Christmas Re-cap

My mom, Betty, made this quit top and I machine quilted it. We then gave it to a special young lady who has been with hanging out with our family.

I made up double sets of pillow cases. Good thing, one son washed an older one Monday and it wore out with holes. The white and teal set went with the quilt.

My brother and his wife got a set of hand knitted mittens from me. I had done mittens for my brother about 23 years ago. He has had others but was asking for hand knitted mittens again. My Grandmother on my dad's side always did mittens for us kids. She also taught me how to knit just some real basic stuff, case on and off and knit and pearl. She has been gone for over 30 years now.

Succulent Tree. I saw a post on Face book with a few photos showing how to put a tree together. I have tons of these one crazy succulents.  They always get so long necked so I am forever trimming them and replanting them. I have learned it is a lack of light but I still have not plugged in a grow light.  Well I cut them off and used them. The tree is a chicken wire cone stuffed with moss and then add all the plants. I mist it down every few days. I will soon plant them. I have checked on a few and many are growing roots and will be ready to put in dirt.

NCW for Sister in law

For Christmas I worked on this wallet for my Sister in law. The pattern is called Necessary Clutch Wallet. Or NCW it is called. I used a dark Navy leather on the outside and for the handle. Then I used Tula Pink's Owl print for the flap and sides. The solid purple is one of my Hand Dyed fabrics.

There are 2 areas to put your cards. I also did this inside flap so you can put your cell phone inside and not have it flip out.

The hard ware I used is the Rainbow finish. It was so perfect with the Owl print. I hope she loves the wallet. I know I love how it turned out.

On the side you can see I used Chicago screws and then did not sew up the sides. I did it for my wallet. After I am happy with that part I put a dob of glue in the screw so they stay in place.

Christmas Gift

The first Christmas gift has been given and has a new home. Last week at the Leduc guild we exchanged gifts, it was to be for your table. I made a tea cozy with selvages.

Here is the other side.

When I had the two halves done and trimmed to size.

I made the cozy kind of quickly and this is what my floor looked like when I was done. My bag of selvages had exploded.

I will have to show what I got! soon.

Christmas Gifts

I did a tuffet for my sister in law for Christmas. She does not have much colour in her house so I gave it a zap of brightness. I think she liked it.

I used the Pinks I had from the Kaffe Fassett collection.

Next I got working on some zipper bags. This one with the stamp fabric was for my dad. I put his main gift inside the bag. I gave him some Iphone cords and a jack for his new ride. We call it the Big Orange because it is Orange and has a lift kit and large tires and makes lots of noise. Old guy are still just boys at heart. He has fun with it.

This one was for my brother's boy. He likes Star Wars. I had some money in it for him.

I gave this one for my mom. I had a little spoon and spread knife in it for her. I had to make her one if my dad was getting one.

It had a pocket in it. I made the pocket just perfect, I might have to ask for it back so I know what I did right.

I also made the one on the left for me. These two kind of go together well.

All Together. The pattern for these bags came from Sew Like a Rock Star. It is called the Bionic Essentials Bag. I signed up for the level 2 member. You can buy the pattern for $9 US if that is all you want. I also bought the pattern for the Bionic Gear Bag. Maybe by next week I can be done that to show off.

I have added this post to Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict

For my brother's family I made Pillow cases. 2 are Star Wars and the one on the far left is Star Trek. My brother is the Star Trek fan.

Christmas Is coming

I got my Christmas Tree shirt finished. Years ago I made a very plain looking skirt, it got some stains was not nice to start with but it did the job. So for years I have thought I needed to make a good quilted tree skirt. Finally it is done. I cheated a little and my mom, Betty did the patchwork. I picked the colours and did the quilting and binding.

Last year, our tree was cut from our land and I think we will be taking another one that we planted about 15 years ago. We have a very small tree plantation. We planted maybe 800 tees planted. We used some in our yard and about 30 for my parents farm yard ( now sold ). I am so happy that this year the tree will have a good looking finish to it. My Husband is in Forestry so we have always done a real tree.

Here is the quilting. I did holly leaves and berries all over it. The prints are so busy it does not show the quilting.

This is the skirt hanging at the Leduc quilt show.

Wednesday night was the Leduc guild meeting and the Christmas Pot luck dinner. We have a little Christmas exchange each year. This year it was to be something for the kitchen. I did the little selvage pot holders, above. In return I got the snow men place mats. Jan made the place mats and they are so cute. Thank you Jan.

I have linked up to Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Go see what else has been finished by the others.

Design Wall Monday

I have some lime green rail fence checkerboard blocks done. Green and lime are two different colours in my stash. I have a scrap box just for lime green. I once did a quilt where the back ground was lime. I got started on the rail fence checkerboard blocks after being inspired by Bonnie Hunters and her leaders and ender challenge. Go check out her post about the rail fence challenge.

I needed a gift to give away so I got a good start with my selvages. I think I will keep going and make some for myself. I have used the heat resistant silver fabric and plan these to be hot mats. They still need a binding.

Tuffet Gift

I thought I had lost these photos. Look I found them. Here is the third and last tuffet I made for Christmas.

I used all black and white fabric and made sure they have mostly black. Two of the fabrics are batik. I got this one done just in time. It would not have be possible if not for the help of my dear Dad.

I have added this post to Crazy Mom Quilts and the Finish up Friday link.

I lost a few photos over the holidays. So sorry they are so old but I just have to show you. Here is part of the yard. We had heavy frost and then clean sunny weather, the world was covered in sparkles and glitter.

Next is the Christmas tree. It was extra special this year. We cut one of the trees we grew. Back in 2002 we planted a few hundred blue spruce trees in our lower field. This year has been the first time we cut our own tree. I loved this tree. I hope we can take a few more over the years.

Christmas Gifts

I can show you the tuffets I made. The Red one was made for my mom, Betty. When I was starting I asked my dad to make some feet for me. He has his wood shop in my yard these days. I think turning is a favorite for him to do. So yes these feet are made by him. Mom has a carpet with the dark red but very little red in her house. so now a big splash of red on her tuffet.

Mom was pleased with her gift.

The Blue one I made for my mother in law. She has blue and brown in her house. I thought dark blue would wear better then light blue. I pulled her name for Christmas this year. I think she was surprised to get it.  All the fabrics are Kaffe Fassett.

The feet on this tuffet are the store bought ones I got for myself. I now have a set dad made for me.

I made one more for a gift. The photos are on my phone. It will have to wait and be another blog post another day. I also want to make one for myself. Maybe later in the week.

I also must say a big thank you to dad! He helped me for days and days. We worked on getting the batting and the fabric all stapled in place. I gave him a button to help me with , opps, he took the pliers and a screw driver to it. I had to buy another button to cover. He was a big help and just a few days before Christmas.

Christmas Gifts

I can only show a little bit of what I have done for gifts. First was the Leduc guild Christmas party and gift exchange. We were to exchange some kind of bag. I wanted to use some fabric I had dyed this fabric,

And I want to use it. It was a little bigger then a fat quarter so my bag can not be too big. I made these square bags or totes.

I had enough to make a mini square one too. I was happy how they turned out. I think the lady that got them liked them.
Oh I forgot to take a photo of the great little bag I got in return.

This pretty blue fabric is part of a Christmas gift. Not telling any more then that. I have taken photos of what I made so maybe next week I can show you. I have all my gifts finished but not wrapped yet.

I did not get my tree skirt done. Maybe next year, or maybe aim for the guild quilt show in October then it will be done for next Christmas.

Another Pot Warmer

I did another dutch oven warmer cover. In one family, the adults draw names for Christmas. I drew my mother in laws name. I know she loves it when I make her something. So I got a nice big Dutch Oven Casserole Dish in green and then made this cover to keep your food warm. She loved it.

I got a book on appetizers and a very nice long serving dish perfect for serving appetizers on. Some of my quilt related gifts are the Pink Tula colouring book and a set of templates for Double wedding ring. I want to make a double wedding ring quilt soon.

Ready for Christmas

The house is feeling like Christmas. The decorations are all out and presents are getting wrapped.

I got this cute mug rugs at the Leduc Guild Christmas party earlier in December.

They are so sweet. I have a single one beside my machine. It has enough room for a drink and cookies.

I took over the kitchen with cookies. I love making these cut out cookies. I have been making them for years, maybe even 34 years or so. My great Grandmother made these ones. It is one of the good times I remember about her when I was very young. The 1st few times I made them would have been with my mom. I know around the time I was 14 or so I took over making them. I think I have made them every Christmas since.

I had oldest son to help me with them. He is done his exams and was home playing computer games. We had a great time just talking and decorating the cookies.

Gemma and youngest son cuddling together.
