Blue Spiral Quilt

I got the machine quilting done on this little blue quilt on Saturday. I now have the binding to do. I should have it done in a few days. I like to hand stitch the binding down.

I few people have asked me about the design of the block. It is a log cabin done in a spiral. I got a block in one of my pizza block exchanges done by a friend. I am sure it is out there as a basic block. I used 1 1/2" strips of fabric. I think my blocks were done till they measured 12". Half the blocks have 3 light sides and the other half of the blocks have 3 dark sides. Then I could get them to lay out with out 2 dark or 2 light strips beside each other.

I quilted it with pale blue thread and did a spiral design all over it. It is so nice a warm.

Monday's Wall

My wall is looking the same as Saturday. I was to busy working on Icing my fancy cookies this weekend. This was started when Bonnie Hunter released a leaders and enders challenge this summer. One example she suggested was the Checkerboard in black and white. I just had to also do it Rainbow too.

Also I am winding down on the machine quilting for Christmas. This is one customer's quilt I did earlier this month. I have one small wall hanging to do today. Then I can work on some small gifts.

Here is the whole quilt with one little spot of sunlight.

Edmonton Guild Quilt Show

On the weekend I spent Sunday at the Edmonton and District Quilter's guild bi annual Quilt Show. I took a few photos and thought I better share some of them with you.

My Mom Betty, got a few ribbons. This is her with her Gypsy Wife Quilt. I did the machine quilting.

She got one of these pretty hand embellished Ribbons.

My log cabin plaid quilt with the hearts. I have not gotten a real good photo of this quilt. I had many comment to me about the long arm quilting I did on this quilt. I did feather hearts and I was very pleased with how this quilting up. I got this quilt done in Oct 2015 a few months after the last Edmonton guild show, so it was eligible to be shown here.

My Christmas Postage Stamp Quilt. I really like this quilt.

This quilt is also my mom's. I do all her machine quilting. It got a 3rd place.
She had 2 other quilts that got ribbons but I did not get photos of them. I must have gotten distracted by all the shopping.

Also at the quilt show they had a Members Mall. This corner was were my quilts and wall hanging were. Wow they had a good sized room and were able to show off my quilts better then I thought. I was told I would get a table and could bring a quilt rack. I did not know some were going to get up on the wall.

There is a table with my book ( the Yellow paged book is one of the other members). I worked hard on the book as I thought it would help sell a stack of quilts. There was enough to look at I am not sure many really looked at my book. It is nice to have it done now.
The framed wall quilts are mine. I thought this was a good place for these framed ones to sell.

Another view of the my art for sale.

As the quilt show is were we show off the finished quilts, I have added this post to Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

Farm Girl Vintage

I did a few more blocks from the book Farm Girl Vintage. This block is not in the book but is one of the extra blocks you can buy. I just love the garden and had to make peas and carrots. I love eating garden fresh peas and carrots with a dab of butter.

Maybe I need a bunny to go next to my peas and carrots. Happy Easter!

The milk can with many different fabrics used. I should say I am working on 6" blocks, so I will need many blocks for a good size quilt.

Here are all my vintage blocks so far. I know already I will be making more then one project from this book. I hope to do a quilt but then also a table topper with fruit, lots of red and turquoise.

Also on the machine this weekend is my Tulip quilt. I have not decide how to quilt it so, I load it on the machine and force myself to do it.

Up next will be the kettle block. I am loving my little design boards I made last week. I can cut out the pieces and lay out the fabric. I don't have to remeasure all the little bits because I know what I cut.

Baby Quilt and Guild meeting

This little quilt is done and gifted to the mom to be. It is really a quilt my mom has made and I helped by doing the machine quilting. We love to give a hand made gift to a new baby.

I have added this to Crazy Mom Quilts - Finish it up Friday

The Gold Gold Quilt Patch has been working on Quilts to send to Fort Mcmurry. The whole city of 80,000 forced to leave. Some 2000 houses have been distorted by fire or the left homes unlivable.  Leduc is about 5 hours drive away but we are close as Nuski/Leduc area is a base for the oil patch, so many companies have work sites in both cities. Many workers have family around here. Our Guild thought we would made 100 quilts but already 1 month in we have 210 started and in varying stages. Many still need binding done or machine quilting but WOW, I can not believe what we have been able to got done.

We also did Lotto blocks at the guild meeting. The theme this month was Summer blocks with bright colours. I had the parts to made this block, butterflies and tulips, just had to put it together.

Then I also made a strawberry block. I had this little black seed fabric. I first went looking to make a watermelon but liked this idea better. It would be cute in pink also.

We only had 6 blocks handed in, but I like them. I think we were all so busy making Fort Mac quilts. One of the members is going to take the blocks and add last months block to them and make a Fort Mac quilt with them.

Customers Quilting

I love how the quilting worked out on this quilt. I knew what I wanted to do on this quilt as soon as I saw it. It belongs to one of my customers and he liked my idea. He was also very happy to see it when it was done.

Here is a photos of more of the quilt hanging off the rails.

This is another one I quilted for the same customer. Moose. I outlined the moose and did the back ground area.

Thank you customers for trusting your quilts with me. I love my job.

Here is a close up before it was quilted. I love looking at all the different fabrics.

Scrap Tiles

I had this quilt finished some time ago but never got a good photo of it totally done. Well Yesterday the wind was not blowing 6o km/hr so it was a little easier to take some outdoor photos.

This quilt was mostly sewn with my leftover bits and pieces. I like to call this method Poverty Piecing.  I had a shoe box with partly sewn triangles, strips and some four patches. It has 3 or 4 years worth of past quilt leftovers. I had one quilt that asked for grey and white four patches, But I hated the grey and white in that other quilt. So I picked out the four patches and replaced the grey with Hot Pink. I love the change in the other quilt. I used the grey four patches here and I love how they turned out.

Here is my detail shot. You can see there is all kinds of cotton fabric, bright plaids, strips, batiks, crazy prints like the oranges, and  few hand dyed fabrics. I did an all over large stipple quilting. A nice even stitch.

Today I am finishing up the quilting on a customers quilt and thinking about my packing for Retreat. Mom and I have the Leduc Guild Retreat this weekend. So much fun! I have one new project I am taking to start. Then my Allietare Mystery from Bonnie Hunter. I have not worked on that for a few months and I would like to get a big chunk of that done.

Quilting a Judy Pattern

I have a good customer in Northern Canada that brings me her big beauties for machine quilting. Her name is Elaine Coumont. I got to do this Judy Niemeyer Mariner's Compass quilt. It was done mostly in batiks which is always a treat to work on.
The photo of the over all was not great as every time I went to take a photo the sun was shinning
in and giving it hot spots.

Some more detail shots.

Here is the middle of the star.

I did lots of wiggle quilting and did a ton of thread changes. Elaine was thriller with the work I did on her quilt. Thank You Elaine for trusting me with the work.

Log Cabin Fun

Today I get to show you a beautiful Log Cabin quilt that was inspired by me. One of my customers was in my studio when I had my log cabin blocks up on the wall, a few months ago. I told him about the Kaffet Fasset collection of fabric and the exchange I was doing. While he bought a large stash of fabric and got started on this quilt. He finished his quilt nice and quickly. He is working on the binding to finish it this week. He was planning to donate it to a charity as a fund raiser and it needs to be done before the weekend.
The sun was shining in and making odd hot spots. I wish it showed off a little better.

The two sides of the block have different size logs so that it is a curve.

Here is the back of the quilt. I used dark blue thread and it shows up on the back of the quilt.

Here is my design wall that had inspired my customer. The blocks were apart of a block exchange I did earlier this year. I still have plans to make more blocks. Maybe I should take this project to retreat with me. Who know maybe I could get it done.

Summer Quilting

I have had a very busy week. We have done some fun stuff with the kids but I am trying to keep up with doing some work on customers quilts also. I love Batik fabrics and this quilt was all batiks. So much fun to work with.

My customer loves turquoise and so do I. We of course chose turquoise thread to quilt with.

You can see the machine quilting better here. My customer picked it up last night and love the spirals I did on her quilt. I think it is a gift for someone special.

I have no patchwork of mine to show you this week. I do not think I have done any of my own quilting. Too hot to turn on the iron this past week. We just cooled off with a morning shower. Maybe I will sew later today.

Scrap Quilt

Love the scrap quilts. This is another customers quilt that I was asked to quilt. It is so much fun to look at all the different fabrics used. I have some of these fabrics. I love how much lime green is in this quilt.

She saw my leaves and loops quilting pattern and asked me to do that quilting on hers. I think she was very happy with it.

So nice to give the completed (or almost completed) quilts back to customers.

More flowers in my garden. This white rose is very smelly.

Today my Surface Design Group is off to go shopping for some wool and lunch. We are also going to start to gather plant for some natural dying. We may have to stop on the road sides to gather our weeds. Later this summer and early fall we hope to try natural dying.

Great Customers

I have a few more quilts I have done for my customers that I need to show off. One friend worked last summer do the machine applique on this quilt then left it with me to quilt well she was down south for the winter. So this was done a while back I just forgot to make a post about it.  I just love her work.

Every part of this quilt was so well done. It ways makes my work easy to work on her work.

This side view shows off the quilting a bit better.

I still have so room to do more machine quilting this summer. So if you need a top quilted just let me know.

I have many flowers blooming in my garden. I took a quick photo of my large rocks and wagon wheel. I have a white rose flowering in the back there. It is so smelly. To do not for get to stop and smell the roses today.
