Pillows

I made these hand dyed strings blocks into pillow cases. When my son moved out I set them with him to use. As it happens, I do not have finished photos of my pillow cases. They are done.

I am pretty pleased with how they turned out. Just wish I had a totally done photo of them

Cotton Candy and other Sweets

Finished up the Cotton Candy Quilt top. The pattern is from Bonnie Hunter's book String Fling and is the last one in the book. I just love it. I have used all batik and hand dyed fabrics. Some are also hand done batiks by me. Those are extra special. I am planning to keep this quilt for me in the living room. I have loved working on this quilt because I love so many of the fabrics.

I have added this post to the linky party Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

I have started a new quilt. Yes another on in the list. I won a layer cake a few years back and had not done anything with it. Then I found more of the same fabric on sale for $6.00/m so I bought some more, enough I might also have the backing, binding and a boarder. I am using this simple block. I also did add in just a bit more lime green, te pack had some but not much so I have added a few fabrics not in the same line. It should work well.

I love the pink bird fabric.

I have been busy. So busy I have had trouble getting back to my blog, sorry. So last night I was teaching another quilt class. Many Trips Around the World. The photo is from 2014 when I last lead the class for the Leduc guild. This Saturday me and my students will be back at class. We are having so much fun.

Cherry Quilt and quilts for sale

I am slowly making some progress on the little cherry quilt. The little blocks get the triangles added in the corner and then I can work on the sashing between the blocks. I plan to use this as a table runner.

Scrap Saturday Red

I got 18 Red Butterflies done this week. I had cut them out of my scraps last week so it was quick to get them done. The pattern for them is out of the book Quilty Fun, so the same book as my tulips. Did you see the finish Tulip Quilt Top?

I have packed up some Red scraps to take with me on my little holiday. I just need to sew sometimes. So I hope to get a small 6" sample block done in this pattern but in all red. White with Red dots will count as red. It can be so hard to get some contract of value in red. Also I have packed more Glorious Hexagons to work on too.

I have added this post to Soscrappy while I am away.

Next up is a wall quilt I started to go with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017. I did a wall quilt I called Around About and then started 2nd Time Around ( I blogged a bit about it already).

So I have added some purple.

Picking out what to do next.

I will move from purple to Red now.

Next up will be the Red, I hope I can get it done as soon as I am home. I have a Red and purple strip set ready to go. I need more red added. Not sure how I can get the red to show better. I might have to dig in the hand dyed scraps to find some close to red, pink or orange.

Improve Workshop

Just over a week a go, I finally got to take a class with Cheryl Arkison. We booked her for 2 days and I took the 2nd day, Improve with Intent. The Black gold Quilt Patch had her booked last year but we were not getting many to sign up. This time we made sure other quilters in the area knew she was coming.

This is some warm up blocks done on the first day. They just used up some scrapes.

One of Cheryl's quilts.

At the start of class one of the other ladies had these bright piles of fabric. I love it!

Here is some of the sewing she did in class. I am keeping her idea secret. I hope to see her finished quilt soon. I just loved her idea too.

What did I do? Well my dog what else. If there is one thing keeping me more busy then sewing it is my dog.

Here is how much I got done in class. Next up is the ears, then maybe it will start to look like a dog. I am making a purple dog, as black is just so hard to work with. I also love colour so much why not.

I have added this to Design Wall Monday

Here is one of the photos I have used. I took photos with and without the flash. I liked the flash shots as it showed me more highlights.
I am not sure when I will get back to this project. It will be special.

Retreat Report

We all had a great time at retreat again. Who would not have fun? We were at the Gull Lake retreat center with the Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild.
I started a new quilt and was playing around with my new Bunny ears.

Here are all the fabrics I picked out. I am making Fancy Forest by Elizabeth Hartmen. I really loved the fox pattern she made a while back and thought the hedge hog was also super cute. Now she has a pattern with so many more animal, how could I not make it.  I have a lot of Kaffe Fassett Collection fabric, I have also added many hand dyed fabrics. I know all my lightest fabrics are hand dyed and a few others too.

My first 2 foxes in orange. I got a pale blue linen to use for the background. So Cute!

My first owl. I love him!

The bunny I finished at retreat. The light pink is a hand dyed fabric.

I was able to finish the 16 foxes that were required for the quilt. I had a great time making them. They went together well and quick when I did some chain piecing.

One of the other quilters had her fox pattern with her. She watched me do a fox and then dug out her fabric to make a fox. All of her fox fabric is haring bone.

Friday Finished It

I got the quilt top done for my Spider Web Quilt. I love it. So glad to see it as a quilt top, one goal done for September. I have to make a backing and get it quilted but that may not happen soon. I may quilt it over the Christmas holidays. I got the best photo on my old jump set high. There was more wind then I thought today. To see more about what I did on this quilt check The Link. This quilt top measures 108" by 96" and the quilt is planned for our bed.

This was the best I got on the old hay rack.

Then the next shot this happened. The wind blew it right off and on to the ground. OK guess I am done with hay rack shots in today's wind.

I also got this journal cover done. It uses a piece of the Poverty Piecing I had made last month.

Here is the inside. I have a zippier and pocket so I can put pens or what ever in the pocket.

I have some fabric swatches for my Grandmother's choice block of the week. I am using this book for near the computer and writing things down. My Grandmother always had a little book to write base ball scores and stats down and now my mom and I have a little book. I must be getting old.

Today the Creative Stitches Show was happening. I did a little shopping. I found more of the bright green I was looking for to use in my Grandmother's choice. More orange too. The Indigo Blue is a linen and cotton fabric that I bought. I was thinking of giving it to someone but I may have trouble parting with it. I got a book on Featherweight machines. I have one and want to know more about them. The ribbon or twill tape is a measure tape twill. It looked like I needed some. Not sure what I will use it for.

Design Wall Monday Sept 3,12

I did some work on a few more improve blocks. The two on the bottom were done last month but I did not like the edges. I got making two more and framed them all with the opposite  fabric and when back and did the same to the first two. They are 13 to 14 inches. Not sure what I will make. I am playing around. I will more than likely make more. Maybe purple next. I have so many beautiful hand dyed purple fabrics and blue and purple go together so well.

Go and see the other Design Wall's over at Patchwork Times and at Sew Happy Geek it is Manic Monday.

Garden Challenge

I found it. I started this for the Edmonton Quilter`s Guild Challenge. It was due to be handed in back in May but I could see I was not going to get the quilting and binding done to hand in. Is off to the side it went. I was going to show it in June after the other challenge quilts were reviled but I could not find it. I found it. I made it with my hand dyed fabric. It is to look like a row of roses. I am not sure I was getting the look I wanted.

The Challenge was to make a garden themed quilt that measured 6 by 12 inches. A very odd size. There were some great little quilts. My camera batteries were dead at the dinner and I did not get any photos.
I am not sure I will finish it now. I may make it in to a 12 by 12 block and use it some were else.

I have linked this up with Quilting by the River Tuesday Linky Party.

I found this photo. It is me a the CQA Dinner in Calgary 2010. I was just starting to work on the leaves I showed yesterday.

Sunday Stiching

I have the very long term project. I started the first block back in June of 2010 when I was at Quilt Canada in Calgary (correction on the place). I have it stuffed in a Purdy`s Chocolate bag to take with me. I do not work on it very often. With summer days and visiting friends and family I have been working on it again. With the Olympics  on I might get working on this again at home.

Another Kathy has a Slow Sunday Linky Party that I have added this post to. Here is a close up of the stitches I am doing. All the fabric and thread is hand dyed by me.

This is a block in progress. I piece the stem by machine and then arrange the leaves and pin then in place. Then it is ready to take along for the hand stitching.

This is the book I got the leaves from. I had to get this book by Piece of Cake Designs. My mom and I love their books and have most of them. We have done two of their patterns as mother and daughter quilts.

Here is the thread I dye. I have been selling it at the quilt shows and to my friends. I sometimes think of setting up an on line store but it sound like work.

Living Colour Auction Quilt

I few years ago I was invited to make a donation quilt for the Living Colour Show  hosted by the Association of Pacific West Quilters. They are auctioning this and a few other great quilts on May 10 to 22, 2012 on line. There is a second group of quilts auctioned off in June also. To find out more about the auction go check it out on the APWQ site. If you have every wanted to own one of my quilts this is your chance.

I named it Evaluation of Colour.

Artist Statement
I had leftover triangles, which led to an idea for making lightning out of them. I thought about lightning bringing life to color, color to life. The triangles didn’t work the way I had in mind, so I decided to go with free-form cut shapes instead and threw out the triangles. I was influenced in part by a class taken with Jane Sassaman.
Techniques & Materials
A curve pieced background and fused lighting and amoebas. The fabrics used are all my own hand dyes.

Tonight is the Edmonton Guild Meeting. I am handing in my Spring Bracelet for the guild endowment fundraiser. We also have a very good speaker Pamela Allen. Then Saturday and Sunday is the class I am in. I have not thought about what I will make or what fabric I will take with me.
