WIP what am I doing?

I have been working on my scraps still for the rainbow scrap challenge. Green spools for the month of April and Blue spools for the month of May. June is Yellow I hope to have some to show you soon. Yes I am a little behind. But I am back. The past two months have been crazy busy with lots of Agility, gardening, long arm quilting, just about everything but sewing for me.

Last month the Canadian Quilters Association CQA had a conference and the National Juried show. My quilt Wed Design 1.0, was in the National Juried Show. Here is a photo of me in front of my quilt. Mom and I and friend Liz had a great time at the show, bought lots of new fabric.
I guess I should get some better finished photos someday. I would love to take it outside and do some on location shots but it is raining and is wet again.

This Saturday the Leduc guild is having a Quilt till you wilt day. Should be good fun. Not sure which quilt I will take to work on. Maybe one of the Bonnie Hunter mystery s I have yet to complete.

I have added this post the linky page over at The Needle and Thread Network WIP.

Now what

Feeling a little uninspired today. I forgot to take any photos but found two from the end of Sept to show today. First up is some hand dyed pink fabric I dyed. I plan to use it on the back of my Spider Web quilt I recently finished. It is 60 " wide Kona Cotton and about 3 m long, Yes a big quilt. This is the fabric right out of the dye pot. I have washed and dried it and it is much lighter now.

My horse looking good.

Friday Finished It

I got the quilt top done for my Spider Web Quilt. I love it. So glad to see it as a quilt top, one goal done for September. I have to make a backing and get it quilted but that may not happen soon. I may quilt it over the Christmas holidays. I got the best photo on my old jump set high. There was more wind then I thought today. To see more about what I did on this quilt check The Link. This quilt top measures 108" by 96" and the quilt is planned for our bed.

This was the best I got on the old hay rack.

Then the next shot this happened. The wind blew it right off and on to the ground. OK guess I am done with hay rack shots in today's wind.

I also got this journal cover done. It uses a piece of the Poverty Piecing I had made last month.

Here is the inside. I have a zippier and pocket so I can put pens or what ever in the pocket.

I have some fabric swatches for my Grandmother's choice block of the week. I am using this book for near the computer and writing things down. My Grandmother always had a little book to write base ball scores and stats down and now my mom and I have a little book. I must be getting old.

Today the Creative Stitches Show was happening. I did a little shopping. I found more of the bright green I was looking for to use in my Grandmother's choice. More orange too. The Indigo Blue is a linen and cotton fabric that I bought. I was thinking of giving it to someone but I may have trouble parting with it. I got a book on Featherweight machines. I have one and want to know more about them. The ribbon or twill tape is a measure tape twill. It looked like I needed some. Not sure what I will use it for.

Design Wall Monday July 30

I have been working on my Forester`s wife (Farmer`s wife is what many of you know them as) Blocks this past week and it was time to see what they look like together. I was doing a sew-a-long but I am so far behind and they are taking a break for July. I also have had fun playing with my own block designs. I did the Blue blocks this Friday and Saturday for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge. These blocks are only 6 inches so I will need so many more before I am done.

Last week I showed you my Spider Web quilt on the design wall. Well I did good and got the first 4 rows (out of 9) all sewn together. Here in the box below, are the next 5 rows. I guess they will be next up on the design wall. I would like this quilt for our new king size bed we got this past month.

Design Wall Monday July23

I started this quilt some time last year and then put it away in two boxes. The design wall was empty so I got it out again.  I really like building blocks but kind of dislike sewing the blocks into rows and making it large and unruly to handle. So in the box it went. I think is was last sept when I got all the blocks built. This is just the first four rows. I have five more rows in the other box. I got this quilt out because I would like a new quilt for our new bed and this one would be big enough.

I was very good to mark all the blocks with a piece of paper to show what block it was. I mark rows and columns with numbers and alphabets. It looks like it works well for me.  I know I took many of the blocks to a guild UFO sewing day, so I needed to transport them. I used 12" papers and stacked the block parts.

The other five rows in the box. I have these plastic boxes I got at Michael's crafts that were sold for scrap book papers and pages. I love them for quilt blocks. They fit a 12 1/2" block so very nicely. This quilt has 72 blocks so I needed two boxes for it. If you want to see more about this quilt please check This out. I guess I need to get it done now.

I have added this to Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times and Sew Happy Geek's Manic Monday

Spider Web Quilt update

I have not done much quilting in the past few weeks. Being away and then my surgery. I am healing and plan to get back to work now (customer quilts today). I have sewn the blocks for one quarter of my spider Web Quilt. They are going together slowly but I am being picky about my points and do not want to lose them. I sewed two together, so far so good. It is great to see what it will look like now.

Also this past week I had to finish my guild challenge and hand it in. I will show you in June after the quilt show. I forgot to take a photo before I handed it in and it is a judged quilt so I do not show them early.

Off to work, Hope you enjoyed Quilt Bee Tuesday.

Spider Web on the Wall

I got some of the pieces of my Spider Web quilt up on the design wall. Wow I am pleased with it. I am using my five hand dyed pink fabrics, they are Kona cotton and feel oh so nice. I dyed the pinks last spring.  In this photo I still need to reach the top bit. This is not even one quarter of the quilt. I have planned bigger now.

I got one block done. Oh no I have a lot of fussy piecing to do. I am taking one block at a time to the machine to sew and I am needing to use many leaders as most start with a point and my machine would eat it other wise. I may need a another project for leaders.
My block is to measure 12 1/2" at this point, close on the first one. My drawing on paper I did, started as a finished 12" square block. My strip pieced units are 6 1/2" (unfinished size) from point to the bottom row. I am fuzzy and do not want to lose my points. The blocks are going to take weeks to piece together. I thought I would make a large lap quilt but now I have decided to go for 96" square. That is 8 by 8 blocks, for a total of 64 blocks.

Lots of cutting has gotten done. I may need a little more to get my 64 blocks.

Here are some cutting demo photos. I first cut a strip 5 1/4" then cut using my star point template on my 22.5 degree ruler. The bottom of the template is lined up to the square corner of the fabric.

I then cut the next one, first cutting the strip at right angle 3 inches from the angle.  The side of this template was 3" for the angled side. I know I am not saying this just right but maybe you will get what I say if you did want to try this block and cut it like I did.

Here I cut the strips that are 6 1/2" wide. I had a couple that were a bit wider and I trimmed them down for easier cutting. The next piece will be cut with the teal on the bottom.

I must tell you I have found out the web quilt my mom did many years ago was not the same angle as this one. Her quilt used hexagons not the eight sides mine has.

I love all your comments Thank You all. Please let me know if you have questions.

I am cutting. I laid this out to see what it is going to look like. I have a long way to go. More sewing more cutting.

New Quilt Started - The Spider Web Quilt

Fabric for my new project The Spider Wed Quilt. I have been playing with it for a week. I am using Batiks and some hand dyed fabric. Batiks and hand dyed quilts are my favorite. I love to work with the tight weaved fabric.

More

I think I may try the four pink hand dyed fabrics for my background colours.

I drew out the block. Now I have pattern pieces and can use my 30 degree ruler I bought so many years ago.

I started cutting strips. I will confess, I started to do the cutting before the fish pond quilt was done. I did not sew, just cutting.

I cut some more. I am now sure I have to much fabric and my quilt is going to be bigger. I was thinking of making a large lap quilt or twin but I think I could make a queen sized quilt. I just love all the fabric I picked out.

I lined up sets of six fabric in rows and piles. Then I sew sew.

I started to get something done this weekend. Look at all these pretty strip sets.
