Rainbow Pinwheel Quit

One of my agility teachers has had a human baby girl. Her dogs had puppies too in 2020. It was a year of staying close to home and having babies. While I needed to make a baby quilt. Yesterday I dropped it off to her.

Close up of the quilting and binding. I did loops all over.

On the deck table in the sunshine.

As the quilt is going to agility person I had to do a photo shot out on the equipment. On the teeter just before the wind removed it.

On a tunnel, the blue and yellows look good with it.

I love this photo, on a jump. Kind of funny, as last week I was adding coats and blankets to a jump to let my dog see different jumps. Every time she came around to the jump it looked a little different.

Green March

I got some Sister's choice blocks done in green this week. They will look good with my pink and yellow ones. I am so far behind for green this month. We have been warmer and most of the snow is gone. Many winters we have lots still and it is colder. Walks and training with the dogs has been great, but it means less time to quilt.

To see more about the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021 check out the link. For years now, about 10 years, I have been Following along and doing blocks in the given colour. I have many quilts done and many more started by doing the colour of the month. I love how it works.

Two new books came this week. I have Lori's Farm Girl Vintage books one and 2. The blocks from these books play nicely with the other blocks in Farm Girl Vintage. I really wanted the other dog blocks. Looks like I might be making more quilts from here. Love the Christmas blocks.

Rainbow Scrappy Pinwheels

I did some machine quilting on Saturday, one of my quilts. I did loops all over as this baby quilt will get washed lots and it will be lots of quilting to keep it together. I love doing loops for baby quilts. There is so many fun prints in this quilt.

The backing fabric is sheep.

Here is the design wall.

You can check out the Rainbow scrap challenge and see what others are making over at Soscrappy

These blocks have been done for some time, years really. It is just a bit of a bigger box of blocks. I have dug them out because I am stating to think about how I might use them.

My good friend Nadine has been working on her green scraps/ She got this block done, it is called improved 4 patch, Makes her think of 4 leaf clovers.

I had better get going on the green scraps. I have so many and need so many blocks done.

Green Saturday

Today is the first green scrap Saturday. So far I just have the this little block done, a 16 patch. My list in the box had just one missing. So now the green is complete in that box and I can cross it off. I have been putting a list of blocks in the box, it helps to see quickly if I need any more done or not.

Next up I have this laid out to piece together.

Green scraps -What can I say? it is by far my biggest boxes of scraps. I love green and there are so many different greens. Wow.
I have a number of green blocks missing to help complete sets. I t=really could do green for 2 months, I am sure.

I have added this post to Soscrappy. She has many links to check out for scrap quilts. I could spend the whole day there.

This is the last of my Yellow blocks left over from February. 8" log cabin blocks done on paper. I got them trimmed up today but I have paper to take out still. so mostly done.

Pretty fabric. I just loved this wall of batik fabric and had to take a photo. It is Batiks on sale.

This book, I found it. my mom and I have been looking for this book and this week someone local had a copy for sale. Glad to have a copy to share with mom. I sent it to her house before I had a good look. So not sure if I will start another string quilt yet or not.

Green yarn! I am taking a sock knitting class on line tomorrow. I think I will try using this yarn, pretty Green again.

Nadine has been keeping up with her Rainbow Scrap Challenge too. She finished up this yellow block last weekend for February.

Then she sorted her green box of scraps and used some of the larger pieces to make this card holder. Her grandmother is in the hospital and loves to play cards. She is hopping this card holder will let her still play some crib. What a great gift.

So much to show today.

Saturday Sunshine Yellow

My yellow wall so far this month, as we come to the end of the month. I might not have gotten a ton of yellow used up but I still have a pretty full design wall of stuff. So happy to finish up the pinwheel top. I have more pinwheels to use for the next baby quilt. Sister's choice and the square in a square blocks are done.

We are very sunny here today but a bit cold out. It is to warm back up for Monday March. In like a lamb, out like a lion.

I still need to do more. Many yellow strings ready to use still.

I have a small start on my log cabin blocks. They are still so tiny. Maybe today I can get more done on them. Many more rows to go around.

Hay did you here we get to work with Green for March! I have so much green! It really is a colour we use a lot of. To see what everyone is doing to finish up their Yellow go check out the links at Soscrappy

I sent this quilt in the mail yesterday. I am sending it a fire victim that lost everything including his agility dogs. What else do quilter's do but send a quilt like a big hug.

This quilt was made as a challenge from the Rainbow Scrap Challenge a few years ago. We were asked to use our Dark prints that were hard to fit in a colour. The pattern is from Karen of Griska Quilts.

2nd Yellow Scrap Saturday

I got the top together. I am so happy to finish the quilt top. It is a baby quilt and the baby is due in March. This is the first quilt top I have finished in the past 15 months. Yes, a long time for me. But I still have to quilt and bind it.

I used some 1 1/2" strings to do these blocks. I did 5 that started with a light yellow and finish with a darker yellow. then 5 the other way. so a total of 10 blocks. The blocks measure 7 1/5" unfinished size.

So my wall looks like this for now.

Nadine (my good Friend) is joining us with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021. These are her yellow blocks she got done this week. She loves sunflower fabrics and has a few prints with yellow.

Nadine and I were zooming and sewing together on Sunday with a few of our local sewing friends.

I will add my post to the other yellow Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021 over at Soscrappy.

I am taking a zoom class today called Creative Expressions workshop : Milagro with Dawn Piasta It is hosted by the Edmonton and District Quilter Guilds. I let you know how that goes. Sunday is also a class on Bojagi/ Pojagi or Modern Korean Patchwork.

Yellow Scrap Saturday

Sister's Choice blocks were the first to do on my yellow list of blocks. Some of the yellow triangles get kind of lost but maybe that makes the blocks sparkle more.

Then the next big one of the list was Yellow Pinwheels. I want to have a baby quilt done soon so I needed these.

I kept going and made more pinwheels, this time in Orange, Turquoise and Blue. So many Pinwheels.

Next was to lay out my blocks. I have this up on the wall ready to sew together. I am hosting a zoom sew day for the Edmonton and District Quilter's Guild today. I still get so sew.  Getting this top sewn together is my goal for the day. Then I will move on to more yellow.

Last Saturday I was still not done all my pink. I have been looking though all my blocks and seeing if I have some colours missing, or just need a few more blocks to lay out a top. I needed these 16 patch blocks in Pink, So I got 9 blocks done.

Then while I still had some pink on the wall, I added the last few blocks. Here is my final wall of Pink for January 2021. I also did 2 more sister choice blocks. I have no idea how many blocks I need to a sister's choice quilt.

Nadine's Blocks

My good friend, Nadine, has plans to follow along with us at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this year. She has asked me to post her blocks on my blog for her. This past month she got two pink blocks done. One is Broken dishes, she chose this block because she has broken a few mugs and glasses this month.  I am so happy to have her join me in the adventure of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021.

I will get this post linked up with Soscrappy. Check out what else everyone is working on.

Pink Scrap Saturday

I worked hard to get the Pink log cabin blocks done. They are a 7 1/2" block when finished and they have 29 strips of fabric used. I have been paper piecing them so when I am done I also have papers to take out the back side. I am so in love with this cute blocks. I try to use a few lights that have a bit of pink in them too, so many pink fabrics.

I have 8 done in total. I am so looking forward to a quilt made with so many log cabin blocks.

Scrappy Play Time

I have picked a date for my next class. I am teaching another class of Scrappy Play Time on Zoom. I have a few quilt friends interested in another class. So I am teaching Monday night Feb 15th 7 MT and then the main class Saturday Feb 20th 9 am till 4 pm MT time zone. The class will be on Zoom so anyone around the world can join us. Cost is $35.00 so a good price. Email me or comment if you would like to join or are looking for more information. I will be making up my supply list soon and will start to take fund right away for the class.  There will be so much fun scrappiness !

Next up is the square in a square in pink. These are also done like log cabin but I keep the same fabric all the way around. I used 1 1/2" strips to do these. I made 5 starting with the light pink and ending with dark. Then another 5 starting dark and ending light. I could see doing a one colour quilt like this. I am going to keep making different colour this year.

So here is the month's quilt blocks done. I love a full wall of one colour. These are my favorite photos of my blocks. Looking back at all one colour and se many different blocks.

I have a few more blocks to do today, using up some 2" squares. I found a hole in a group of blocks and they need some pink 16 patches done. So I guess I am not quiet done with pink yet. I also have some pinwheels to work on too. I need a pinwheel baby quilt soon.

I have added my post to Soscrappy and if you want to see what others are working on go see the link up page for many more bloggers post about Scrap Saturday.

Teaching Scrappy Play Time

Wow I love this quilt. Today, I am going to teach 20 ladies how they can use their scraps and make this quilt. Or they can work towards another scrap quilt. This class is done on zoom and should be a ton of fun, I have a slide show full of ideas.

This quilt was started in 2012 because of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and the Soscrappy blog. I have had years of fun with my scraps because of the challenge. Now I am spreading the word about rainbow scraps. and how you can store and use your fabrics. Monday night we had a 1 hour zoom meeting and I told them about sorting and storing scraps.

If you are interested in taking my class, I am planning to teach this class again by zoom. I still need to pick a date, maybe February 20th. But please contact me by sending me an email and I can add you to the list.

So this month we are working on our Pink scraps I have some strings sorted and ready to use. I need a t least as much of the light fabrics too.

I have a few Log Cabin blocks started. I hope to have them finished by the end of the month, So just a peak at them so far. I am paper piecing them, the logs are 1/2" wide.

Pink Scrappy

Planning to join in on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021. It has been a few year since I played along. To start with I made the Sister's Choice block that Anglia also made last week.

If you want more ideas for your scraps You should check out the links to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2021. There are so many more links to see and so many great ideas.

I had many of the units cut and ready to go so they went together for me very quickly. I might make one more before the month is done.
This Month the Colour is Pink. I have many pink scraps and my box is well sorted.

Also this week I built pink pinwheel blocks. They will finish up as 4". I am in need of a finished baby quilt by March, a gift for a friend.

All the Pink I did this week.

I am kind of a day behind, but yesterday I zoomed with some of my local quilt friends. It also got my mom to join us for a bit. Next week I will try to be on Saturday and not Sunday.

I will need more pinwheel blocks before the end of Feb so I went ahead and made Red, Green and Purple pin wheels to add to the pink ones. I know I am not following just so for the rainbow challenge but I need more done soon. This should be around half the blocks done. I have not thought what size and I am ok with extras, I might make 2 quilts.

So The other pink in my house this week is this Pink Amaryllis. I had a bright red one for Christmas but started this one two weeks later. I have a 3rd bulb that is at least another 2 weeks behind, so maybe by the end of the month I will have another one. I hope to keep the plant growing for the 8 months then hope I can get it to bloom again next year.
