Hawaii Quilt Top Done

Hawaii Quilt

I am on a roll. I got another quilt top done this week. That is 3 quilt tops in 3 weeks!
The blocks have been done for over a year but getting the blocks together is one of the hardest parts for me. I love to build smaller blocks and I am not a fan of putting the blocks together. You know keeping them in order and ironing long seams.

Hooray, I got the top done!

I got some super cute fabrics back in 2011, when we last went to Hawaii. I wanted a Hawaii quilt. I have been 6 times. I hope we can go again someday.

I even took a photo before I started to cut into them.

I took the dog out with me. This one caught her off guard. She was sniffing near the base of the quilt when the wind blow it up and over her.

Dog and quilt looking good together.

The wind was a problem today. I took close to 50 shots but most look like this, Folded over quilt in the wild wind. We have been warmer and there is mud every where, so placing the quilt on the ground was not an option today. Also I have to have a row and half over the rail or it was blowing on the ground. So my quilt is longer 6 rows long and 5 wide.

I plan to get this one quilted in time for a local quilt show.

I will dream of the Hawaii waves under this quilt someday.

1st of the Fort McMurray Quilts

The Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch has been working on Quits to send to people from Fort McMurray. Many homes were lost in the wild fires and people are still not back to town to see if their homes. Many know if they lost everything. This is one that I started a little over a week ago. I just got the machine quilting done today. It is ready for the binding, I am hoping my mom will do that for me. The binding will be the dark plaid fabric.

The Black Gold Quilt Patch guild did a big weekend work bee. I got the cute owl fabric and the background colour from the donation table. I then donated many of the other cute prints from my Hawaii fabrics and the batting. The backing fabric was donated from the Purple Katz Quilt Shop. They gave the guild a lot of large backings. There were many shops who gave us fabric to use but I do not know who all did. The Executive Royal Inn in Nisku let the guild use one of the rooms for 4 days so we could work together and get many quilts done. We were hoping to get 100 done and so far we passed that number. I know my mom and I are working on 3 together and this is the closest one to being done.

Here is the lay out I did just before I started to put the rows together.

Gemma and I got our Agility Dog of Canada with the Agility Assignation of Canada since I last posted. Our first big ribbon. Our judge was Meaghan O'Neil and it was her first time to give out a title as a new judge.

Design Wall Monday

It is Design Wall Monday check out the others over at Patchwork Times. I was planning to do about 40 DW Mondays this year but I think I am falling behind and can not make 40 weeks now. I think it is because I post on Saturday about my Rainbow Scrap Challenge and often do not get anything new done by Monday. Well On Saturday night I was going to sew more on my 3D blocks for the neutral scraps, but the big iron surface was messy. I decided not to start by cleaning. I wanted to work on blocks and not on rows or a whole quilt top. So out came the Hawaii fabric. I got five more blocks done. The five on the right are the new blocks.

I just love some of these mini prints that still have the Hawaii theme to them.  I am starting to think about how I will put my blocks together. Not sure. I am not a big fan of sashing but that might be what is needed. I thought white sashing but then I used some white already in two of the first blocks. Maybe I will replace that white with another colour and then the white could be used for sashing. What do you think?

Lots going on this week. The Edmonton Guild meeting is on Wednesday night and then on the weekend is a two day class with Pamela Allen. I was the one how asked that we bring her in to teach. I have lots of machine quilting to do this week too. I keep forgetting to ask my customers if I can post photos of their quilts so I can not show you. I think it is very important to ask them first before I post photos.

We got through the big sleep over party. Most of the kids did not look too tried when it was time to go home. I think they got about 6 hour sleep.

Design Wall Monday #8 and Hat

Last March we went to Hawaii for two weeks. It was a great holiday. I bought a small stack of Hawaiian prints and want to make a simple quilt with the fabrics. I got a few blocks started- six so far. I am thinking I will use White sashing. I like the four patch angle blocks, I will have to do more of those blocks. I am mixing in some Kona cottons solids with the Prints. A good little start. I have added this to Patchwork Time's Design Wall Monday, check out the other work going on this week.

My hat is dry. Last Friday me and friends worked on our wool felted hats. Check out Saturday's  Post to see how we did it. We were to get more snow today but it was a dusting. I may still need this hat this spring.

I got my kids to take my photo. Not great photos but you get the idea.

Outside you can see a bit more of the texture. I had some locks that were not carded and they all over the outside of the hat. Now I need a scarf to match as I lost my blue one after two weeks.
