Scrap Saturday

I still needed some 6 1/2" Brown sampler blocks. I got all nine done this week. I used patterns mostly from the Canada 150 blocks from Next step designs. I just grabbed which ever felt like I could do with the scrap in front of me.

I really like this little bow tie block. I still have one brown lantern block left to do. It is cut out just waiting to be sewn. I also have a ton of black blocks still to do. Well maybe this next week I can work on more. I have added this post to Soscrappy

I am working on On Ringo Lake, The next Bonnie Hunter Mystery. Step 1 just came out Friday morning. I got to do a little bit yesterday. The first step used 1 1/2" strips and Look what I found, All these strips came out of my scrap bins. I had done some cleaning last week and unearthed a ton of neutral 1 1/2: strips. I had some left over turquoise and I had a few browns. It was like it was meant to be.

This is how far I got yesterday. I will finish them up today.

I also got my teal or aqua scraps done for the Checkerboard Rail Fence Leaders and Enders. Not sure I will do any other colours. I might be done blocks.

Chocolate Goodness

Look at all the great chocolate goodness I have used. And it is all calorie free. I used a stack of brown scraps and made long strip sets.

I then cut out my units and got 4 Honey Comb blocks done. I have both Dark Chocolate and Milk Chocolate blocks now.

I have been looking around to see which quilt blocks I might do next year.

Near the bottom and just to the left of center is the Hershey kiss fabric. Also to the right is the truffle chocolates too.

I had the strips done back in Oct but did not get the blocks done on time. Orange was the colour for October so I am a little late. Most important is they got done.

The darker orange fabrics for this block.

The lighter orange fabrics for this block.

November Scraps

For some years now I have been working on my scraps by following the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at Soscrappy. This month we are to work on Dark colours like Brown, Black and any colours that we might have missed. I have played with the smaller bits and pieces in my brown box and got these 9 Poverty Pieced blocks done. I know many of you call them crumbs but I first heard them called Poverty Piecing.

I love looking back at the many different fabrics that show up in these blocks. Someday I will have a great quilt. Just not sure I am ready to stop, yet.

I have added this post to Soscrappy link up.

They are trimmed to 6 1/2" square.

Next up I worked on my Green rail fence blocks. I started the rail fence blocks this summer after Bonnie Hunter gave out the Leaders and Ender challenge, Checkerboard Rails. The colour Green was from May and the rail challenge was not out yet. So kind of a catch up block.

I love how these look. I have shaded the light to dark colours and it makes them look 3D. I have the Blues done and the pink done so far too. I hope to work on Lime next. Yes, Lime has it's own box in my house.
Me and the dog have the house to our-self's today. So I plan to sew all day long and maybe a walk in the snow.

Scrappy Snowy Saturday

November in my part of the world is very white outside, a good time to stay in and sew. Saturday scraps for November are to be Dark Brown or Black. I am a little behind and I did some more work on my Pink scraps from last month. I had a little stack of bits of pink laying around so I made some poverty piecing blocks, 6 1/2" square. These are fun when you are in the mood to make them.

I had been working on my Honey comb blocks but was just not done enough last week to show them off. To see more of my Honey Comb blocks look here.  I found the pattern for this block Here.

So I got 6 block done in pink. I have a few different shades of pink. This was fun.

While more poverty piecing got done this week. I had a few other little stacks of scraps and was in the mood for more, so they got sewn up, Pink, Lime, and some Blue.

Here is the whole design wall.

This will get linked up to Socrappy and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017.

I have started to sort in my brown box for fabric I can use for Brown honey comb Blocks. I know I'll have another scrap block or 2 to work on in Brown. Then maybe later in the month I will look at the black box of scraps.

Saturday Browns

We are so White around here. We have had tons of snow fall.
I got a bit of brown sewn together and then worked at the the Black and White fabrics too.
This is all I got done for the real RSC2013 projects.

I have been sewing mostly on my older singer. What a great work horse. These scraps have been helping me with the next new project.

I have been cutting brown strips. I have been a little distracted and not just using scraps.

Log cabins. I just love them. It is keeping me out of trouble well I wait for the next Bonnie Hunter mystery to get started. Funny how just before the mystery starts I just want to sew so badly. I get tons done on some other project before hand.

This is a great brown quilt I got quilted for a customer this week. So much brown this week.

As this month the colour for the RSC2013 is Brown you get to see my Brown Dog Lex. I just love this photo taken by Darcy Evens at the Dock Dogs event this past Aug. My T-Rex Dog.

There is more scrappy Browns over at Socrappy.

Brown November Saturday

Sorry for the  fussy photo. I wish I had taken a photo before the rows went together.

This is a very very old UFO. One of my oldest UFOs. I did a row by row and a class with 3D trees way back in 1998. I also added the dogs maybe in 1999. Then I took another class on UFOs and dug out some of these rows and blocks and started to put them together. Well then it sat for 10 plus years.
Every once in a while I dig it out.
I once put it on my UFO list then forgot what project it was because the name was just old UFO. I could not find it at one time.

While I took it to retreat last month and did some work on it.
I wish I had taken a photo at the start of retreat.
Well here is mid way.

Here of some of the browns. A brown dog made years before Lex my brown dog came in to our lives. The brown Bear and bears paw blocks. The the sweet little brown log cabin blocks. I got this row together at retreat. Before retreat they were only blocks.

At the end of retreat mostly in rows.

It is almost square. I do not want square. I think I would like a few more rows of simple patchwork added in. Maybe two 6" rows like the snails trail but add them in above the tigers and under the Zebras. And not snails trail again but maybe geese or mountain blocks. Then it would be 12" taller then the width, say 62" by 74" with out boarders. I am sure I will add boarders. Maybe dark blue, brown?

Brown ?
November ?
(sorry it is white here tonight)

While my plan for Brown this month is to work on some of the needed rows. And they will have some Brown scraps, maybe some green and red and Blue. But Yes Brown Scraps!

I have added this to the Linky party over at Soscrappy.
You can go see what other are doing for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013.

Ok if this month is brown, You will have to see some Brown Dog photos. I have lots.

Design Wall Monday Oct 29

I have been playing with my log cabin blocks a little. I really like this idea of the half a block off set. It gives the colour a nice little curve of colour. These log cabins were started because of Ellison Lane quilt a long. We will see if I get it done in time or not.

I have added today's post to Design Wall Monday

My other design wall has the last of the brown scraps still from Scrappy Saturday and the Rainbow scrap Challenge.

Last Brown Scrappy Saturday

I had to work on my brown scraps today. I really wanted to finish up my blocks today because next week will be a new colour. I have this 12 block finished today. for my main rainbow quilt I started last Nov.

Go to Soscrappy to see the other great brown scraps.

Last month I made some Orange 16 patches ( yes started another one) so today I got the brown ones done. I made sure to put one other colour in each block, pink, red and blue were used in these.

I keep working on the Spools as a leaders and enders challenge by Bonnie Hunter. So the ones here are new ones done this week. I do not have any more brown spools left to do. I think I will have to work on another colour for a few days.

Here is a photo of Teddy. He is a shade of brown so I am showing him today. Teddy belongs to my friend Yvonne. I was at Yvonne's on Friday. Our surface design group meet at her house to lay out a plan for the next few months. I think we are planning to do some marbling on fabric at the end of Nov. Teddy was a little bad and ate some candy out of one ladies bag and then over night him and the cat ate three homemade buns left from our day. Most of the time he is a good dog. Just likes people food.

Scrappy Saturday Browns

I have some Brown spools to show this week. I did some at retreat while sewing other things as this is a leaders and enders project. I am trying to do this like a charm project also and not have two fabric repeat, so doing each colour by the month helps.

A few of my favorite brown fabrics. I have added this post to Soscrappy.

I also got a chunk of brown Poverty Piecing done too.

I had to made some desserts today. My husband is hosting a party for 32 people tonight. I am in change of dessert. I am making Lemon squares. I wanted to watch Bonnie's Quilt Cam too so set it up next to the mixer.

Lex joins me by sitting next to the hand towel. It is the best place not far from the heat vent and the lest likely place to be stepped on.

Lemon squares out of the oven.

Chocolate cake and chocolate mousse dessert in layers. I also made a double pan of chocolate Brownies.  So lots of Browns happening around here. Wish us Luck with the big crowd of people. I hope everyone comes.

Here is a photo out the front door. We have snow. It is melting on the roads and sidewalks, so driving is not bad.

And out the back door.

2nd Brown Scrap Saturday

I am at retreat this weekend with my Aunt Arley and Mom. I have this brown quilt to share with you. My mom, Betty and my aunt, Myrna made this quilt top and I did the machine quilting. It is a granny square quilt. It is big something like 86" square.  As this month Scrap Saturday is Brown, I thought it was a good time to show you this beauty. The quilt has been donated to be raffled off this year. The Little Red Deer School (now a community hall ) needs a new roof. Our hope is the ladies of the local WI sell enough tickets that it covers the cost of the new roof. They are selling 400 tickets for $20 each. Just so you know I can not mail out tickets outside of Alberta.

The three of us ladies made the quilt as a thank you for the years my Dad and his brothers went to the one room school. My dad rode a horse to the school, up hill both ways you know. His banana and peanut butter sandwiches were frozen still at lunch time.

Most of the fabrics are civil war reproduction fabrics.

I quilted it with feathers on all the squares.

You can go see what the other ladies are doing for Brown this month by checking out Soscrappy.
