2nd Time Around

2nd Time Around
2018
31" by 34" tall
For Sale $650.00 Canadian
Statement: On a quest to use up scraps, I followed along the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017 on line. January 2017 the colour was turquoise, February was purple, and March was red. I constricted on using my hand dyed fabrics and a few batiks.  As my 2nd piece in the series, I continued to work by adding to the center outward and using what I had.

I had this quilt in the Canadian National Juried Quilt Show this past week. I have been keeping the quilt hidden from the internet because it was also a judged show. I was so happy to get to go see my quilt hang in the show. There were so many beautiful quilts.

Detail photo of the quilt. Most of the fabric was my hand dyed fabric. The red was a red solid that I over dyed to add to the richness of colour. Then I did use a little bit of batik turquoise that was bought.
I love how the colours play so well together.

Paula Rafferty Class

I got to do a Paula Rafferty class for 2 days earlier in May. She was in Edmonton.
I am slowly hand quilting this painted hand dyed fabric. I am using hand dyed thread too.
It will be my background for my collage. I also have some stenciled leaves in gold also on it.
Then I will add my paper bits and more stamped parts.

Retreat Report

I had a great time at quilt retreat this past weekend. This retreat was hosted by my Aunt Arley at the Sunny Side Camp on Sylvan Lake. It started on Thursday afternoon and ran till Sunday noon. I have only ever done retreats that started on Friday. I got lots done with the extra day.

I loved this little quilt. I have Mr Lex in the house so our quilts have dog hair. I cleaned my sewing room yesterday and do not let him in the room but yes I vacuumed up dog hair. Oh lets see who reads this. I went to vacuumed a fly on a quilt block, yesterday. But guess what happened? I vacuumed the block up. A red log cabin from yesterday's post. I hope to get it out of the vacuum tonight. Anyone else ever do that? Or What silly thing do you vacuum up?

As the ladies finished a quilt top they were hung on the rails above.

There was shopping available. Deb brought these metal blocks to sell. Arley had some flannels and notions to sell. Some fabric here and there.  One lady brought a mini quilt shop but No photo.

I took my hand dyed fabric and thread to sell. I did not set it up till after lunch on Saturday. It took up lots of room. There was also the garage sale table (no photo). We donated stuff to the table and if you wanted the stuff you donated cash to the tin jar. It raised money to send a kid or two to camp.

More finished projects on display. Barb made the green runner and the Cherry casa-roll cover. Not sure who made the purse and twisted wall quilt.

We had a gift exchange. This was optional. If you wanted to do it you brought a quilt gift bag worth $25. Then on Saturday after dinner we got a card. Then Arley read out the cards and you found the matching gift. I got a book on free motion machine quilting - one I did not have, and a spool of 17 wt thread to try out. The book has some ideas I have not seen so I will use it. Thanks Deb.

I also found out at least two of the ladies, I had not met, are followers of my blog. Hi ladies.

I have added today's post to Freemotion by the River.

Design Wall Monday Sept 24

Today on my design wall I have got the fixed results of The Ugliest Quilt I have ever made. Back in June I showed you some blocks on my wall that I had sewn together some 10 years or more ago. Then they were put in a box. I got them out thinking This Year I Must Do Something with them. Well I know why they were in the box. It was Ugly. So with my mom' help we have saved it a little.

We found this pale green floral print on sale for $5.00/m Canadian and knew it would help. We used 6 1/2" square of it between the 16 and 4 patches. It did help some. The bad part is, this is only one out of three. We have enough to make three quilt tops like this one. We have other prints to go between the patches.  We are thinking the quilts will go to charity projects our two quilt guilds do.

I have added today's post to Patchwork Times Design Wall Monday, and Manic Monday at Sew Happy Geek.

I have been dying thread again to sell. I have my thread stands refreshed again. A friend (and her friends) are starting some hand projects and need more of my thread. It is great for hand quilting or hand button hole stitch. I have used it in the bobbin of my machine for machine quilting too.

Today I am starting to quilt this quilt for a friend and customer. I am doing squares in Red thread. Should be fun. I thought with the ugly quilt I needed to show something pretty today and this is much better to look at.
