Block Exchange

I forgot to post the Christmas Blocks from the Leduc guild meeting back in December. Here is the cute 12" block I did for the monthly Lotto blocks. I used some scraps left over from my tree shirt. I still need to quilt my tree shirt, oops maybe in time for next year.

The grouping of blocks the members did. I forgot who won the blocks. I know I would have liked to win the blocks. I was thinking I do not have a Christmas quilt. While when I did not win the blocks, it did get me thinking about doing a Christmas quilt. So Yes I started one, and posted Christmas quilt started yesterday.

Also I am back doing the pizza box exchange. I got this cute little fox 8" square.

One of my larger Orchids is flowing. So nice to have flowers in the middle of winter.

Blue Stars in November

The Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch has been doing Lotto blocks all year. November the theme was Blue Stars. I did the sweet little Friendship stars using some blue scraps. I love doing them. All of our blocks are to be finished to 12 1/2 inches.

At the month meeting we post the blocks on the wall for all to see. Then in the second part of the meeting we draw a name from the tin. You get to put your name in the tin for each block that you make. I only made one block this month.

October blocks

The Black Gold Quilt Patch had their meeting at the beginning of October, 1st Wednesday of the month. The lotto block theme for the month was Halloween and colours were Black and Orange. We had a nice selection of blocks turned in. We had one winner take them home. I hope she sews them up and gets a quilt done for next years quilt show.

My pumpkin block, it all came from my scrap bins. I thought it was pretty cute.

Baby Quilt and Guild meeting

This little quilt is done and gifted to the mom to be. It is really a quilt my mom has made and I helped by doing the machine quilting. We love to give a hand made gift to a new baby.

I have added this to Crazy Mom Quilts - Finish it up Friday

The Gold Gold Quilt Patch has been working on Quilts to send to Fort Mcmurry. The whole city of 80,000 forced to leave. Some 2000 houses have been distorted by fire or the left homes unlivable.  Leduc is about 5 hours drive away but we are close as Nuski/Leduc area is a base for the oil patch, so many companies have work sites in both cities. Many workers have family around here. Our Guild thought we would made 100 quilts but already 1 month in we have 210 started and in varying stages. Many still need binding done or machine quilting but WOW, I can not believe what we have been able to got done.

We also did Lotto blocks at the guild meeting. The theme this month was Summer blocks with bright colours. I had the parts to made this block, butterflies and tulips, just had to put it together.

Then I also made a strawberry block. I had this little black seed fabric. I first went looking to make a watermelon but liked this idea better. It would be cute in pink also.

We only had 6 blocks handed in, but I like them. I think we were all so busy making Fort Mac quilts. One of the members is going to take the blocks and add last months block to them and make a Fort Mac quilt with them.

May Flowers

April Showers brings May flowers

For the month of May the Black Gold Quilt Patch Lotto blocks are Flowers with some green and bright colours.

Purple and lime green. These blocks are 12 1/2" square, so it was build with 3 1/2" squares and triangles.

Blues and green. This block looks great in the photo but in person it is kind of dark and did not work out so well.

I love Pink and Lime green together so my favorite.

Orange and green.

I know this one is not like the others but it is so cute. I did the machine applique a few years ago and it was just hanging around. I think I will plan to add it in to the lotto blocks.

The Guild meeting is tonight. I am the speaker tonight. If you want to come a see Log Cabin quilts, join us.

String blocks

For the month of April the Leduc guild Lotto block exchange was string blocks. I have been making 2 blocks most of the time. I had fun working on these little scrap gems. Always fun to pull out the strings and sew. The first block I did was made with 4 - 6 1/2 " blocks and set in a pinwheel Then I did 9 - 4 1/2" blocks and played with the setting and this diagonal setting was what I liked the best.

We just had 15 blocks and left them all together for one draw. I forgot who won.
Next month May we are doing flowers and we are to use green with Bright colours.

I played with the 9 small string blocks before I sewed them. First a star.

Then this one.

I almost made the block into this.

Nice but would be best if the blocks were an even number or a whole lot more of them.

At our May meeting I am the speaker. I am doing a show and tell and slide show all about Log Cabin Quilts  It is Wednesday May 4th in Leduc at the St David's United Church 7:15.

Lotto Blocks

The Black Gold Quilt Patch did the monthly Lotto Block again in March. The theme this month was Baby and the colours where Purple and Green. We had a few frogs, a turtle and a fish. It is so much fun to see what everyone makes.

I did a pinwheel block. I thought it was a good block for a baby quilt.

April's lotto block is string blocks with multi coloured and half light colours. I have been resisting showing them what to do. I want to see how creative they can be. I have some ideas what I am going to do.

February Lotto Blocks

We had great turn out for our Lotto blocks at the Leduc Guild. We had a total of 20 blocks handed in. Great to see. It was our first meeting in several years since we had done them.
We asked members to make a 12 1/2" block. We were looking for Heart themed and to use Red, Pink and White in your block. We had 3 blocks that were done with embroidery machines, they were a hit.

Next month is Baby themed using Green and Purple as the colours. again 12 1/2|" block, made with cotton fabric.

Scrappy Lotto Blocks

I need a few 12" block so I was playing in my scrappy triangles. I make a block with 4 friendship stars. It is just so cute.

I have added this post to So Scrappy Saturday link party.

I am on the program committee for the Leduc quilt guild ( called Black Gold Quilt Patch) and at the next meeting we are starting Lotto blocks. I felt I better make sure to do it. I started in my scrappy triangles and dug out Red to make the Red heart. So February's block is Hearts in Red, Pink and White.

Here is my pink block. I really only needed to do 1 block but I just could not stop myself.

So how are we doing our lotto blocks, you ask?
We are picking a theme and a colour each month and asking members to make a 12 1/2" block. We will then draw a name out of a hat to see who wins the blocks. If you make a block you get a chance to win the blocks from that month. We did this years ago when the guild started. If we get lots of blocks like more 15, we will split the block into 2 groups and draw 2 names.

This past week I needed to do up more door prizes. So here is my hand dyed fabric do up to give away at the Edmonton and District Quilter Guild. The 5 bundles will get me to the end of the year, June.
