Socks Finished

Every winter I slowly work on hand knitted wool socks. I got this pair done recently. I can now wear them but it is to be warm for a few days. Maybe Monday as it is to get cooler again.

Here they are on my feet.

When I looked at this pair, they had just one toe to finish up and tuck away the ends. I think I started them back in 2016. So I guess last year I did not really finish any socks.

The yarn pattern was not a real match up. But they were the same lot number.

I have more socks started again. Also I have some I need to repair. I always put holes in the ball of the toes. Sometimes I can redo the toe but then the heals go in just a few more wears. Some very old ones I am using new wool and knitting new feet. the angle does not wear out.

I have added this to Confessions of a fabric addict.

Orca Bay Top Done

I have been working on Bonnie Hunter mystery quilts for years. Yesterday I got all caught up on the  last step of Good Forture

So what was I to do?

I got out Orca Bay today and got the top done.
First Finish of the year. Now to put it in the list for machine quilting.

Here is a little more of the detail. The corner is pinned and pulling a bit.

I also did a little bit of Cleaning. I sorted out all my zippers. Oopps I have a few zippers. I would like to get them hung up some where. Thinking of what I can do to hang them.

Rainbow Top

Rainbow quilt top is finally done. I keep thinking I will get a better outdoor photos but we have a snow mud mix outside (snow today). The quilt is large and takes up all of my design wall.

Here I was looking at what I could use for a sashing and a boarder. I interviewed nine patches in all the rainbow colours. Kind of OK for sashing but maybe too thick and large. The triangles for a boarder was OK too but the angles just did not do it for me when the blocks were so square. I was liking the fine strip of printed Rainbow fabric.

I did one rainbow strip set and hung up, Yes piano key boarder was more what I was looking for.

The blocks are together in this photo and I am double checking the strip sets for the piano keys.

I looked back and some of the blocks were made back in 2013.

Pink and lime green.

Green blocks, also found in the 2013 photos.

I will add this post to Socrappy and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday and Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Cotton Candy and other Sweets

Finished up the Cotton Candy Quilt top. The pattern is from Bonnie Hunter's book String Fling and is the last one in the book. I just love it. I have used all batik and hand dyed fabrics. Some are also hand done batiks by me. Those are extra special. I am planning to keep this quilt for me in the living room. I have loved working on this quilt because I love so many of the fabrics.

I have added this post to the linky party Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

I have started a new quilt. Yes another on in the list. I won a layer cake a few years back and had not done anything with it. Then I found more of the same fabric on sale for $6.00/m so I bought some more, enough I might also have the backing, binding and a boarder. I am using this simple block. I also did add in just a bit more lime green, te pack had some but not much so I have added a few fabrics not in the same line. It should work well.

I love the pink bird fabric.

I have been busy. So busy I have had trouble getting back to my blog, sorry. So last night I was teaching another quilt class. Many Trips Around the World. The photo is from 2014 when I last lead the class for the Leduc guild. This Saturday me and my students will be back at class. We are having so much fun.

Friday's Wallet Finished

Last week I bought this pattern and at the Red Deer Quilt show I got some of the notions I needed to get started. Wow look at me, I got it done. I think Thursday I pulled the fabrics from my hand dyed fabrics. I thought this purple marbled fabric needed a special place. I love the bright pink framing it.

Inside I used another purple and the pink again. I have card holders. Lots of pockets and one zipper pocket perfect for change. The pattern is from Emmaline bags

Here are the fabrics, so you see I could still make more. I did make a second front flap just to see which one to use. The all Mable fabric flap is also got more stiff peltex so might work well over time.

This wood deck was covered in snow earlier today. Yes we had snow again. The snow has never really left us for 6 months. I can't wait for a real spring. The sun is nice but I want warm no coat kind of weather.

Inside photos and colour is just not showing off as well.

Last night I got the latch part done. Wow that was new experience. 3 Tiny screws luckily the kit had an extra screws as one is lost on the floor. Cutting into my fabric and using glue. Well I got it done and it works well. Looks good too.

All parts cut and have the interfacing in place. Now to think about the next one. Not sure what colours for the new wallet. I might change a few things next time.

Indigo Hand Bag

For A Friday Finish I have completed my Indigo Hand Bag. I just love it.
It goes so well with my new Spring Jacket

I used the basic MoJo Pattern from Sew Like a Rock Star. I made the same width as the pattern but made this one taller 13".

Shibori indigo hand dyed fabric was used on the inside. With the metal frame in place, the bag opens up so nice a wide.

I have added pockets on both sides.

You can see the hand stitching I did on the close up shot. Made a post about the hand stitching Here and picking out my fabric back Here

One half with the handles before I started the bag assembly.
I used Chicago screws to attach the leather hands. You can also see the bottom of the bag is reused jean fabric.

Here is the back side of the out fabric, you can see I also added a small rectangle of thicker interfacing to add more firmness to the handle area. The screws are 1/4" but needed something more to feel right.

The bag just before I placed the
metal frame inside. Not a bad looking bag but it is so much nicer with the metal frame inside.

The cute Red print with flowers was used for my zipper tabs.

The other side. On Sew Like a Rock Star, Sally has the best ever video of how to do the zipper tabs. How to fussy cut and sew this just perfect. I do not think I will ever mess these up and they are just a great detail.

Spring Jacket

One week to get my new Spring jean jacket done. I love how the Tim Holtz fabrics went with denim. I really liked the Blue Tailor fabric as it is so close to denim.

Look what I did for a hem, I used the waist of the old jeans. I was able to match up the button and button whole. Love how the belt loops come up and attach to the patchwork. It was so worth it to use old jeans.

I finished the jacket off with old Brass buttons. The top one is a horse head button I got in Huston in 1999. The others are all a little different.

Picking out buttons for the jacket was a big deal. I got out many different buttons, here is my black and white glass buttons. I did not like the all black ones, too dark. Also white was not great either.

I got laying out the different styles on the front. I was starting to think the blue grey shell ones where a winner. How ever.

The brass one won out. Sorry kind of a dark photos, the sunlight was fading.

Details

For the back of the jacket, I used 2 legs of old Levi jeans. The sleeves were cut from one leg of a second pair of jeans. The old recycled jean fabric is so soft.  See how the waist runs around to the back of the jacket too.

The lining of the front part is a indigo shibori dyed fabric I made some years ago. I like to put a surprise inside my jackets.

Now if it would warm up for spring I could wear my Jacket.

Bionic Gear Bag for mom

Finished another Bionic Gear Bag, this time it is for my mom. I told her I would make one for her and plan to give it to her for Mother's Day, I guess I am early this year. I am sure she will love it.

For mom's bag I have added some special zipper charms. 3 of the charms are made from scrabble tiles, a B, an M, and then Donald Duck. Dad's name is Donald. Then a photo transfer of my dad about 3 yrs old sitting on an old Ford car. I had made some photo transfer charms a few years back and this was an extra.

You can see I made this bag Bright! I am very happy with the family of bright colours. I have added 2 vinyl pockets, one in front of the orange pocket and one in front of the first pocket. She can put paper note in the large vinyl pocket and maybe needle packs in the front one.

This bag is also larger than the original pattern. I have made the bag 12" wide not the 9" as in the pattern. I also added a stiff bottom in the lining so it does not fold in the middle. I got the pattern over at Sew Like a Rock Star. I love her patterns they are so worth it. I joined the site and bought this pattern and the mother load bag. There are so many great videos. I love to watch the videos and seeing how fussy I can get. The Facebook group site has some other good ideas from the members.

Here is the all zipped up photo. I am also very close to finishing up my bag too. I still have some hand stitching down the binding.

Blue Spirals

Blue Spirals is a quilt top!

I am very happy to get this one a step closer to being done. In January, I worked on Blue blocks for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2018
I think I will keep is this size and use it as a baby quilt.

Here is a closer look at a block. It is a log cabin based blocks. I received a block like this from a block exchange. I love it and wanted to make some myself. It used up all kinds of Blue strip that were 1 1/2" wide. I did have to cut a few light blue ones that were longer, as you need the longer strips at the end of the block building.

I have added this post to Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict

I am working on another bag. It is a Bionic Gear Bag from Sew Like a Rock Star. I am hoping to get this one closer to being done this weekend. I sold one of my bags to a local friend. So I need a replacement bag now. I also want to make one for my mom too.

I showed a bag I made from Sew Like a Rock Star last week. I had the rudest comment.
Why?
Why does anyone waste time to put others down?

I will be blog hopping this weekend and commenting on the projects I like.
 Hope you like my projects.
