Easy Street

Easy Street is the Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt from the fall of 2012. I am continuing to show you my past Mystery quilts.
I got this quilt done in 2016. I started out with all Bonnie's colours but then my Grey 4 patches were yuck. I had used a light to Medium grey and it just blended with my white prints. I took them out. I think I had 5 or 6 blocks done with the grey.
I added the pink instead.
WOW what a great change.

Love this quilt. So glad I made the change.

I ended up using the grey 4 patches in another quilt. See how good they look here. Love how the 4 patches worked well here. I made this quilt with all kinds of left over patches form quilts.

With just one day till the clue is out, I have picked out my fabric. I am taking out the orange and putting in Pink. I love the Blue Green and Red together.

You can see I have a few fabrics with cute stuff. Pink fish, Blue bones, Green with more dog stuff and the bunnies on Red. I think I will be happy with this little change. Not sure I wanted that much orange in a quilt.

So one more day till Bonnie release clue #1 of the  Good Fortune.

Mystery History

This is my Allietare Mystery (2015) so far. I have a small handful of blocks done. I thought as Bonnie Hunter has released the fabric requirements for her next Mystery quilt En Provence (2016) that maybe I better work on the last one. I get eager to start a new quilt but I have quilt guilt that I did not finish the last one and I want to sew! So I am digging it out and hope to get more done. You can see I made a lot of changes to the colours. Now this years mystery has so many of the colours I used here (no Yellow).

Quilt guilt has kept me from pulling fabric out for En Provence. I love the colours she has picked out so far, so I am sure I will do it with the rest of the Bonnie Hunter Fans. I have a big enough stash and love the colours so I do not think I need to shop for more. Maybe next week I will pull fabric.

I have started 5 of her mysteries and many are UFO but one. I have one fully complete - Easy Street (2013). I did change the colour just a bit. I used pink instead of the grey. My grey was too light and I really do not like Grey. I am so much happier with this quilt.

Grand Illusion (2014) is a quilt top that needs to be quilted. I made another change and used a magenta print in the center of the blocks and not the yellow and blue four patch units. I think I like they way the block is a more striking. I had to do some ripping to fix that as I had half the blocks done when I changed my mind.

Celtic Solstice (2011) has all the blocks done but needs to be a top. I really changed the colours around. I used the black as my neutral. I started to work on the rows and got lost so I have some ripping to do to fix it. So it is back in the box and needs help.

Orca Bay (2010) is a top but needs the boarders pieced and put on. It is also in a box waiting. This quilt is a ton of little bits and pieces.

Easy Street

I got a good finished photo of my Easy Street. This was a Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt from November of 2012 I think. I have gone back to my early photos and that was when I think we started it. I never get the top done till months later. Then the top sits in line waiting to be quilted. We all know the last quilts done belong to the long arm quilter that quilts for hire. We always have so many more to do first.

I had started this quilt with the suggested Gray four patches. But I did not like it. So I replaced the grey and made the four patches with Bright pink, now it feels like a quilt I would make. I love these colours. So happy it is done. It measures 96" square. I have quilted it with feathers ll over it.

I got the block together at retreat the fall of 2013. That is my mom sewing just below the top.

I was going to add it to   Crazy Mom Quilts but I am too late. Maybe next time.

No Wining

So I have been working on my Celtic Solstice Mystery quilt step 1. It is a Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt. You can find out about it on Quiltville
This photo is from Saturday night. I sewed and was having a few drinks as I sewed. Well it did not go all well. I spilt my Wine. I kind of made a bit of a mess. I reached for my pins and the taller wine glass fell over. It was White, so I just ironed it dry.

I got my Easy Street Quilt top done. This was last years Bonnie Hunter Mystery from last year. I got the top done before I started the next one.
Do you see the one patch I have to fix?

I hope to get it quilted early in the New Year. I am a little busy doing customers Quilts right now.

Here are my Celtic Solstice Mystery patches. So far so good. I am using the black as my Neutral, Blue were Bonnie said Blue and Pink batik were Bonnie has Orange. I just love some of these Batiks. So bright and clear.
Oh Yes, Bonnie has a linky page, to see more Go Here. Others mystery quilters have shown off their work.

Retreat Fall 2013

Here is my Easy Street quilt top hanging from the railing at retreat. The lady in green is my mom, Betty. I had all the blocks done before but took them to retreat and got them together. I still need to do the boarders. But it is getting closer to being done. I hope to get the boarders on before Bonnie Hunter's next mystery quilt that starts in November. I am planning to do the next again this year.

Here is a photo of the room. I believe there were 37 of us this year. It is run by my Aunt Arley and held at Sunnyside Camp on Sylvan Lake.

I broke my special seam ripper, dropped it on the floor. I left it in the garbage can.  I will have to make a new ripper. I feel I am short a seam ripper even though I dug out a cheap one. Not the same as the one I had.

Design Wall Monday April 6th

I found my sitting dog pattern. I designed this paper piece pattern many years ago and wanted to remake the dog. I am planning a binder cover for my dog journal. Lex is a Brown Chesapeake Bay Retriever. I have been busy with the a one line dog training course and they tell us we should journal every day about our work with the dog. I want a fancy cover for my binder.

On the right is an old block that is needed in a UFO quilt. I have the old UFO quilt mostly designed but not sewn together. I did not want to just steel the block. Now the new dog will face the opening of the binder.

Judy over at Patchwork Times hosts Design Wall Monday. I have added today's post to her linky party.

I have also been working on my Easy Street blocks. But I quickly ran out of the four patches. I changed them from grey to pink and I thought I had made enough ( the stack of square looked big enough) well I needed 68 more. I just did not make enough. Also had to cut more lime green squares. I must of only made half the number of required units on some steps. What was I thinking. I hope that is all I am short of.

WIP Wednesday

I have been working on my Easy Street mystery quilt this week. I had a UFO sewing day with the Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch on Monday. I had these blocks done a few months back but I really did not like the Grey four patches and I changed them to pink four patches. Big improvement, I am much happier with the pink.

The wall also has my orange Sprout blocks on the left. On the bottom right is my Around About. Both of these are part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013 that I have been following along. One the bottom left you can see the red and green project, that is a Christmas table runner I have quilted it but need to trim and bind still. I did not get it done for Christmas but maybe I can get it done in time of one of the guild quilt shows and the next Christmas.

Here is my box of patches that still need to be sewn into blocks. I have all the out triangles done but need to complete 21 more blocks. If you want to see more about the Easy Street Mystery go see the pattern on Bonnie Hunter's Quiltville site. The pattern is only going to be there for a few more weeks, as she will take it down and publish the pattern in her next book.

I have 7 orchid plants flowering now and two more about to pop. This is just one of the plants flowering and it is so perfect today. I hope spring hurries up, it is very much winter here today with blowing snow and drifting. Tonight is the Edmonton guild meeting and I am wondering if I should be out driving in the dark.

Now back to more machine quilting for my customers. I have a few deadlines for quilts this month.

I have linked today's post with Freshly Pieced and Needle and Thread Network

Plans for the week

Lily pad I am needle felting

I am home from my dog trial. We did not get any passes but maybe we got the biggest laugh of the day. Lex was up on the A frame and spotted his green stick toy and raced down over two jumps and the ring fence to retrieve his toy. It was kind of cute but we had a incomplete run. We had a few really good parts and some wrong moves in every go today. It was fun and that was Why we do it.

Monday is a UFO stitch day at the Leduc Quilt guild. I am looking forward to going to that. So I worked on Saturday, quilting, so I could take Monday off. I think I will take my Easy Street Mystery from Bonnie Hunter. I have lots left to do.

The lily pad is for a project I hope to finish soon. Then maybe I can show you more.

Design Wall Monday Easy Street

I have been able to keep up with the Bonnie Hunter Mystery Easy Street even if I did not post much the past few weeks. To see the Monday Linky party that Bonnie is hosting Click Here. I know there are a few in other colours. I just love the colours she used and was not going to change it. I now wish my grey was darker. It would show off the chain running thought the quilt better. My aunt used very different colours and used Black not grey. So her chain really shows. Her web site is Smiley Quilter. Seeing my aunts quilt makes me what to change my four patches all to black and not grey. What do you think? Should I fix it? It is a small fix and I would not have too many blocks to unpick to get it fixed.

I have also added today's post to Judy's Design Wall Monday Linky Party.

I am still machine quilting my show quilt. I plan to get it done and photos done so I can enter it in the Canadian National Juried show. I have to get my entry in the mail no later than Friday. I will be doing tons of hand stitching tonight and the next two days. I can not show you the quilt till I know if it got in or not. Sorry.

Pink Scrappy Saturday

Happy New Year everyone. Today is the first Saturday of the Rainbow Scrappy Challenge for 2013 over at Soscrappy. I am jumping in and doing the Rainbow Scrap Challenge again this year. I just love it. This month our first colour to work with is PINK. I got my scraps sorted well last year and I have to keep on top of it again this year.

This past week I just spent a little time cutting and preparing kits for some Pink spools (to the left) then I have a block in mind that needs 2" squares and Triangle so the stacks on the right are sorted out with that in mind. So far I have not sewn any patches yet.

I have been very busy this week. We cleaned many parts of the house and took bottles back, a load to good will and a load to the dump today. We still have more to get out of the house. I also have been machine quilting my entry for the Canadian National Juried Show. A photo and entry is due very soon. I hope to be done the machine quilting on Sunday and start the binding by Monday and be ready to take photos by Thursday at the latest. Sorry I can not show you.

I have also been working on the Easy Street Mystery with Bonnie Hunter. I just had to do it. I love the colours that she was using this year. Here are my piles of yardage.

And here is the box with all my units done. I got this far by New Years Eve and was able to sew a little more. There is a link on Monday to show off how far we all got. I will have some blocks done to show off.

Easy Street Started

I have started Bonnie Hunter's Easy Street Mystery quilt. I did Orca Bay last year but it is not finished yet. I hope to work on Easy Street and finish my Orca bay over the next year. These are the four patches using 2" strips of fabric. I love these little squares. I believe I got 200 done, a few extras in case I lose some.

I have linked up to Bonnie's Easy Street Linky Page and Patchwork Times Design Wall Monday.

I also have my second table runner top done. The top one is not quilted yet. But I can give the finished one away this weekend at the dog trial and know I can keep the other one. I am very very close to running out of the green. I believe I have enough to finish the binding for the second one then that will be it for the green.

Talking about dog Trials, I thought I would go to Regionals for the Agility Associations of Canada (AAC) this June 2013. While I planned to go but the good news is it will be close to home. Yes! Then I found out Nationals will be in Leduc (Aug 1-4,2013) my town, on the soccer fields were my boys play soccer. I want to qualify now for Nationals. If I do not make it I will  help and watch good dogs. But I never dreamed of going to Nationals, thought it would be out east this year. I can hardly believe I have a small chance of going to Nationals. I just started competing last year.
