Rainbow Scrappy Pinwheels

I did some machine quilting on Saturday, one of my quilts. I did loops all over as this baby quilt will get washed lots and it will be lots of quilting to keep it together. I love doing loops for baby quilts. There is so many fun prints in this quilt.

The backing fabric is sheep.

Here is the design wall.

You can check out the Rainbow scrap challenge and see what others are making over at Soscrappy

These blocks have been done for some time, years really. It is just a bit of a bigger box of blocks. I have dug them out because I am stating to think about how I might use them.

My good friend Nadine has been working on her green scraps/ She got this block done, it is called improved 4 patch, Makes her think of 4 leaf clovers.

I had better get going on the green scraps. I have so many and need so many blocks done.

Spring Tulips Finished

Spring is in the air! I have my tulip quilt finished and ready to go in the local quilt show next month. We finally have green grass and a little less mud. I think this has been one of the muddiest springs we have had. I have had tulips in my garden but the gophers have gotten to them and most are gone now. The quilt will have to do.

This quilt pattern is from the book Quilty Fun. I still have many more tulip blocks I can use in another quilt. I made many of the tulip blocks as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over the past few years.

I have added this post to Finish Up Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts

Another photos on a fence rail, this time with the wind behind the quilt. Also behind the quilt is my black lab and the 5 horses in the distance.

I did some fussy machine quilting on the tulip block. Lot of little spirals and some ditch work and then some flowing lines to follow the leaves and tulip petals. It did mean I changed the thread some 30 times or more.

My backing and binding show off here. I had some lighter coloured fabrics that I thought looked good with the front of the quilt.

The wind was a problem for photos today. I took lots and most look like this photo, flapping so badly you can not see the quilt. Yet somehow I like a few of these photos. It makes the quilt come alive.

The quilt show I plan to put this quilt in is the Edmonton and Districts Quilt Guild show.  The Quilt show is June 3rd and 4th at the Central Lions Seniors Centre at 11113-113 Street NW Edmonton. The times are June 3 Saturday 10 am till 5 pm and June 4th Sunday 10 am till 4 pm.

Scrappy Log Cabin Finish

I joined in the Quilt Along over at Ellison Lane Quilts. Today is the day to link up and see the finished quilts on parade.

Under the Christmas tree

I started this quilt in October at the retreat less than a month ago. I did most of my Red, Pink and Blue blocks at retreat.

When I came home from retreat I continued  to sew blocks every couple of evenings. I started to put more fun little bits in the center of my blocks for the Purple, Orange/Yellow and Green blocks.

I machine quilted the whole quilt with a all over spirals. The spirals  are about 3" to 5" in size. I used a primary coloured variegated thread on the front and lime green on the back.

On the Hay Rack

One block has a funny story to tell. I vacuumed  a red block and it got a special ride thought the house's pipes. My husband retrieved it a few days later for me out of the canister. It was very dusty. I had been cleaning my room and a fly had landed on my block so I thought I would get that fly, and got my block too.

I had this really good cream plaid flannel to put on the back. I had the fabric for a few years and was saving it. I had used this on a few other quilt (in different colours) and it has been wearing really well. It is so warm and soft too.

The binding is a rainbow fabric as well.

This little bird house was wanting to be in the photo today when I took my pictures.

The finished quilt measures 80" wide by 60" tall. I have 54 blocks that are 8" finished. And then I did a few blocks that are 4" by 8" so that I could place my blocks in the brick formation (or half drop). I added a 4" of the black and white wavy print. I felt very lucky I had that on hand and there was just enough to fit around the quilt.

Thanks You For hosting the Quilt a long. It has been fun. To see them in process you can also check out the Flicker Group.

I have added this too Crazy Mom Quilts, and Richard and Tanya Quilts LAFF #41

Black and Grey Scrappy Saturday

Today over at Soscrappy is another Scrappy Saturday and this months colours are Black and Grey. I did not think I had so many scraps in this colour but I do have lots. I have a basket full of just Black and White yardage but have worked to keep the scraps down ( I thought). I look in another box or bin. I find more. I have allowed a bit of colour or a bit of white in so it is not to flat or boring. This first block has colour and some white and very little grey.

This block has very little colour but lots more darker grey.

I like that they are different but the same.

These are the spools I did this week as Leaders and Enders, from Bonnie Hunter's challenge. I dyed a black with white dot fabric and made the blue dot fabric some time back. I like it.

I am looking forward to getting back to more colour again. Next month we are to work on putting together some of our rainbow quilts from the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012. I am already looking for ideas for next year. I have ideas for two blocks I might do already. I can also get back to my farmer's wife blocks too.

I need help with ideas here. I have a set of four old chairs that were my Grandmothers. I need to leave the brown wood finish (long story). But the seats need work. I once thought I would rug hook seat cover but my wrist does not like hooking. Now I think I should do some patchwork, but what. My room gets lots of light and fading can be a problem. They are not square so just square or triangle may not look good. Help!

Scrap Saturday - Brown

We are moving to the dark side now. Here in the north that means less sun and more snow - Winter. In Florida it means you can go outside and not be too hot. I got a little hint at the beginning of the week that brown was our colour this month.

I did not think I had much brown, but I found lots to work with. Some are plaids, some or little bits off of bindings. Some are Orange Brown and some are Green Brown. I was busy working on finishing last weeks pumpkins and I did not sew any brown yet.

I found this block in my brown scraps. I think is was a block I made for a class demo some 15 years ago. Before Children.

This Block, I made last November when I joined up The Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012. It was the start of lots of Rainbow creations. I will do a second brown block for this quilt.

I will have to link up late on Saturday with Soscrappy, I am out the door early today. Mr Lex and I are going to an Agility Trial again today. I am to wear crazy pants but I do not have any.
Late day Edit. Lex and I passed two of four classes today in Agility. Very pleased with my boy. One of our classes was a steeplechase that is a Master type class.  It was the first time we passed that type of class. Lex and I are resting now.

Scrap Saturday

I got in my sewing on Friday night after a very busy week. This is a second orange block for my rainbow quilt. I have something like 21 blocks done so far. I love the poke-a-dot fabric that has the yellow background but is strong enough to be in my oranges. Over at Soscrappy you can check out what the others are doing with orange or pumpkin. You can also go see what others were sewing on Friday Night Sew In.

I got some poverty piecing done. Not sure what to do with some of these pieces.

I thought I would show off my sewing machine that I used last night. My uncle David found a featherweight for me a few years back. My table is a bright pumpkin colour too. Do you see my sweet peas. They were so sweet smelling. Better then the smell coming from my husband last night. Sorry Honey. And thank you for the Birthday Cheese cake.

So far a very productive month of pumpkin. More Hexies got done over the week too. I have 16 orange flowers now. I am wondering if a should applique them to some pants.  I have a dog agility trial on Oct 6th and the theme is crazy pants. Mine might be too nice to be called crazy.

Today Mr Lex (the Dog) and I are at a dog agility trial early. I will let you know how it goes.

Scrap Saturday Pumpkin

I have a little more to show for Scrap Saturday. I have been working on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012 all year. Hard to believe we are in the home stretch for the year, three and a half months left. I am going to do more next year too. I just love working on different blocks each month.  I still need one more of these 12 inch blocks in orange before the month is up.

Here are 9 orange hexagon flowers done so far. I only started to make these last month in the turquoise. I guess you could say I have more work to do on these. I am thinking I will appliqué these to a base but I am not sure what or how I will use them.

The spools are part of the Leaders and Ends Challenge that Bonnie Hunter put out around Aug 20th last month. I love these little 3 inch spools. I did get a few more done this week.

All my orange so far this month. I have added this post to Soscrappy linky party, go see the other orange going on this month.

I picked these last night just before supper. Good thing we got frost last night. I was not excepting frost and did not pick or cover my tomatoes next to the house, we will see if I will get damage or not. Do you see the big kid on the lawn tractor in the far background. Crazy grass keeps growing, maybe the frost will slow it down.

Rainbow Place Mat Binding

I have got a start on my bind for this little place mat. I am trying out the new binder clips I won from Kathy's Quilts. I have added today's post to Slow Sunday Stitching at Kathy's.

Here is the front before the binding went on. It is quilted with the little pebbles.

And the back again because it is so cute on the back.

Scrap Saturday Aqua

I found out last night that the new colour for this months Rainbow Scrap Challenge  is Aqua or Turquoise or the lighter blues. Good thing, the scraps for blue were just to big to be one month. I quickly got one block done to show you. I would call this block Aqua as it is almost a green and not a blue. I just love this colour. My Mom did a storm at sea quilt in these colours a few years back and it is on her bed as her summer quilt. Sorry no photo maybe next week I will get a picture. For more rainbow goodness check out Soscrappy.

I stopped by a quilt buddy's today and her Husband gave me one of his Ruler stands. Can you believe I have done without one of these all these years. When I first saw them I had my rulers hanging on a board next to my cutting table. Now that does not work because I have a higher table and the rulers do not hang down correctly. Thanks Ernie

Blue Scrappy Saturday

The third Blue Scrappy Saturday this month and I did more rainbow blocks. I have linked this post up with Soscrappy. For these two blocks I tried to use more of the turquoise Blues and kept out the ultramarine and navy blues. It was harder to get some contrast. I think next to work on for my blue scraps, I should work on my farmer's wife blocks. It feels like forever since I did any of them.

This week I have not done much sewing. My husband has had the week off and we have been doing a bunch of family stuff, including riding the horses. The house has still felt warm and I have been dreading plugging in the iron and getting to warm. Maybe later today I will sew.

Design Wall Monday July 9th

Not much quilting the last few days, but I did put these blocks up to see how they were looking. I am loving it. I will have to wait another three weeks to see what colour we are using next in the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012. This month we are working on our blue scraps. I have lots still to do with blue and may need a new project as there are so many blue scraps.

I really like these two blocks and the blue pin wheels I made this past week.

Today I am to finish machine quilting this little beauty. I am close to being done and then I can move on to the next quilt. The next one is very big with lots of feather work so I will be a while with it.

I have some rose buds opening up. This is a short rose that does not need to be staked and is in the rocks behind my water fall. Just glad I do not need to weed around this thorny rose. It has big thorns and would be hard to get under it.

Saturday Scrappy Blues

Scrappy Saturday this month, we work on the blue scraps. I love blue. I have lots of blue scraps. If I was to make a two colour quilt it would need to be blue. I just love these little blue pin wheels.  I got digging in some real old fabric for these blocks. Some of the navy and the real light coloured blues are from back when I worked at a fabric store in Leduc, maybe 15 years ago.

I used some of the smallest bits in the centre block. I just sewed some light coloured to light and dark to dark and then jointed the little rows together. I really did not plan it. To see more on this quilt you can go back to this post.

I have added today`s post to Soscrappy and if you want more information on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012, go see.

I did not have internet for a few days this week. We had real bad winds. This is one of three trees that came down on my drive way. My husband was away and I had to get a neighbour help move the trees. We also have a building to repair as the winds blow out a wall to our horse shelter.

These are the wild roses on the drive way. We have hundreds lining the drive way. Sometimes you have to stop and smell the roses.
