Pink Saturday

I got some more Wild and Goosey blocks done. The first row of blue were from last month. Then I worked on 8 Pink blocks for the RSC2015. I wanted more blue so, I did a 8 more blue ones too. I  did them all with paper piecing. I do not really think of them done till the paper is out. So yes the paper is out now. Then they stick to the wall too.
I have added today's post to Soscrappy Playing with Pink post and linky party.

Edit: Here is the PDF pattern for the Wild and Goosey

I found these blocks. I made then back in Sept 2014, the colour of the month was Orange back then. I did post about some sampler blocks I did but for some reason I did not get a photo of these blocks. They were out near the design wall but no photos and no post about them. The large spool is 8" sq and the nine patches are 3 1/2" . I have most of the large spools that I wanted to get done. Not sure what I will do with them next. Not sure what I will do with the nine patches.

Tiny Scraps

I have been working on my Grand Illusion Mystery quilt but in between steps I have been digging into some of the tiniest scraps. I have 27 log cabin pineapple blocks done so far. These blocks are from Bonnie Hunter's String Fling book. I did a couple earlier in the year but I have been back at them again.

They use some of the smallest bits of fabric. That is almost dangerous, because I am keeping some very small pieces of fabric. As I get to the outside, the pieces are much more reasonable to keep.  I just love that I am using every colour in all the blocks and some of the busy prints work so well because the pieces are so small.

Here is another batch of them started up. I am doing them on the paper foundations and so far the paper has been no trouble taking out.  I am using Chinese Red Kona in the center and White Kona for my light colours.

I have linked up with Soscrappy's linky page today. Many of the other scrap quilters are getting finished some of their quilt tops or making goals for next year. But I have so many missing blocks still. Next year I will just have to finish up more scrap tops and do less starting projects. I am great at starting but not so good at finishing the quilts.

Gemma wants a belly rub. We played Agility last night and again the morning. She was such a good girl.

Scraps at Retreat

This quilt was made my mom Betty (right). It is Scrappy trips Around the World and the pattern can be found on Bonnie Hunter's Site Here. There were many done last year when there was a quilt a long. I love the purple and greens mom used.

Here is mom again. A few weeks ago mom and I did a retreat together. It is the best time in the world. Quilting, sewing, eating and talking with mom. I thought I should show you my photos from this years retreat. It was a few weeks ago, but I guess better late then never.

On the far side is my aunt Arley and the near lady is her sister, Fay. They do not live close so the retreat is a great time for them too.

Mom and I have booked again next year.

I kind of started two new scrap projects at retreat. First is the Lozenges, also a based on a Bonnie Hunter  pattern. It is meant to be a Leaders and Enders Project. I started by just cutting a few things on the end of my table at home. Some of the fabrics have not found a home. Then I went to the orange scrap box then the Brown scrap box. I will have to be sure there are some light Blue ones for the Rainbow Scrap challenge.

I bought a new little ruler on the way to retreat (far left) so I cut some bits for another new scrap quilt. It maybe a Thousands Triangles some day. See the light blue on the top row?

So at retreat I also love to collect some scraps. I went dumpster diving and shopping at the re-home it table. I found some of these scraps and then the lady cutting came by my table with the middle stack. We had a fabric exchange so there were some new fabrics use in my scrap quilts. I just love having a bit of other peoples scraps.

I have added today's post to Soscrappy's Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2014

Saturday Scrap Sewing

Orange is the September Rainbow Scrap Challenge colour for the month. I had sometime today to sew and watch TV. I watched Spruce Meadows Show Jumping, wishing I was there.
I got 6 sampler blocks done. They measure 6 1/2". As we had snow earlier this week it is feeling like fall, so I had to make a leaf block. I happen to quickly find a pattern to follow in my Farmer's Wife Book. So the next 2 and the center bottom one was also from the book. I did a simple 9 patch and the the star made with the triangles on the outside. Wow sounds nice and quick but, it always takes more time with the scraps.

Here is the box of scraps I was working with today. Kind of sorted.
I have added today's post to Soscrappy for more Orange ideas go see.

Friday and Saturday was the Creative Stitches show in Sherwood Park/ Edmonton. I made it again this year, Friday. I did some packet book damage. I bought a few more Kaffe Fassett fabrics again. I was worried about not have enough different colours for my Dear Jane. I was pleased to find 4 very good Oranges and some more Blues, that I did not have before. Some are Fat quarters and some are half meters.  I also got 2 books and a few jewelry findings.

Sewing Season is Back

I did do some patchwork over the past 5 weeks but was just too busy to show it here. I have 4 pretty little red sampler blocks. I got them done the last week of July.

Next up is the string triangles. I have no idea how I will use these but they are added to the rainbow stash of blocks.

Here is all the red I did back in July for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I love these shots as it show I did get so much done in one month.

I have also sent some time working on my Dear Jane blocks again. Aug was light Green so I worked at planning out my green fabrics and blocks.

Here are the blocks I got done in green so far. I have a another handful started but not done yet. I see Sept is Orange. I have added my post to Soscrappy with Saturday fall brights

We had a great holiday, spending the last weeks in British Columbia. We drove and spent all our time with the dogs and staying in hotels. We had all our nights booked so we knew the dogs were welcome were we stayed.

Here is Gemma and I at Lake Louise. She wanted to play in the water so badly.

Red Flower

I got one red flower block done this week. Not much for scrap busting. I did a few yellow ones last year but I can not find the photo. I am sure it is somewhere. I still have a few red blocks I want to get done and then there is the catching up from the other months, yellow, and green also have some work left. As you can see these are many year projects.

Happy Sunflowers. It is an older photo but maybe you can see the block looks a little like a sunflower. If not, What kind of Red flower does it look like?

I have linked up with SoScrappy.

Gemma Pup and I went to Dock Dogs today. We got a 3rd place in junior. We had so much fun.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Red Saturday Scraps

I got my Sprouts done. I have been waiting for Red so I could finish up these blocks. I have 5 blocks done in each Red, Pink, Purple, Lime, Green, and Blue blocks done in sprouts. I should have enough blocks to make a cute little quilt. My design wall is a bit busy so I will wait before I did all the blocks out to play.

My small ironing board cover is very sad and full of wholes, so it was time to replace it.

Here is the new pale Yellow cover. It is nice to have a clean new cover. Good enough for photos.

I got a few stacks of nine patches done. I think there are 30 here.

I also got a few Heart blocks done. I had lots of squares and triangles left over from the sprouts, so I used a few more scraps up.

To see what the other quilter's are making with their Red scraps check out Soscrappy.

Last week I was away on Saturday and did not make a post because I was too busy with my puppy. We went out to try Dock Jumping. My friend took a video of us Here. It is 5 min long so really only go see it if you are interested in my crazy dog adventures. We had to much fun and she learned so much. Love my little Black Girl.

Red Scraps

We have a new month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2014 and the new colour is Red. I got a few sampler blocks done last month but had not posted. I finished my Purple blocks and got 5 green ones done for April. I still need Yellow sampler blocks from June. I hope this month I can get the sampler blocks all caught up. I still have to do 4 Green ones, 9 yellow and now 9 Red ones.

I got out the Red scrap Box. It is one of the better sorted boxes. It is not over flowing but there is enough to play and have some fun.

I did not have lots of sewing time today 1st son is in city finals for soccer, so I sat in the sun and got a little red myself. Yes sunburned. I got to finish this 8" spool block.

Next I sorted and cut and was preparing more red scraps. I am in need of 5 Sprout blocks. I was hopping Red would come up.  I need to get these Red blocks done and then I can think about how I want to finish my sprouts quilt.

Last week some of the quilters doing the RSC14 showed off the mid way point of their work check it out Here.
This week you can see what is up with Red at Soscrappy

Scraps Got Me Back

Last week I made a post about all my UFO's related to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I kind of got doing the RSC in late 2012 because I wanted a project to kick start me. Well it did. Before that I was having a very long quilting slump. I was having trouble finding the joy in quilting for me. Also know I machine quilt for other and have been for 15 years now. I had made many art quilts and traditional quilts that were good enough to send to large National quilt shows. I had been apart of a small art quilt group that did a new themed show each year and sent to many galleries in Western Canada, I needed to do six to ten good art quilts each year. I had done some teaching at a local shop and then was doing some travel teaching as well. I think I lost some goals. You know "been there done that" feeling. Why did I quilt? I do not need more quilts in the house, really. I have not had much luck selling them.

Well the RSC helped me find the joy, I would find a little block or two to work on here and there. The colour I worked on was picked for me at Soscrappy. I could try out a block and not make something big. I was not needing to buy more fabric. I was using the scraps. I could play with a little block pattern and not make a big commitment. I had fun playing in my stash and sorting out the little bits of fabric. It really helped me to get back to patch work for fun.

Bouncy Ball -72" x 92" completed in 2012

I show you Bouncy Ball because I was so inspired by the RSC I could not stop and made the whole quilt in just a few weeks. I just went ahead and did a few extra colours and I quickly had a top done.  Then I wanted it quilt it right away. Done.

Bouncy Ball on the agility equipment. The block looks like a Hollie Roller that I use to help train my dog at agility.

I tell you all about this because I see a few friends and internet buddies that are saying they are in a slump. We never know how long it will last. We do not know how or when it will happen to any of us. I know I have had little slumps before, in part from some kind of lose or sadness. Like when my grandmother died. It only lasted a few months so no big deal. But for a slump to take more then a year, maybe two years. Och. And to not know why or what triggered the slump did not help. I know some are in a forced slump like losing your sewing space to family moving in or needing to take care of someone sick. But they will be back as soon as they can.

Making my list last week helped me get back to work on the RSC. I have had a very busy spring and was not getting my patchwork done. I got behind on a few blocks and colours. I was not sure where I was at. I am hopping to finish a few quilts this year. I have loved having a block or two to do each week, but someday I will have to get to the larger job of sewing the blocks together.

So this weeks RSC2014 blocks.

My lantern block.

My yellow spool, in the correct size of 8".

Yellow and Green nine patches. I did not get the green ones done last month. These are 3 1/2" square.

The whole wall at once. Not too bad for a week of colour.
You can go see what others are doing in Yellow this week by checking out the linky page at Soscrappy.

Design Wall Monday June 2nd

May was the month of Green scraps. I thought on the weekend I would fill my wall with all the Green blocks I have done this year and last year. I am very late but I will add this to the Scrap Saturday over at Soscrappy and today being Monday Design Wall Monday with Judy.

I got this green free form piece last week but had not downloaded my photos till today. It started out as two Fat Quarters of green. Part way into re piecing it  I thought it needed more interest. So I added the Bright flower like squares. I think of this as spring.

I got a few more Dear Jane Rainbow blocks done. Some purple ones are still needed and then the first few lime and green ones.

This little green block is total hand pieced. It is all Y seams so I thought I would try hand piecing and I am very happy with how it turned out.

This is part of my colour plan for my Dear Jane. I have cut out a 1 1/2" square of each fabric I use to show the colour of each block. This way I will not have same fabric to close to each other. This Dear Jane is going to be very well documented.

Gemma my 6 month old Lab puppy went for her first swim yesterday. She had so much fun.

It has been a while since I post photos of her. She is getting big and getting into more trouble.
