Shoe Box Block Exchange

I got this block done for the Leduc Guild's Shoe Box Exchange. We pass around the shoe boxes at each meeting. Last month I had this box with the purple fabric and the pattern. I added the 2 floral fabrics and made this block.

There were 3 blocks in the box already. Here are the 4 together. I kind of liked doing this block. I have saved a copy of the pattern and might make more blocks. At the end of the whole shoe box exchange we will draw a winner of the blocks.

Guild Blocks

Four little blocks for the Leduc Guild Shoe box Exchange. I got these done last week just before our monthly meeting. I almost forgot to get them done. Good thing they were pretty simple blocks to do. I think they took my 1 hour. The Shaggy black KFC fabric was to be used and they we were to add one print to the blocks. We started by cutting a 10" square of the 2 fabrics. It then gave us 2 blocks. I used my KFC Fabrics. I got them handed in and took another shoe box to work on.

Also the Leduc guild has been working on these blocks for a raffle quilt. They are taking sometime to do. There is still another step to do. It is a mitered log cabin that you do not do the normal log cabin building. Two red strip sets will be sewn together to make 2 triangles. There was a shortage of red blocks done so I brought home some red, added to the red strings and got 6 done.

One green block done and was used as a demo block at the guild meeting. I did not make this block, not sure who did. But it gives you the idea of what we are doing.

New Blocks and Fabric

So just a quick fast post. I got some new fabric on sale from A Quilter's Home, a local Mail order quilt shop. The large pink print I got enough to use it on the back of my Red/Pink Many Trips Around the World Quilt. Getting it on sale is a bonus.

Next up are some more blocks at be used in a another Many Trips Around the World quilt. If I am going to teach this class again, it is extra nice to have a set of blocks to play with in class. So this is the start of the next set of Blocks. I have all kinds of scrappy 2 1/2" strips to use for this quilt.

This is a block for our Pizza Box exchange. I needed to get one more block done for one of the boxes. We should be done soon, not sure where we are at. I forgot to ask at guild meeting last night. The blocks for this box were so nice, it will be a pretty quilt.

Blue Spiral Quilt

I got the machine quilting done on this little blue quilt on Saturday. I now have the binding to do. I should have it done in a few days. I like to hand stitch the binding down.

I few people have asked me about the design of the block. It is a log cabin done in a spiral. I got a block in one of my pizza block exchanges done by a friend. I am sure it is out there as a basic block. I used 1 1/2" strips of fabric. I think my blocks were done till they measured 12". Half the blocks have 3 light sides and the other half of the blocks have 3 dark sides. Then I could get them to lay out with out 2 dark or 2 light strips beside each other.

I quilted it with pale blue thread and did a spiral design all over it. It is so nice a warm.

Pizza Box Block

I got a block done earlier this month for the Pizza box block exchange. I got looking in a sampler block book and found this block. Well not really this block but this is what I made. I did not fix it to the block I was trying to make. I used 2 of her fabrics and added 2 for my fabrics.

Triangles and small strip sets on the ironing board.

Also this month I got zippers! yes lots of zippers. 100 of them and in so many colours. I can make all kinds of bags.

Pizza Box Exchange - first box

The Leduc quilt guild started another pizza box change.  For the first round I did a pinwheel block, as the box owner wants us to use black and white prints. I have lots of black and white fabrics. Each person started with a box and put up to 1 meter of fabric and the first block. Also it was recommended to put in a little note book. In the note book the owner of the box can put a note about what kind of blocks they hope to get. Also as we finish a block we wright a little note to the owner. It is so much fun to get your box back at the end of the year and read your note book.

On the left are the 4 fabrics that were in the box. I used 2 of them and added 2 of my own fabrics. I found the block pattern in this great little book. I bought my mom this book for Christmas but then she was away and I kind of took it while she is gone. Don't tell her. It is the perfect book for doing block exchanges or sampler blocks.

New Design Wall Monday

Design Wall Monday is going to keep going! It has a new home over at Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.

I have put up my blocks from the Pizza Box Exchange up on the wall. 18 great looking blocks. I might add 2 more so I have 20 blocks, then I can do 4 by 5 blocks. Or maybe I need to think about on point blocks. Not sure yet.

Pin wheel block. I did leave the tags on them so far. I want to go read up who did which block and maybe why or where the pattern is from. We sent a little book to record that information in.

I love this block. A Log cabin type block.

Dresden plate

In other news. I got a happy email. I won a prize for a link up with Sew Fresh Quilts. She had a linky party for the Canada's Big Quilt Bee. I have 2 quilts so far for the Charity drive. She informed me that I won a Layer Cake of fabric which she donated.  It is a pretty bundle of Robert Kaufman fabric. I can not wait for the fabric to arrive now.

Pizza Box Blocks

We have been getting close to being done the Pizza Box Block Exchange at the Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild. I did 2 blocks for one lady that wanted dutch themed blocks. While tulips is all I could think about. I found this nice block it was called Dutch Treat

The yellow flower fabric was in her box and so was the background green. I think so was the lighter orange, I added just the dark orange which is a hand dyed fabric. I am very happy with the colour blending of this block.

I loved this block enough that I did the second block with the same pattern. The darker pink was in her box and I added the light pink dot and the orange dot fabric.

The next box I did had this Christmas paper piecing pattern. I wanted to use my cutie fabrics. I love how they came out.

Mid Week Blocks

I am still passing around the pizza box exchanges at the Leduc guild.  Here are the last 2 blocks I did. We were to make Christmas presents. I like the fabric combinations I used. This theme was perfect for the pizza box exchange.

I got the purple Slab blocks done, a total of 7 more. That is 13 purple ones I have made so far for the Big Canadian Quilt Bee. The first 6 are in the quilts I started in January. I hope by May I can get the last 18 blocks done and 2 more quilt tops done quilted and binding. I have one quilted but need binding. then one top needs quilting.

Shoe Box Blocks

At the Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild ( I some times call it the Leduc guild) we have had a few Shoe Box Exchanges going around. This past month I had the box with batik and did these 4 blocks. I have to say I love sewing with Batik fabrics. It makes me wounder why I bother with any other fabrics. The cut and sew and press so well.

The way the shoe box exchange works is the box has a pattern and a pretty fabric in the box. So the fabric yardage is to the right side. Some cuts have more pink, green, yellow or green in them.

We were to use the print and make the star block. It measures 12 1/2".

The box had one block with a pink background so I made another block to go with it. This light pink was a remnant that I had recently bought, I thought this was a good block to use some.

Blues with the mostly yellow parts of the print.

Here are all the blocks that were in the box when I finished with it. What a great set of star blocks. At the meeting they passed it out one more time. So maybe at the next meeting they will a draw and name for the winner. I made 4 blocks so I will get 4 chances to win. I think I like this set some of the best of all the shoe boxes that I have done.

I have added this post to Design Wall Monday at Patchwork Times

Pizza Box Blocks

The Black Gold Quilt Patch has a pizza box exchange going around. This past month I did these 2 blocks. The owner of the pizza block asked us to use some of the yellow and black fabric together with black and white fabrics and little splash of colour. I added in my dog print fabric and a bit of dash hound fabric. She has a dash hound so I hope she likes the blocks I made.

So I thought I would review what our guild did for the pizza block exchange.
  • Each person has a book in the pizza box, where you write out what theme you would like your box to take.
  • You also do at least one block for your box before you hand it out
  • You can also add some fabric to your box that you would like the other ladies to use in your blocks. ( we have no men so saying ladies is kind of ok)
  • This year the group is small so we ask that each person makes 2 blocks for each of the pizza boxes.
  • Each month we pass them around. So each month I make 2 blocks.
  • We have a list and an order, so I always get my boxes from the same person say Mrs F and I hand the ones I have done to the Mrs L. However, I think next time we will find there has been a little mess up on that. Oops.

Block Exchange

I forgot to post the Christmas Blocks from the Leduc guild meeting back in December. Here is the cute 12" block I did for the monthly Lotto blocks. I used some scraps left over from my tree shirt. I still need to quilt my tree shirt, oops maybe in time for next year.

The grouping of blocks the members did. I forgot who won the blocks. I know I would have liked to win the blocks. I was thinking I do not have a Christmas quilt. While when I did not win the blocks, it did get me thinking about doing a Christmas quilt. So Yes I started one, and posted Christmas quilt started yesterday.

Also I am back doing the pizza box exchange. I got this cute little fox 8" square.

One of my larger Orchids is flowing. So nice to have flowers in the middle of winter.

Shoe Box Block Exchange

At the Black Gold Quilt Patch Guild we have been doing a "shoe box exchange". It was to be a "suit case exchange" but a sweet little suit case was hard to come by. We changed it to a shoe box, easier to find a box. I got this box with the Color Play fabric in it. Then the pattern we were to make was all these triangles. The block is called Strength in Union and is a 5 unit grid. All the squares were cut to 3" and finished up to 2 1/2" square.

Here are all the blocks so far together. I think I would like to win this set of blocks. I like how it is turning out.

I liked the block enough to make another one. We have also restarted the "pizza box exchange" again. I wanted more blocks from my last pizza box, so I just did one more block and sent my pizza box around again. You can see the other blocks in my post called Pizza Box Wrap UP.

Blue Stars in November

The Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch has been doing Lotto blocks all year. November the theme was Blue Stars. I did the sweet little Friendship stars using some blue scraps. I love doing them. All of our blocks are to be finished to 12 1/2 inches.

At the month meeting we post the blocks on the wall for all to see. Then in the second part of the meeting we draw a name from the tin. You get to put your name in the tin for each block that you make. I only made one block this month.

Happy Canada Day

Finished all 3 quilts!

My mom and I have been working on 3 quilts to give to Fort Mac people who have lot their homes to the wild fires in early May. I can not imagine what they have been through. First running from the flames not know what will happen to their homes or jobs.  I can only hope these quilts can give them a big HUG.

This quilt was mostly blocks I received from 2 internet swaps that used the Kaffe Fassett collection of fabric. I also made a block for myself with the same pattern I used and sent out to others. I thought this was a very good use for the blocks. So back in May I had a stack of homeless blocks. Now a quilt.

I started this quilt the weekend the Leduc quilt guild had a big sewing bee for Fort Mac. I used lots of fabric off the donation table. Then I added some of my Hawaii fabric too.  It has turned out very cute.

I did the machine quilting for all three and my mom did the binding and labels for all three. We make a good team.

This quilt was mostly pieced by my Mom. I had a stack of 16 patches and 4 patches left from a old project. There was enough blocks still to make another quilt. It is the 3rd one like this. It is beautiful and soft.
