Guild Blocks

Four little blocks for the Leduc Guild Shoe box Exchange. I got these done last week just before our monthly meeting. I almost forgot to get them done. Good thing they were pretty simple blocks to do. I think they took my 1 hour. The Shaggy black KFC fabric was to be used and they we were to add one print to the blocks. We started by cutting a 10" square of the 2 fabrics. It then gave us 2 blocks. I used my KFC Fabrics. I got them handed in and took another shoe box to work on.

Also the Leduc guild has been working on these blocks for a raffle quilt. They are taking sometime to do. There is still another step to do. It is a mitered log cabin that you do not do the normal log cabin building. Two red strip sets will be sewn together to make 2 triangles. There was a shortage of red blocks done so I brought home some red, added to the red strings and got 6 done.

One green block done and was used as a demo block at the guild meeting. I did not make this block, not sure who did. But it gives you the idea of what we are doing.

School Raffle Quilt

Bloggers Quilt Festival Fall 2012 is happening now. I thought I would show off the Grandmother square quilt that me and my mom, Betty and Aunt Myrna did together.  We started this quilt over a year ago and got it finished this summer. Betty and Myrna did the piecing and consulted with me on many occasions. We had a great time shopping for all the fabric. We had two major shopping trips. Then Betty and Myrna worked on the top. I quilted a runner for Myrna to try out the quilting and then did the bigger quilt this summer.

We made this quilt to donate for a raffle. The little one room school my dad and his brothers went to is now a community hall and is in need of a new roof. We have made this as a thank you for the years the boys went to school. They all three continued on to University.

We used mostly civil war reproduction fabrics and a Moda fabric in brown for  background and sashings. I used feathers on each of the blocks. and a feather on the outer pieced boarder. There is a little filler quilting on the brown.

2nd Brown Scrap Saturday

I am at retreat this weekend with my Aunt Arley and Mom. I have this brown quilt to share with you. My mom, Betty and my aunt, Myrna made this quilt top and I did the machine quilting. It is a granny square quilt. It is big something like 86" square.  As this month Scrap Saturday is Brown, I thought it was a good time to show you this beauty. The quilt has been donated to be raffled off this year. The Little Red Deer School (now a community hall ) needs a new roof. Our hope is the ladies of the local WI sell enough tickets that it covers the cost of the new roof. They are selling 400 tickets for $20 each. Just so you know I can not mail out tickets outside of Alberta.

The three of us ladies made the quilt as a thank you for the years my Dad and his brothers went to the one room school. My dad rode a horse to the school, up hill both ways you know. His banana and peanut butter sandwiches were frozen still at lunch time.

Most of the fabrics are civil war reproduction fabrics.

I quilted it with feathers on all the squares.

You can go see what the other ladies are doing for Brown this month by checking out Soscrappy.
