Gardening

We have had some real heat in the past 10 days or so. Once in a while we have had some gentle rain. Tuesday just north of us there was some heavy rain and hail that distorted some gardens and flooded basements and streets. We did not get that storm. But it made me think I should get outside and take some photos of my flowers in case we get a hail storm. So late on Saturday I got clicking away, I planned to make a post Sunday but our internet was down all day. Today I finally get to show off my flowers.

My Giant Blue Delphinium are about 6 and half feet tall now. They are about a foot taller then me. I have at least six different colours in the flower bed next to the deck.

The roses will soon come to an end. They are fully open in this heat.

Day lilies are starting to bloom. This orange one is a big old plant I got from the yard (house) my Brother once had.

Here is the pond. It has a few tall plant next to it. I have four fish enjoying their summer home. I bring them in for the winter. In the far back of the photo is my Veggy garden.

Weeds more then Garden

I wanted to show off my Garden. See how large my Delphinium are. I think they are as tall as me now. Any day they will open up to a forest of blue and purple. The are so tall the weeds have no chance. I made today`s post in part because Kathy (Over at Kathy Quilt`s) and I were talking about her bunnies and the weeds. I said I was needing to weed before I took any photos. She said please make a post before you weed. Let the rest of of know you too have weeds. Well it is bad in some parts. Here you go Kathy. My other friend Kathy S will get a kick out of it too.

Here is my pond. Not bad looking but if you knew the foreground of grass is all weeds. It is not to have all that grass but only wood chips. I need to get my boys to help pull out the grass. It pulls out easy because of the wood chips. But it still has to be done.

This flower bed is the worst. It has many perennials in it and they are flowering but the grass weeds have taken over it very very badly.   I may have to totally dig it up and start over.

Out in the veggy garden I have some spinach ( and a few weeds). I have a fence around the veggy garden to keep my dog from eating it before we do. As a puppy he learned to dig carrots. He likes peas and I am sure he could make a mess in minutes. The fence helps keep the deer and bunnies away. My dad has trouble with rabbits and deer eating his garden ( no fence).

Some Butter Crunch Lettuce and more weeds. I have peas, beets, potatoes, and carrots too. The beans hardly germinated.   Not sure there will be many of them.

Design Wall Monday June 4th

One design wall has the lady bug mystery on it. I have decided to use this red dot fabric for the outer boarder. I had a red with large Black dots picked out and cut but my Mom said "Yuck". I then dug out many fabrics, Black with blue dots, red with smaller dots, Black with white dots but it was random dots and did not work. I had to get more of the red and white dot and it is being washed now. Them I can sew on the final boarder and add this quilt to the pile of tops I have.

Orca Bay Mystery is off to the side still. I have added this to Patchwork Times. You can see more design walls with work under way.

I have all the string units done for RRCB. This is a big milestone on this quilt. I have the 60 string units cut and ready to sew in to a block or triangle unit. If you want to know more about what RRCB is check out the label on my side bar.

This is just a start. I have sewn the first block together. But I do not have quit all the units done and have lots of sewing to get these blocks done. You know what I will be working on this week.

I got my flowers planned yesterday and my husband has the riding ring in good shape. I thought I would show it today. Now to ride the ponies some more. We have a few trail rides planned this year.

I also let the fish outside in the pond. I have trouble wintering my fish outside, my pond is not deep enough to keep it from freezing solid. So for the winter I bring them in to the basement in a horse water trough. I let them get use-to  the cooler outside water temperature. They sat in the tub for about four hours and them we let them lose. They swim around like crazy checking out the new place.

Here is the pond. I have a few more plants to go in the pond and plans to buy some floating plants. It will look better in a few days. So glad to have a green yard again.

Spring Is Here

I did some gardening today, so it must be spring. Here is the pond and rock garden area. Take a note at the trees in the far back. The leaves are trying to burst out. In three days they will be fully out. I love living in the country were we are so much more aware of the changing seasons. I got a few lily bulbs in the ground and some weeding done.

I have also put out some new wooden disks for stepping stones. They were left overs from my husbands work in forestry. He brought some disks home to burn in the fireplace but I am using some of the large ones for stepping stone. The one on the right has been outside for two years. The two on the left were from the same tree and the rings say the tree was 108 years old. Each of these disks have been sanded and then the rings counted and marked on the disks. The disks do crack and need to be replaced once in awhile.

This flower bed has lots of growing to do. The bottom photo is from last year and the one above is today. I hope they look just as good this year. I sit on the deck and watch the humming birds come to feed.

I get to stay home tonight, so maybe I will do some scrap sewing next.

Fish Pond

I thought I would share my pond with you today. It is a bright sunny day and perfect for sitting by the pond to enjoy the trickle of the water fall and the splash of the fish. The water lilies are blooming.
Today the pond needs the filter washed out and the water level topped up, but this will only take a few minutes. We built this pond ourselves and moved in many field rocks from around the rock piles and fields on the land. I have four fish this year, one gold fish and three koi.
