to go Trick or Treating. I am taking my son out tonight for his last Halloween candy haul.

Lex found a stick to play with. It came out of the fire box. It is cool here and I hope we have a fire some time soon.

Finish it up Friday

I got a second Table Runner top done. This one is very Christmas. There are red cardinals in the center of the star and the set in Triangles. The cardinals are from a Northcott line of fabric that was from last Christmas. I really liked it.

The center Blue Runner was done by Barb and the other two are mine. Barb got her's machine quilted and bound but mine are only tops at this point. I still need two more runners I think for gifts this year.

I have added today's post to Crazy Mom's Finish it up Firday and Friday Fav at Naptime Crafters and Confessions of a Fabric Addict and Can I Get a Whoop Whoop

Jack-O-Lantern Runner and Mats Finished

I have finished my pumpkins but made them Jack-O-Lanterns. My kids thought they should have faces. I kind of thought they were cute before I put on the faces. They will be ready for using this weekend for Canadian Thanksgivings.

When I started this last Saturday, I made six pumpkins, thinking I would make 6 mats. Then I thought maybe a runner would be nice too. We are a family of four, so four mats and one runner. The runner is totally done.

This mat is totally done. The other three mats still need binding. I will finish the other three tonight. If you want to know more about the piecing and how I did it please check my post Wednesday Pumpkin Mats How To. And  big thanks you to Vicky Welsh at Field Trips in Fiber, She has put a link in her newsletter to the tutorial.

I sewed the binding on with a zigzag stitch. I was not going to hand stitch and I am really rotten at the normal machine stitch the binding back. I have trouble getting the back caught. I think my problem is my bindings are tight, even to hand stitch ( mom complains about mine when I get her to hand stitch the bindings).

I machine quilting in many many spider webs into the background. The black faces are stitched with a ruff edge applique.

I have added today's post to Crazy Mom's Finish it up Fridays and Felicity Quilt's Friday Felicities Thanksgiving Edition and Naptime Crafter's Friday Favs Party 83 and Magic Onion's Friday's Nature's Table and Confessions of a Fabric Addict's Can I get a Whoop Whoop
OK I am being a link up junky this week. But there is so much to see on Fridays. It takes me all weekend to check them all out.

WIP Wednesday Dresden Plate Runner

I started this runner some 15 year back. It was Before Children BC. I think most of the fabrics are Northcott fabrics. I have it hand basted together and was planning to hand quilt it. I have gone around one plate.  That's it.

I dug it out this past week because I have thought of starting a new Dresden plate quilt. Surely I should finish this one before I start another one. I may just finish it with machine quilting and get it done. Not sure if I have any binding for it. Might have to add this to the UFO list 2012. Not doing very good on that old list.
