Rainbow Top

Rainbow quilt top is finally done. I keep thinking I will get a better outdoor photos but we have a snow mud mix outside (snow today). The quilt is large and takes up all of my design wall.

Here I was looking at what I could use for a sashing and a boarder. I interviewed nine patches in all the rainbow colours. Kind of OK for sashing but maybe too thick and large. The triangles for a boarder was OK too but the angles just did not do it for me when the blocks were so square. I was liking the fine strip of printed Rainbow fabric.

I did one rainbow strip set and hung up, Yes piano key boarder was more what I was looking for.

The blocks are together in this photo and I am double checking the strip sets for the piano keys.

I looked back and some of the blocks were made back in 2013.

Pink and lime green.

Green blocks, also found in the 2013 photos.

I will add this post to Socrappy and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge on Saturday and Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Speaking In Camrose

Slab blocks made with scraps

I am the guest speaker tonight at the Camrose Quilt Guild. My topic is all about scrap quilts. How I sort and store my scraps. How I use the scraps and the scrap quilts that I make.
I will be showing many other Rainbow scrap quilts.

Here are the strings I needed to make the quilt below. Most are 1 1/2" strips but some are not that size, it was OK if it was short or just a bit larger. The lengthen of the strips are around 5 or 6" long. It was used for the outer boarder.

Here are the blocks.

And the finished quilt. I got the pattern you can see the pattern I bought Here. I made a few changes so I did not follow it to a tea.

I am also teaching a class for them in early November. I am so excited to be doing some more teaching and speaking. I have asked my mom, Betty, to come with me tonight, she got me started in the hobby of quilting.

Orange Scraps

Here are the Squared Away sampler blocks for the Month of August and the scrap colour Orange. I like how they turned out. Each one looks a little different. On top is the 7 1/2" blocks and the bottom row is the 10" blocks.

Next up are the migrating geese blocks. They look kind of off tilled. I do a odd angle when I took the photo and then tried to fix it with editing. Just looks bad. Trust me they look good in person.

See already better looking.

I have added this post to Soscrappy and her link up party.
The next colour up is Dark Blue, so I just this weekend I will start a chopping and sorting out my Blues.

I now have 16 blocks for a hug quilt. It is a group project and I need to get them in the mail this week. I hope it will tell someone that we care.

Last week we got back from our mountain holiday. My husband took this photo of me. We have climbed on of the higher mountains in the area. You can see we are just above the tree line. There was some light smoke from fires in the area so the other mountains are not real clear. This was about 500 meter above were our camp was. So yes we climbed 500 meters that day. I do not like heights and this was not pleasant for me. I can say I did it but I do not want to do it again. Our dear horses worked so hard. Thank you Jester!

Scrappy Saturday

Back in January 2018, I started the blue spiral log cabin blocks. It was part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2018 light blue for Jan. I kept going and got the quilt top done. Later this spring, a friend asked if I had any baby quilts for sale. She found out the baby is a boy so this quilt was going to be perfect. I got the quilt done last month and finished and delivered the quilt.

Here is the quilting with more Spirals.
After the baby is born I am going to add a label.
So happy to hear that there will be a new baby just down the road in a few weeks.

I got a little more Red done from July's colour. These are 6 1/2" crumbs or poverty piecing.

I worked with some Red and Pink scraps for these hearts.
I have 7 more blocks almost done.
 So a total of 14.
I will mail these off for a group hug quilt.

Aug is the scrap challenge colour is Orange.
I have started Bow Ties.
I am using an orange with white dot fabric.
How cute are they?
I will not use any other orange but all the other colours, like these Red ones.

I worked hard on my Orange scraps. I cut and cut and ironed out funky bits.
I have tons of triangle in there. I have 3" square, 2 1/2" sq, 2 "sq and then I needed 2 by 3 1/2" units for some flying geese. Now I can start putting some blocks together. I am sure  will need another few weeks before I can complete all this orange.

I have added this post to Soscrappy and Confessions of a fabric addict.

Blue Spiral Quilt

I got the machine quilting done on this little blue quilt on Saturday. I now have the binding to do. I should have it done in a few days. I like to hand stitch the binding down.

I few people have asked me about the design of the block. It is a log cabin done in a spiral. I got a block in one of my pizza block exchanges done by a friend. I am sure it is out there as a basic block. I used 1 1/2" strips of fabric. I think my blocks were done till they measured 12". Half the blocks have 3 light sides and the other half of the blocks have 3 dark sides. Then I could get them to lay out with out 2 dark or 2 light strips beside each other.

I quilted it with pale blue thread and did a spiral design all over it. It is so nice a warm.

Red Scrap Blocks

Big wall of Red Scrap Blocks. It is close to the end of the month and we are almost done with Red. I still have a few more blocks to do and many scraps to use up.
I love the wall all in blocks.

I got some pinwheels done.

I got some hexagon flowers done.

These are the migrating geese blocks I finished up.

I got a little more done for the Honey Comb quilt done. I had some red blocks done but so of the colours I had 4 or 6 blocks so I figured I could use a few more red ones. Not sure how many blocks I have now. This might be time for the design wall soon.

Red talking turkey blocks (a Bonnie Hunter pattern from String Fling). These blocks take sometime but do they ever use up bits of fabric. There are some blocks just over 2" used and the little triangles then all the strings needed. Lots of fabric used up here.

I had the pink one well started but not done. This week they got done.

Now I have 3 colours of the talking turkey blocks done and they look good together.  I have the yellow blocks started but not done yet.

I have added this to Soscrappy

Red for July

I finally got a few blocks done with my red scraps. July is the colour Red. I find I spend the first half of the month sorting and cutting my scraps. These blocks are called Round the Corner and they are for the Squared Away sampler. This top set of blocks are the 10" blocks.

This is the 7" blocks.

And both sets up on the wall.

There is the whole set of 7" blocks I have done. I could still go back and do Jan in light blue. They look so good together.

Next up is flying geese. I do them for the migrating geese and I have extras for later.

Today I just got started on the Migrating Geese Blocks. So you know what I will be working on this week.

All the Turquoise

I love doing the end of the month wall of all that colour scrappyness. So much Turquoise got done and put in to quilt blocks. I love them all. I have so much turquoise and I have used it in many quilts lately so I have scraps to use up.

The past 2 weeks, I got 5 blocks done for Talking Turkey and quilt pattern of Bonnie Hunter's that is in her String Fling book. I love that book so many good quilts to work on. I have started the pink and yellow blocks from the past months. These take lot of time so it is slow going.

Pinwheels 16 got done. I am sure I will make a baby quilt using these or some of these.

Poverty Piecing (also called crumb blocks). I used some of the tiniest triangles form some kind of cut off triangle unit.

I got 16 6" blocks done.

I have added this to Soscrappy's link.

Not on the wall, but I got a group of 2 1/2" triangles done. I have many ideas with Triangles so I am sure they will find a home.

So I did not really get all my pink done in May and put away. I had a stack of wacky pink pieces, so Poverty piecing had to get done.

Turquoise Scrap Blocks

I have been working my way through my Turquoise Scrap Box. I take most of a week to sort and cut my many smaller bits of fabric. These blocks have taken me 2 weeks as I did not have many to show last week.

I have been cutting strips out of the funny sized fabrics. Most are already strip left over from past projects. Some are mangled fat quarters that are need ironing and squaring up.
Once I have strips I cut squares. This year I am cutting 3", 2 1/2, and 2" squares. They seam to be what I use the most.

Strips are 3", 2 1/2", 2" and 1 1/2" I had many of the 1 1/2" left over from 2 projects I did this past year.

My sampler blocks in 10" and in 7 1/2" sizes.

Hexagon flowers. I use the 2" squares and the 3/4" papers for these.

I worked hard this Saturday morning and got my 6 migrated Geese blocks done just in time to show off. I love these blocks. If I keep making 6 per colour I might end up with enough for 2 quilts. I might be over doing it.

I have added this post to Soscrappy. She had to get her husband to make her link post as she is out of town.

The last of my pink sampler blocks. Can you see the oops? there is kind of 2 oops blocks. I guess I had better fix at least the far left bottom triangle so it matches the other 3 corners.
