Spring Jacket

One week to get my new Spring jean jacket done. I love how the Tim Holtz fabrics went with denim. I really liked the Blue Tailor fabric as it is so close to denim.

Look what I did for a hem, I used the waist of the old jeans. I was able to match up the button and button whole. Love how the belt loops come up and attach to the patchwork. It was so worth it to use old jeans.

I finished the jacket off with old Brass buttons. The top one is a horse head button I got in Huston in 1999. The others are all a little different.

Picking out buttons for the jacket was a big deal. I got out many different buttons, here is my black and white glass buttons. I did not like the all black ones, too dark. Also white was not great either.

I got laying out the different styles on the front. I was starting to think the blue grey shell ones where a winner. How ever.

The brass one won out. Sorry kind of a dark photos, the sunlight was fading.

Details

For the back of the jacket, I used 2 legs of old Levi jeans. The sleeves were cut from one leg of a second pair of jeans. The old recycled jean fabric is so soft.  See how the waist runs around to the back of the jacket too.

The lining of the front part is a indigo shibori dyed fabric I made some years ago. I like to put a surprise inside my jackets.

Now if it would warm up for spring I could wear my Jacket.

Design Wall Monday

My Design Wall has been busy this weekend. I played around with nine patches and some Tim Holtz fabric, this was the final layout. I have started to make another new jacket for myself. I love the dark blue fabric and thought this all would look so good with Denim.

I took apart a few old pairs of jeans. I also gave the leg parts an extra wash. Some legs looked like they were not real clean and they did come out cleaner.

I took the belt waist area off 2 pairs for an idea. We will see if I like the waist used or not.

So I got both side of the front of the jacket together and then did the machine quilting.

This is the patch work I started with. I ended up making the nine patches the other way. So 5 dark units with 4 in the corner. So I had a bit of resewing to do. I am happy with the end way.

Jacket and Bag

Last fall I started this jacket. I have been getting some good use out of my jacket this fall. We now have snow and it is not really warm enough for snow. I looked back and I had not posted a finished photo of my jacket. I have had lots of great comments. One lady want me to make one for her. I told her she could not pay me enough. I am not sure she liked my answer.

I got this cute bag done this month. I love the west coast fish batik fabric and I am very pleased with how it shows off the fish well. I got this fabric on a holiday to Victoria BC. The quilt shop had fabric with Eyes on sale. So I picked the fish out. The Pink batik was so nice, that I went back to the local shop and got what was left on the bolt 1.8M. Glad I have more to play with, it goes with so many fabric, just enough purple or blue in it.

I kind of followed this FREE Pattern on Craftsy, it is called Sew South Tote Bag . But I did it without all the interfacing and I quilted the outer fabric and used batting in the handles. The bag measures around 18 by 20 or so. Great for taking a quilt project with me or some shopping.

I have added this too Crazy Mom Quilts Finish up Friday

Soon, so soon, We will be able to see the first step of Bonnie Hunter's new Mystery Quilt. I am ready to start it. That great Pink is in the stack.

Crazy Busy

OK sorry I have been missing in Action. My fall has been so busy then there is no time left to take photos and write on my blog.
The most resent thing has been the class I did for the Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild. Here I am in front of the blocks I did for the class.

Late in Sept I took a Jacket class from Peggy Fleet and part of the Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild. Above is the fabric I had picked out for my jacket.

Peggy took this photo of me working on my machine quilting the patch work to the back of the jacket.

I planned to show this off on my blog much earlier, Here is the lay out on my wall. The jacket was built on a grey fleece jacket. I made the patchwork then quilted it on.

I was worried about the pocket and how to make it work out. Wow I nailed it. I love how the pockets turned out. I had to do a bit of hand stitching here and there but it was so worth it. Love my new jacket. Now I need to get a photo of me wearing it.

Here is Gemma. Today is her Birthday. She is 1 year.

For her Birthday she got 2 new toys and some lip smacking Ginger cookies.
