Scrap Saturday Red

I got 18 Red Butterflies done this week. I had cut them out of my scraps last week so it was quick to get them done. The pattern for them is out of the book Quilty Fun, so the same book as my tulips. Did you see the finish Tulip Quilt Top?

I have packed up some Red scraps to take with me on my little holiday. I just need to sew sometimes. So I hope to get a small 6" sample block done in this pattern but in all red. White with Red dots will count as red. It can be so hard to get some contract of value in red. Also I have packed more Glorious Hexagons to work on too.

I have added this post to Soscrappy while I am away.

Next up is a wall quilt I started to go with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017. I did a wall quilt I called Around About and then started 2nd Time Around ( I blogged a bit about it already).

So I have added some purple.

Picking out what to do next.

I will move from purple to Red now.

Next up will be the Red, I hope I can get it done as soon as I am home. I have a Red and purple strip set ready to go. I need more red added. Not sure how I can get the red to show better. I might have to dig in the hand dyed scraps to find some close to red, pink or orange.

Tulip Top Finished

I worked hard on the tulip quilt top this past week. Sunday I cut out the colours to go around the tulips and finished a few purple tulips.  Monday I was starting to lay it out. Then a few evenings of sewing the top together. This is finish number 8 for me this year. Yes I call finishing a top a finish, I will have to get some quilting done soon. I need lots quilted and bound king of finished soon.

I had been making tulips with the different colours as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at So Scrappy.
I will also add this post to Confessions of a Fabric AddictCrazy Mom Quilts,

Some of the rows coming together. This pattern is from the book Quilty Fun.

Some of the Red tulips I got done last week as part of the colour Red for March. Love how this photo looks. I think it is like when you see planted tulips in a row but you are not lined up with the rows.
I have many more tulips left to play with. I think they may show up in a coupe more quilts with other blocks.

Spring Design Wall

Today is the first day of spring and my design wall is showing it in fine form. Tulips all over the place. While not outside yet, but all over the sewing room. We are cold and clear and sunning outside. We may not see tulips outside till May. I hope to see some later this week as I have a little trip planned to Victoria, BC.

Working on getting more of this quilt up on the wall. I am starting to sew the tulips together and then next will be some rows. I got all the fabric cut yesterday. Many of the tulips have been made for some time. Saturday's post I showed you the Red field of tulips that I worked on as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I finished up a few more purple tulips also, then the other colours have been done for a while.

The pattern for this tulip quilt is from Quilty fun.

Spring Time Reds

I worked hard on my Red scrap bin this past week. It took me a long time to get this much done. There is a tiny bit of purple to the right side. You can see I also had to cheat and dig out my green scraps too. How can I make Tulips and Strawberries with out a little green.
Happy St Paddy's Day.

Now, how much do I love this 6" Strawberry block? It is so cute! A face book quilting friend made one in pink. I fell in love. I had to make one for myself  and could not stop at 1 but made 3.

3 Strawberries. I will make some pink ones later when we get the colour pink. Not sure I will make all the blocks in the sampler but maybe just a bunch of the better blocks.

Tulips 6" tall and that splash of green.

I am not sure what I was thinking. I made 31 Red tulips. I cut scraps for 12 then thought that is not enough. then cut more. No still I cut more. Oops I cut for 31 red tulips. I cut lots of green, then I would run out of green and had to cut more. Then I needed more 2" squares of white. Then I would sew, no still need to cut more. Why did I do 31? They were never ending. I have a few purple ones started but ran out of leaves again. Maybe next week.

Love this angle. kind of like a field of red tulips planted in rows. Did you know Canada gets Red tulips from Holland each year as a thank you for liberating them in the war? Someday I might have to go see Ottawa in the spring, like a good Canadian.

A few more Red Maple leaves.

I got 7 more done so a total of 9 so far. I need more. I hope to give 20 to my friend and keep some for myself.

I have added this post to Soscrappy's Happy Scrappy Saturday, check out all the other great Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts going on this year.

So the tulip pattern is from Quilty Fun and I have been working on blocks in this book for a few years. I am not sure how many quilts I will make. I am sure I will get 3 or 4 quilts. The Strawberries came from the Farm Girl Vintage. I picked up this book this week. I feel a new quilt coming on. Opps another new start, or 2.

I also want to review my list of Red

Follow Kaffe Fassett

I have my 6th Finished top this year! Must be a record for me.
I have to quilt more of them now.

If you have looked at my blog much the past few years, I keep working on quilts that use Kaffe Fassett Collection. I love most all of his fabric. It is bright and bold and I love how true the colours are. It goes well with my hand dyed fabric and solids and batiks. I started this summer

The quit is long and narrow so I wanted to show it off the other way too. One row is hiding so I will stay on the fence.

Today my black lab helpers. I am dogs sitting for a friend so I have a matched pair of black lab girls. They are loving the warm melting tempters. It was very wet today but I still got my photos done.

I have added this post to Crazy Mom Quilts, and Confessions of a Fabric Addict

When I have the quilting and binding done I think I will add this quilt to the for sale page.

2nd Time Around

In 2013 as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge I made this wall quilt, Around About. I used the first few colours of the year and used some scraps to play. Each month a new colour was used. So Jan pink, Feb purple, March orange, and then green. When I got this far it felt done, but I was not sure so it sat. I got it quilted in time to have it in a quilt show the fall of 2015. I have this quilt listed as For Sale in my Art Quilts for Sale Page.

While this year Turquoise started the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017. I started a bit late but here is a start to a 2nd Time Around. I am hoping to use hand dyed fabric, solids and a few solid like batik fabrics. This way the piecing will show off more then if I used prints. Some of my scraps are cut nicely and some not so much. I will allow it to get a little wonky and try not to use a ruler to square up. Sometimes I just wack off a tail with my scissors.

I work this on the design wall lots. I play with bits of fabric to see if it the next fit. February the colour is Purple so I have started to add a hint of purple.

Red Saturday Scraps

I got some red scraps done this week. I have looked back at so many of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge Projects and made some lists as to what is missing. The Red and Purple Lantern blocks were both missing.

List of missing Red
  1. 5 Sampler blocks 6"sq
  2. Tulips
  3. Butterflies
  4. Apples and cores need more red
  5. Red strip sets- does not have a name yet
  6. More maple leaves
  7. Flower tops for sprouts

My red block. Love the little bit of Canadian fabric in it.

Purple, it should have been done last month but I missed it. I have had trouble putting the purple away. You might see more as I have many purple things missing in my scrap projects.

Maple leaves. You are going to see more of these, 2 so far. I have a friend who has asked me to help her make more. I would also like to keep some for myself too.

More red in the works. How can it be week 2 of red already? I have so much to do.

I have add this post to Soscrappy

I am busy at agility this weekend, Friday was an all day workshop and Saturday and Sunday is a trial. No sewing till Monday night.

Mid Week Blocks

I am still passing around the pizza box exchanges at the Leduc guild.  Here are the last 2 blocks I did. We were to make Christmas presents. I like the fabric combinations I used. This theme was perfect for the pizza box exchange.

I got the purple Slab blocks done, a total of 7 more. That is 13 purple ones I have made so far for the Big Canadian Quilt Bee. The first 6 are in the quilts I started in January. I hope by May I can get the last 18 blocks done and 2 more quilt tops done quilted and binding. I have one quilted but need binding. then one top needs quilting.

Shoe Box Blocks

At the Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild ( I some times call it the Leduc guild) we have had a few Shoe Box Exchanges going around. This past month I had the box with batik and did these 4 blocks. I have to say I love sewing with Batik fabrics. It makes me wounder why I bother with any other fabrics. The cut and sew and press so well.

The way the shoe box exchange works is the box has a pattern and a pretty fabric in the box. So the fabric yardage is to the right side. Some cuts have more pink, green, yellow or green in them.

We were to use the print and make the star block. It measures 12 1/2".

The box had one block with a pink background so I made another block to go with it. This light pink was a remnant that I had recently bought, I thought this was a good block to use some.

Blues with the mostly yellow parts of the print.

Here are all the blocks that were in the box when I finished with it. What a great set of star blocks. At the meeting they passed it out one more time. So maybe at the next meeting they will a draw and name for the winner. I made 4 blocks so I will get 4 chances to win. I think I like this set some of the best of all the shoe boxes that I have done.

Ruby Red Scrap Saturday

Ruby Red Scrap Saturday it is. I worked on my nine patches. They are 3" when finished. I had done some red before but not many. So I got more Red done.

I have add this post the to the linky party at Soscrappy. I am gone to another agility trial with my lab Gemma.

Last week I had started the purple ones from our January colour. I did not have any done till now. I have 50 now.

A close up

I also got started on the teal ones last week but did not get them finished till just a few days ago.

Have you done a bunch of nine patches? what did you make? What might you make? I have not made a plan for my nine patches. I just like making them.
