Slab Quilts Finished

I got the last of the charity quilts done for The Great Canadian Quilt Bee and Ronald McDonald House. I started working on blocks back in January and ended up deciding to make 3 quilts to give away and one for me to keep. I got all 3 charity quilts done. This is the last one.  The quilt for me is close to being done too.

Here are all three on the fence together. I made the 4 by 6 block size, so the larger size they were looking for. I used Cheryl Arkison's slab blocks as the pattern, Then I also have at least one Canadian fabric in each block. Sometimes there is a extra maple leave fabric too. I had some black, red and teal maple leave fabric to add in.

Gemma my Lab got to get into the photo too. Yes the sun was crazy bright and hot.

You can see some of the cute fabrics that got added into this quilt. I did some fuzzy cutting to get the animals just right.

Here are the 3 quilts

The labels that I made for the backside.

Slab Quilt #2

Canadian Slab Quilt # 2 totally done. I just got the binding done after lunch and then rushed outside to get some photos. These quilts are going towards the Canada's Big Quilt Bee hosted by CQA. The blocks were to be slab blocks like Cheryl Arkison block in Sunday Morning Quilts but 12 1/2" and they were to have at least one Canadian fabric in it.

Here are the 2 finished ones together so you know I did really do 2. They are kind of a like but as they are scraps they are not really the same.

I did the binding with different fabrics. I think I like the red one the best. I use stripped fabric for many of my bindings so I am surprised I like the red that much.

Another close up.

I also took some shots in the lawn. I think all the yellow dandelions are so cute around my quilt. My husband hates dandelions and any minute they are going to be mowed. Really, he just walked out the door saying he is off to mow. He hates to see a field of yellow.
Mowers running now!

I have added this post to Crazy Mom Quilts, and Confessions of a Fabric Addict with Can I get Whoop Whoop. I will also plan to add this post to Soscrappy's Saturday linky party as I did do many blocks with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017

Monday Design Wall

I have enough blocks to still do 2 more slab quilts. Here is the 3rd quilt. I hope to get the top together in a day or 2. I am working on Charity quilts for the CQA Canada's Big Quilt Bee. They asked us to make slab blocks, quilt tops or finished quilts. Then the finished quilts will be given to Ronald McDonald House for sick kids. The quilts are due by the end of the month, so I have lots left to do.

Slab Wall Monday

Today on my Design Wall is a good bunch of Slab blocks. The slab block is from Cheryl Arkison's book Sunday Morning Quilts. I am making them for Charity quilts but changed the size to 12 1/2" and added a Canadian fabric to each block. I wrote more about it on Friday's post. I even have one quilt finished with these kind of blocks. So far I have made 109 blocks and hope to have 3 quilts to give away. I will also be handing in some of my extra blocks.

Little orange pumpkin tea pot. Can you see the 2 Canadian fabrics?

This yellow block has a cooking piggy.

I have added today's post to Design Wall Monday over at Judy's blog and Monday Making

Today's post is post #700. I would have never thought I would write 700 little notes about my quilting and  a few things about the rest of my life. I just do not consider myself a writer, but maybe I should call myself a writer after 700.

Mid Week Blocks

I am still passing around the pizza box exchanges at the Leduc guild.  Here are the last 2 blocks I did. We were to make Christmas presents. I like the fabric combinations I used. This theme was perfect for the pizza box exchange.

I got the purple Slab blocks done, a total of 7 more. That is 13 purple ones I have made so far for the Big Canadian Quilt Bee. The first 6 are in the quilts I started in January. I hope by May I can get the last 18 blocks done and 2 more quilt tops done quilted and binding. I have one quilted but need binding. then one top needs quilting.

Slab Quilt #2 top done

I am on a roll now.
This is Finish # 5 for the 5th week in a row! Top is finished!
This is the 2nd slab quilt top I am doing. I might keep this quilt. it has 30 blocks and the larger size they were asking for was 24 blocks. I wanted one bigger quilt to keep. But then I have say keep I just might give it away to someone I know. I will have to think about that more.

This quilt has some turquoise blocks in it that the 1st quilt did not, I love that turquoise Canadian maple leave fabric too.

So here is another photo with my Sweet Lab Gemma in the photo. She comes with me to help.

I tried to do outdoor photos today, not working. We have melting temps and wind from the south. Mud every where. Here is the fence shot, what a mess. I was risking wet mud there just under the quilt. So today's shot was taken in the barn and I used magnets to hold it to the metal wall. I will have to work on ideas for photos of quilted with batting photos. The magnets will not hold that much weight.

Slabs Blocks Take Over

Looking at all the slab blocks I have done so far. Wow! I have 79 Blocks done so far.

This one above is now quilted and is waiting on getting binding on. I will get some more finished photos when the binding is done.

These blocks are still on the wall from last week. I just finished the bottom row of blocks this week. I might keep this quilt for myself. If I do that I have to take 30 out of my total blocks made for charity So 79 - 30 = 49 blocks so far for the Canada's Big Quilting Bee, hosted by the CQA.  I am planning on 3 quilts fully completed for the Big Quilt Bee.

Is that bad of me to keep one quilt for myself? I just love these quilts.

I have so many slab blocks around I am having trouble keeping track of them. I have made myself a spread sheet to help me understand what I need and how many more I need to sew.

For many of the blocks I used this white maple leave print. I have run out and I would love some more of these print. Any body got some for sale? I did buy another print so I could keep going but I would love more of this one.

Here is the teal blocks and I added in a bit more maple leave only this time teal.

I have added this post to Sew Fresh Quilt Bee where she has a special link up for slab blocks and the Canada's big quilt bee, and Design Wall Monday

The last few Blue blocks I did this last week.

March 4th my Local Leduc quilt guild is planning a work bee on slab blocks. I am not going to make it to the work bee. I have another agility dog trial. I am making up for not being at the bee.

I love this Red slab block. Many of my favorite reds are in here.

Next up I am planning to make 6 more Purple slab blocks, then more yellow, orange, and black.

Finish it up Friday

My 4th week in a row with a finished quilt top. This week it is a small wall quilt or maybe a baby quilt. Got it sewn and now it waits to be quilted. I have it all ready to go, backing and batting with it. Sorry no outdoor hanging on the fence photo, it is cold out and this little quilt fits on the wall. I have a very special and time consuming quilt on the frame for a customer so this will have to wait.

I have added today's post to Crazy Mom Quilts, and Confessions of a Fabric Addict and

I got another 7 Red Slab blocks done in the middle of the week. I think Red is becoming a favorite colour of mine. I love how many red prints I have. I just might have to do a mostly red quilt this year. These blocks are planned for a few more slab quilts. I am planning 4 quilts in total. My mom has a slab quilt started too.

So many happy red fabrics.

Design Wall Monday Feb 20th

Here is Slab quilt #2, laid out and ready to sew and become a top.  I am making many slab blocks and a few quilts. I think I will keep this one quilt for myself. I have made this quilt with 30 blocks. Slab quilt #1 has 24 blocks. I am now in the planning stages to make 4 slab quilts, 3 I will give to the CQA's Big Canadian Quilt Bee. Also I think my mom has started some slab blocks so I will have to quilt her quilt(s) too. I am not sure how many she will make.

I have added this post to Judy's Design wall Monday.

So I am also still making blocks for quilts 3 and 4. I am using 24 blocks per quilt. I have my scraps sorted and plan to use 8 colours so I need 3 blocks per colour. Here are 6 more blue blocks for the 3rd and 4th quilt.

We are using at least one Canadian fabric in the blocks, to celebrate Canada's Birthday this year 150 years young. I have both a cream and turquoise maple leave fabric in this block. I love this line of fabric. I am sure I will have to buy more of it.

Happy Family Day

1st Slab Top Done

I got one of the slab quilt tops done. I am making slab quilts to donate to Canada's Big Quilt Bee. You can find the slab block pattern Here by Cherly Arkison.

I had a helper today to take photos. I thought a quilt hug was a good photo. It was kind of cold out today with a bite of wind.

Over the deck rail

My model is hiding. This quit has 24 12" blocks. So the quilt measures 48" by 72", I think it is the larger size they were looking for.

This is a cute bush to drape the quilt on.

Each block is to have at least on fabric that is Canadian. I used the nice white with red maple leaves.

So happy to have a top done.

Canadian Slab Blocks

WOW, I got two more colours done! I started working slab blocks at the end of January and already I got all my colours done. I planned to do 8 colours, Red, Green, Blue, Black, Orange, Yellow, Pink and Purple. I wanted to make 2 quilts so needed 24 x 2 = 48 blocks. So 8 colours, I needed 6 blocks of each colour. I have a few extra, 1 red and 6 green.

I have 48 +7 = 55 blocks done.

So happy with myself.

So this weekend I hope to work on a quilt top.

Check out the Canada's Big Quilt Bee if you want to know more about the Quilt Bee.

The slab block is a pattern from Cheryl Arkison. The link has the how to make some blocks and the sizes of quilts they are looking for.

I love the pink cat fabric with the little black cat in the bottom corner, so sweet.

So many shades of Purple.

I might have to go shopping for backing fabric, not sure what I have that I can use. I would kind like flannel but I do not have any that is big enough, just one piece for a baby quilt.

Design Wall Feb 6

I declared this past weekend a stay at home Retreat of Quilting. It all started on Friday night, I got sewing more slab blocks. Saturday I slept in but spent the day in my sewing room. Sunday the same thing, lots of sewing got done.

Black slab blocks. I am working my way through my boxes of colour sorted scraps. I am planning on sending a quilt for Canada's Big Quilt Bee. If you want to make some here is the Slab pattern. The blocks are 12 1/2" and they ask that we have a piece of Canada fabric. I have been using this White with Red maple leaves, I am running out.

Can you see the other Canadian fabric? is is black with cream maple leaves. I picked it up at retreat, someone else scrap, just one strip. Love my paw prints too.

I just kept sewing all weekend long. I got 6 blocks done in Yellow. Yellow is not really a favorite colour for me but I have collected a few cute yellow fabrics. Like the big dots that go to Red, or the the plaid yellow.

I have decided if I make 6 blocks of each colour that will add up to 48 blocks and I can make 2 quilts. I will have some extra green blocks.

Orange got done too. Can you see I added in a bit of Red maple leave fabric in there?
