Scraps, some yellow

I am teaching today. Scrappy Play Time. I had my bounce ball quilt as the main project but I also had this Friendship Star block as another option to do. Well I got to work on making three blocks into a table runner. Here is a start.

Sorry my scraps are not yellow this week, but my students needed to see this done and how it went together.

Check out what others are doing with their Yellow scraps this week. Soscrappy has a great link up going on.

I had done this Christmas runner a few years ago, on the right. And I knew it would be quick to do the same layout but using the Friendship Star blocks. So here it is done just a bit before bed time.
My class students will be getting notes on how I made this runner.
It still needs quilting and binding but it feels good to have another top done.

My good friend Nadine did a yellow friendship star block this week. She is having fun working on her scraps too. She has asked me to post her block.

Nadine also got this large quilt top done. I did a class a few years ago on Many Trips Around the World. Nadine took the class and has now done a few Many Trip quilts. I love that it got done on the month we were working on our yellow. She has all kinds of old scrap fabrics. She says some of the fabrics were from panels and change a bit as you cut down the strip.

Great Finish Nadine!

Teaching Bouncing Ball

Scrappy Play Time Class on Zoom

Next week I am teaching Scrappy Play Time, my class about making bouncy ball and building up crumb blocks, to make this block and/or the star block.

Happening on Zoom, me in my sewing room, you in your sew space. no packing up

Monday Feb 15, 7 pm Mountain zone 1 hour lecture about sorting and storing scraps.

Saturday Feb 20th all day 9 am till 4 pm Mountain time zone is the main class.

Cost is $35.00 I still have room for a few more people to join. It is not too late.

In class we will talk about crumb blocks and what we need to make these units.
I will have a large hand out to support my zoom class. You will get the hand out before the Monday lecture and you can follow along with your notes.
Saturday I have a power point to show you.  I include many of my scrap quilts I have done over the years.

Then in class on Zoom you can make the Bounce Ball block or the Friendship Star block. We can get you started towards making a full sized quilt like my bounce ball or maybe you want some thing smaller. A table runner with star blocks has been one idea I show in class. Once you know how best to use your scraps there are so many possibilities.

Email if you would like to know more. I have a supply list ready to email out.

Scrappy Play Time

I am planning to teach this class again, Feb 15th is a a lecture for 1 hour at 7 pm. Then the main class is Feb 20th from 9 am till 4 pm mountain time zone. I will be doing this class on Zoom from my sewing room. I have done the class twice before and it all ran well. There were some good advantages to the zoom class, I could just grad stuff from my room to show you. You did not have to pack up any stuff, but stay in your sewing space.

I have 6 students signed up now so if you are interested please email me. You can be anywhere in the world and join us. I take a max of 20 students. My time zone is Mountain.

You can do the ball blocks or the star block. I will show you how I work with my scraps to make up these blocks. If you are fast some students get a sample of both blocks done in class. I will show you an idea for a table running in class so you can try this and not have to make a large quilt like Bounce Ball.

I also show you so many ideas I have done using my scraps. I hope to inspire my students to do so many different blocks and quilts.

The Monday night will be mostly about sorting and storing your scraps so that they are easier to use quickly. Now that my scraps are under control I can quickly get out scraps and make a few blocks. It took tons of time to sort and get my scraps under control. Now I find my boxes so easy to find what I need for so many projects.

Here is a block made by one of my students, Nadine. I love the variety of blues she has used. I am a real fan of whites that have a little colour and her background white is prefect.

Cost of the class is $35.00 and I am now taking students. Please send me a message with your questions.

Pink Scrap Saturday

I worked hard to get the Pink log cabin blocks done. They are a 7 1/2" block when finished and they have 29 strips of fabric used. I have been paper piecing them so when I am done I also have papers to take out the back side. I am so in love with this cute blocks. I try to use a few lights that have a bit of pink in them too, so many pink fabrics.

I have 8 done in total. I am so looking forward to a quilt made with so many log cabin blocks.

Scrappy Play Time

I have picked a date for my next class. I am teaching another class of Scrappy Play Time on Zoom. I have a few quilt friends interested in another class. So I am teaching Monday night Feb 15th 7 MT and then the main class Saturday Feb 20th 9 am till 4 pm MT time zone. The class will be on Zoom so anyone around the world can join us. Cost is $35.00 so a good price. Email me or comment if you would like to join or are looking for more information. I will be making up my supply list soon and will start to take fund right away for the class.  There will be so much fun scrappiness !

Next up is the square in a square in pink. These are also done like log cabin but I keep the same fabric all the way around. I used 1 1/2" strips to do these. I made 5 starting with the light pink and ending with dark. Then another 5 starting dark and ending light. I could see doing a one colour quilt like this. I am going to keep making different colour this year.

So here is the month's quilt blocks done. I love a full wall of one colour. These are my favorite photos of my blocks. Looking back at all one colour and se many different blocks.

I have a few more blocks to do today, using up some 2" squares. I found a hole in a group of blocks and they need some pink 16 patches done. So I guess I am not quiet done with pink yet. I also have some pinwheels to work on too. I need a pinwheel baby quilt soon.

I have added my post to Soscrappy and if you want to see what others are working on go see the link up page for many more bloggers post about Scrap Saturday.

Teaching Scrappy Play Time

Wow I love this quilt. Today, I am going to teach 20 ladies how they can use their scraps and make this quilt. Or they can work towards another scrap quilt. This class is done on zoom and should be a ton of fun, I have a slide show full of ideas.

This quilt was started in 2012 because of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge and the Soscrappy blog. I have had years of fun with my scraps because of the challenge. Now I am spreading the word about rainbow scraps. and how you can store and use your fabrics. Monday night we had a 1 hour zoom meeting and I told them about sorting and storing scraps.

If you are interested in taking my class, I am planning to teach this class again by zoom. I still need to pick a date, maybe February 20th. But please contact me by sending me an email and I can add you to the list.

So this month we are working on our Pink scraps I have some strings sorted and ready to use. I need a t least as much of the light fabrics too.

I have a few Log Cabin blocks started. I hope to have them finished by the end of the month, So just a peak at them so far. I am paper piecing them, the logs are 1/2" wide.

What have I worked on?

Yesterday I was teaching Many Trips Around the world.  I few of my dog agility friends wanted to learn to quilt. So I had a class for them. This is the newer set of blocks I got done to show how we could change the setting. This is the start to the next quilt on the design wall.

Look at all the fun fabric in this quilt. Yes a real mix of nice fabrics. Batik, Tula and KFC.

The week before, on Saturday, I was teaching scrap quilts. The Battle River Quilt Guild had me out to teach. They have been quilting for years and have many scraps to use up. My quilt Bounce Ball was the main class sample and the units we were making could be used to make the ball or the Friendship star. I kind of laughed as we could call this star block - Crumby Friendship Star.

Here is bounce ball on the agility equipment and the ribbon it got a few years ago.

Speaking In Camrose

Slab blocks made with scraps

I am the guest speaker tonight at the Camrose Quilt Guild. My topic is all about scrap quilts. How I sort and store my scraps. How I use the scraps and the scrap quilts that I make.
I will be showing many other Rainbow scrap quilts.

Here are the strings I needed to make the quilt below. Most are 1 1/2" strips but some are not that size, it was OK if it was short or just a bit larger. The lengthen of the strips are around 5 or 6" long. It was used for the outer boarder.

Here are the blocks.

And the finished quilt. I got the pattern you can see the pattern I bought Here. I made a few changes so I did not follow it to a tea.

I am also teaching a class for them in early November. I am so excited to be doing some more teaching and speaking. I have asked my mom, Betty, to come with me tonight, she got me started in the hobby of quilting.

Scrappy Trips Around the World

I got to teach this past week. A good friend of mine offered her home and knew some relatives of her would come for a quilt class. So her sister, mom and aunt, along with 2 friends all came. When we had more room we opened it up and a couple of my friends came too.
She cooked a nice lunch and had scones for snack time.

I have used these blocks to show them how you can change the pattern. I flipped and moved blocks around. Great fun. Now the blocks show 2 trips on the left and the zig zag pattern in the middle to the right. Cool!

So class finished up late on Saturday. Sunday I wanted to sew for myself. I thought it would be good to sew my blocks together. I was slow and got started and still have more to do.
So I hope I can show off my finished quilt top soon.

I have added today's post to Sew Fresh Quilts and Let's Bee Social

Cotton Candy and other Sweets

Finished up the Cotton Candy Quilt top. The pattern is from Bonnie Hunter's book String Fling and is the last one in the book. I just love it. I have used all batik and hand dyed fabrics. Some are also hand done batiks by me. Those are extra special. I am planning to keep this quilt for me in the living room. I have loved working on this quilt because I love so many of the fabrics.

I have added this post to the linky party Confessions of a Fabric Addict.

I have started a new quilt. Yes another on in the list. I won a layer cake a few years back and had not done anything with it. Then I found more of the same fabric on sale for $6.00/m so I bought some more, enough I might also have the backing, binding and a boarder. I am using this simple block. I also did add in just a bit more lime green, te pack had some but not much so I have added a few fabrics not in the same line. It should work well.

I love the pink bird fabric.

I have been busy. So busy I have had trouble getting back to my blog, sorry. So last night I was teaching another quilt class. Many Trips Around the World. The photo is from 2014 when I last lead the class for the Leduc guild. This Saturday me and my students will be back at class. We are having so much fun.
