Bad to the Bone

Bad to the Bone is done. I started to call this project Bad to the Bone right from the start. I was so bad to start a new project and buy an arm load of new fabric when I should not have. I had so many quilts on the go and so many that needed to to be finished and now I was starting something new.
Then I was bad, I got the top done quickly but did not quilt it for years. Extra bad.

Outside snow shots are so much fun to do. Maybe a bit cold to do but fun to look back at all the blue white snow and my bright quilts.

I was so unsure of how I was going to quilt this quilt. It sat for a long time, a finished top but not done. I was very pleased with how the quilting worked out. On the dark stings I did straight lines not measured out so fine but not evenly spaced. Then on the light coloured stings I did curvy shapes and every diamond is different, so lots of different quilting.

Here the quilt is hanging at the Leduc quilt show back in Oct. Yes it has been done for a few months. I was not blogging much at the time because I was so busy quilting. I had my nose in the fabric and not in the computer.

I have added this post to Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict.  There is lots to see at both sites.

Framed Art Quilts

I am getting ready to take a few arm loads of quilts to the Edmonton and District Quilter's Guild Quilt show. This year they are hosting a Members Market for finished quilts. I am going to take many of my quilts and offer them for sale.

I have also been updating my page Art Quilts For Sale about Art quilts I have for sale. I also have the Quilts For Sale where I keep the more traditional bed and lap quilts.

All three of these little beauties are framed by my dad using old barn wood. We do not have any more old barn wood now. The barn is gone. The old barn would have been made of wood from the area. So old barn wood made with trees grown locally.

Spring Tulips Finished

Spring is in the air! I have my tulip quilt finished and ready to go in the local quilt show next month. We finally have green grass and a little less mud. I think this has been one of the muddiest springs we have had. I have had tulips in my garden but the gophers have gotten to them and most are gone now. The quilt will have to do.

This quilt pattern is from the book Quilty Fun. I still have many more tulip blocks I can use in another quilt. I made many of the tulip blocks as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over the past few years.

I have added this post to Finish Up Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts

Another photos on a fence rail, this time with the wind behind the quilt. Also behind the quilt is my black lab and the 5 horses in the distance.

I did some fussy machine quilting on the tulip block. Lot of little spirals and some ditch work and then some flowing lines to follow the leaves and tulip petals. It did mean I changed the thread some 30 times or more.

My backing and binding show off here. I had some lighter coloured fabrics that I thought looked good with the front of the quilt.

The wind was a problem for photos today. I took lots and most look like this photo, flapping so badly you can not see the quilt. Yet somehow I like a few of these photos. It makes the quilt come alive.

The quilt show I plan to put this quilt in is the Edmonton and Districts Quilt Guild show.  The Quilt show is June 3rd and 4th at the Central Lions Seniors Centre at 11113-113 Street NW Edmonton. The times are June 3 Saturday 10 am till 5 pm and June 4th Sunday 10 am till 4 pm.

Canadian National Juried Quilt Show

I have just found out that they have posted the winners and photos of the winners in the CQA  National Juried Quilt Show (NJS) .

My quilt Bounce Ball is in the collection. Some of the other winners I have known for year so it is great to see what their quilts look like too.

I am waiting for my quilt to come home still. I got word that it is in the mail. Please come home safely.

Now to come up with a new quilt for the NJS 2013. It will be 25 years. The show will be in Penticton, BC May 16 to 18 2013. I think I might have to go to the show that year as it is in driving distance.

Design Wall Monday June 11

Sunday the weather was cold and rainy so, I sewed a good part of the day. I worked on my RRCB quilt. I now have six main blocks completely done and some of the string blocks sewn together.  I have added this post to Patchwork Times and Sew Happy Geek linky page.

I also worked on more purple triangles. When will they end. I still have more of these to do.

Friday last week I got to go the Central Alberta Quilt Guild Show. Also known as the Red Deer Quilt Show. I did more shopping. There is a very large market mall at this show. Shops from BC and Manitoba and all over Alberta come to sell us goods. I had to buy more fabric. Some of the fabrics I got were only $1.50 to $3.39 for a FQ and in Canada. How can one not buy fabric then.

The book guy was there, so I picked out two books this time. Whitework Quilting by Karen McTavish. This book is out of print now. I was planning on buying it last Dec when I took the class but she sold out too quickly. Sorry the photo is side ways.

I also bought the Modern Patch Work book. I like a few of the quilts and will have to make some of them.

At the Red Deer show they sold Raffle quilt tickets on this quilt. It is made by some of the members.

Here is a small part of the quilt show. I did not get permission to post photos of some of the quilts. I should be asking each quilts maker and that is impossible. This is just one row. There are more then four rows of large quilts with at least three rows of small quilts and then all the market is around the outside and down another hall way. I am sure it is the largest floor area any quilt show in Alberta has.

Old Machine

Scarlet a hand crank with wooden case
This is part two of the Wetaskiwin Quilt Show I saw on Friday last week. One of the members, Marlene Olson, had two old singer machines on display. With the help of her Husband they had redone these old machines. One of the machines was in very bad shape and she was saving it from the dump. Her husband has been in the auto body industry and has also redone old Coke memorabilia.

Part of what was so nice was the book and photos of what they had done. Both machines were not in good shape when they got them, so why not fix them. It was good to see how bad they were.

Cinderella with a motor and table
They had to reproduce all the decals. This white one had blue decals. I really liked it. I have dug out one of my old machines to sew on this week. I have a little slip in the belt sometimes and may have to look into what I need to do to fix that. May need a new belt.

Thank you Marlene for letting me show and share these little beauties. I want my uncle Dave to see these.

Wetaskiwin Quilt Show

I just got back from the Wetaskiwin Quilters Group Annual Quilt Show in Wetaskiwin Alberta. This quilt is a group quilt that they have made for a raffle quilt. They do some fund raising so they can make more charity quilts. I know this quilt is a pattern but I have forgotten to get the pattern information on it. It is a very nice quilt to use for a raffle and it has matching pillow shams too.

Here I did take a photo of the pillow shams. I think the show is on Saturday also from 10 till 5. If you live near it, you should go and see it. It is about 35 minute drive from my house. We play soccer in Wetakiwin a few times a year and I take some Agility classes just outside of Wetskiwin.

This quilt was made by the Wetaskiwin Quilters Group also and is one of the quilts they are giving to Habitat for Humanity in Wetaskiwin. The Pattern is called Strippity Quick by Susan Strong, one of their members. I am amazed at how nice this charity quilt is.

Now I made sure to ask about taking photos and then I asked Susan Strong if I could make a blog post with her quilts. I loved almost everything she made. Mostly because they are the bright colours I would use. This little quilt was made by Susan Strong and is a pattern by Malka Dubrawsky. It is her book Fresh Quilting. Her blog is Stitch In Dye.

I did take more photos but did not ask all the quilters if I could make a blog post on their quilts too. So you will have to see Susan Strong's quilts for now.

This is a small wall quilt by Susan Strong and she got the pattern in Quilting Arts Magazine.  It is ruff edge appliquéd and stitched down by machine. So bright and cheery.

One the other side of the quilt rack was this little gem. Too bad these two quilts were not hung up by Susan but she had many that were hung up and these were small enough to fold and put here. Susan called this one Mitered Corners and has drafted a pattern she called Easy Peasy Blocks from 10".

The Mosaic Table Topper by Susan Strong again. This was a pattern she got online from a tutorial by Elizabeth Hartman. I have given you the link to all her tutorials and they look very fun. I will have to go check them out more closely. I think my Mom liked this idea as she got her note book out to write down the information.

This was Susan Strong guild challenge quilt. The guild challenge was to make a quilted clock. It was to have a working clock in it. I love the idea.

Modern Dresden Plate by Susan Strong again. She has found a tutorial on line with Geta Grama. Susan said this was a class sample for a class she was teaching at Quilting From the Heart. I love quilts with lots of white and bright colours. I may have to make one myself. Good thing I kept good notes from the quilt show.

I had to do some shopping at the quilt show. They had a small market mall so I shop. The top 8 fabrics are from Malka Dubrawsky line of fabric. I was hoping a local shop would bring in this fabric, Quilting From the Heart has 40 fabrics from Malka. They have a big sale this weekend at the store in Camrose too. It is "Jaywalkers" in Camrose, AB this weekend so many of the local stores have great sells, including the dress shop many ladies love.

The two on the bottom are from a new shop in Ponoka called Prairie Points Quilt Shop. I have a gift certificate from them I need to go spend. I think we are planning to stop and shop there next Friday on our way to the Red Deer quilt show. The Red Deer Quilt show or Central Alberta Quilt Guild is having a quilt show next Friday and Saturday. Me and Mom and two bee group friends are planning the road trip to some quilt shops and the quilt show.

Here are the Malka fabrics on the bottom and my own wax batik fabrics on the the top of the photo. Can you see they will go together. I have about 10 more fabrics with wax that I need to dye yet. I hope to get to do some more dying and waxing done this summer. Maybe this weekend? not sure if there is time I have some gardening to finish first. I have flowers and tomato plants to go in yet.
