Saturday Sunshine Yellow

My yellow wall so far this month, as we come to the end of the month. I might not have gotten a ton of yellow used up but I still have a pretty full design wall of stuff. So happy to finish up the pinwheel top. I have more pinwheels to use for the next baby quilt. Sister's choice and the square in a square blocks are done.

We are very sunny here today but a bit cold out. It is to warm back up for Monday March. In like a lamb, out like a lion.

I still need to do more. Many yellow strings ready to use still.

I have a small start on my log cabin blocks. They are still so tiny. Maybe today I can get more done on them. Many more rows to go around.

Hay did you here we get to work with Green for March! I have so much green! It really is a colour we use a lot of. To see what everyone is doing to finish up their Yellow go check out the links at Soscrappy

I sent this quilt in the mail yesterday. I am sending it a fire victim that lost everything including his agility dogs. What else do quilter's do but send a quilt like a big hug.

This quilt was made as a challenge from the Rainbow Scrap Challenge a few years ago. We were asked to use our Dark prints that were hard to fit in a colour. The pattern is from Karen of Griska Quilts.

Red Scrap Blocks

Big wall of Red Scrap Blocks. It is close to the end of the month and we are almost done with Red. I still have a few more blocks to do and many scraps to use up.
I love the wall all in blocks.

I got some pinwheels done.

I got some hexagon flowers done.

These are the migrating geese blocks I finished up.

I got a little more done for the Honey Comb quilt done. I had some red blocks done but so of the colours I had 4 or 6 blocks so I figured I could use a few more red ones. Not sure how many blocks I have now. This might be time for the design wall soon.

Red talking turkey blocks (a Bonnie Hunter pattern from String Fling). These blocks take sometime but do they ever use up bits of fabric. There are some blocks just over 2" used and the little triangles then all the strings needed. Lots of fabric used up here.

I had the pink one well started but not done. This week they got done.

Now I have 3 colours of the talking turkey blocks done and they look good together.  I have the yellow blocks started but not done yet.

I have added this to Soscrappy

Honey Comb Quilt

The Honey Comb Quilt top is done! I finished it up at Retreat this past month. I got my hubby to help and get a quick outdoor photo. We have wind so this is a good as it got today. At least the colour shows off best in the outdoor light.

Wind.
I am very happy with how it has turned out. I started it with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017 about this time last year. We were to dig in our scraps that were multi coloured or dark. Well I had a few scraps to work on. I sort scraps by colour and many of these prints did not fit in to a colour box.

I will add this post to Soscrappy on Saturday when she puts up her link page to Scrap Saturday and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

The indoor photo at retreat, late at night after everyone else is gone to bed. Retreat was Great!

I also got a NCW done. What? NCW Necessary Clutch Wallet. I made this one with gold Vinyl and the KFC prints.   I was given a large box of vinyl and just had to make something with it. Now on to other vinyl colours.

Inside there is some hand dyed gold and pink fabrics. 2 zippers and pink card slots. So happy with this wallet.

One of our guild members is moving and had a Garage sale today. I had to go. I got 2 books for $5 each. Then a large scrap bag behind the books. I also found her batiks she was selling. good deals and I did not go crazy. I also got some free fabrics to make some dog beds and stuffing to put in them. I guess I need to make some more beds.

Monday Design Wall

On Friday, I head out to quilt retreat with the Leduc guild. I have this Honey Comb quilt as a UFO that will go with me and is high on the list to complete the top. All the main blocks are done but I need to cut out more background triangles. Maybe I can get those cut before I leave. Not sure I have enough strings for the boarder so maybe I will hunt in my scraps or I will have to cut some more.

There are more Walls to see over at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts design wall Monday

Also on my wall for a bit this weekend was a new project, or should I say the fabric for a new project. This was one set of fabric. The dark batik was interviewed for the job of background. Maybe too dark.

I got out some hand dyed fabric to interview. The purple on the right looked better. But I only had a fat quarter. I needed more then 3 m. I decided to try and dye more of the same colour. I got it.
So the purple hand dyed fabric has now won the job. Maybe I can get some cutting done before I leave for retreat.

I have lots of work, Long Arm Quilting to get done this week. So best get to my customers quilts.

Purple On the Go!

All the purple I got sewn this month. I love to see it all up at once.
I have linked up with Soscrappy and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2018.

I got 9 Poverty Piecing blocks done today. Yes, Crumb blocks, I like to call them Poverty Piecing in memory of a friend Lou. She showed them to me many years ago and she called them Poverty Piecing. I do not have many little bits in the scrap box now, mostly strips and some squares and large pieces.

Migrating Geese blocks. I do not know if it is a real pattern but I have seen some of these blocks on the internet and thought I would make some.

My blocks use up 2" squares and then the geese have a 2" by 3 1/2" rectangle. I think that means the blocks finishes to 9 1/2" sq.

I had 2 of these strip sets and needed one more. I have an idea how I will use them but until I have more done there is not much to show for now. I have 3 done in pink from a few years back. Maybe in a month or 2 I can show you more about what the plan is.

I found it!
This is my all time favorite rainbow fabric to use for binding. I had some like 6 years ago but then could not find more. Well last week at a 20% off sale, there it was. I got 2 m more of it. I hope to use it as I get some Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts done. I am so happy!
You other scrap challenge ladies should understand.

I used the rainbow fabric on this quilt. I had this quilt done in early 2012 and it got a prize at the Canadian National Juried Show in May of 2012.

I think I will start some string blocks and get some purple strips used up. I got out the old phone pages. I have kept some books. Now what size to make my blocks. I am going to go look around for string blocks.

Purple Play Time

I got 4 more Honey Comb Blocks done and added then to the blocks done last week. 9 in Total. I think I might have enough blocks. So it will be time to put the blocks together. I could use just a few more blocks of some colours, like Red.

Here are the 4 new blocks. I love the Blue purples and the Red purples.

Do you see the crazy purple pears?
My mom won a fat quarter of that fabric and I asked for a strip, just for this block.

Some nice deep purples in this block.

Well on Wednesday it was Valentines Day, so I just had to make a purple heart.
My spare parts department made it quick!

I few years ago I made most of these blocks. So this week I just made the 2 on the far right to add to them. Someday it will be some kind of a quilt. Just need inspirations for a few more blocks or a special layout.

I have added this post to Soscrappy and the RSC 2018

I have also added this post to Oh Scraps

My purple sampler blocks. The top row is the 7 1/2" blocks and the bottom row is the 10" blocks.

Now all of the sampler blocks together so far.

Saturday Purples

I got some of my Purple honey comb blocks done this week, 2 blue/purple and 3 lilac blocks.

I have not sewn the top and bottom together yet. It is better to leave them like this and sew the quilt top together in rows of half blocks.

I got the pattern for the honey comb blocks Here

This post is added to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2018 and the linky party over at Soscrappy today. I have also added this post to Oh Scrap.

I worked hard at cutting and sorting my purples this week. A tray of sorted and trimmed up squares and a few triangles at the top. I have 2" squares, 2 1/2" squares and then some 3" squares. I have a few different projects planning that will use these sizes. The sampler blocks over at Soscrappy can be done mostly from this tray. I did blue blocks that were 10" finished and used the 2 1/2" squares and triangles. I might also make a smaller size too.

This is the main box of purple. Well sorted and looking pretty tidy.

The bits a pieces that do not fit anywhere. I will use this stack to start a few crumb blocks later in the month.

Scrappy Snowy Saturday

November in my part of the world is very white outside, a good time to stay in and sew. Saturday scraps for November are to be Dark Brown or Black. I am a little behind and I did some more work on my Pink scraps from last month. I had a little stack of bits of pink laying around so I made some poverty piecing blocks, 6 1/2" square. These are fun when you are in the mood to make them.

I had been working on my Honey comb blocks but was just not done enough last week to show them off. To see more of my Honey Comb blocks look here.  I found the pattern for this block Here.

So I got 6 block done in pink. I have a few different shades of pink. This was fun.

While more poverty piecing got done this week. I had a few other little stacks of scraps and was in the mood for more, so they got sewn up, Pink, Lime, and some Blue.

Here is the whole design wall.

This will get linked up to Socrappy and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017.

I have started to sort in my brown box for fabric I can use for Brown honey comb Blocks. I know I'll have another scrap block or 2 to work on in Brown. Then maybe later in the month I will look at the black box of scraps.
