No Wining

So I have been working on my Celtic Solstice Mystery quilt step 1. It is a Bonnie Hunter Mystery quilt. You can find out about it on Quiltville
This photo is from Saturday night. I sewed and was having a few drinks as I sewed. Well it did not go all well. I spilt my Wine. I kind of made a bit of a mess. I reached for my pins and the taller wine glass fell over. It was White, so I just ironed it dry.

I got my Easy Street Quilt top done. This was last years Bonnie Hunter Mystery from last year. I got the top done before I started the next one.
Do you see the one patch I have to fix?

I hope to get it quilted early in the New Year. I am a little busy doing customers Quilts right now.

Here are my Celtic Solstice Mystery patches. So far so good. I am using the black as my Neutral, Blue were Bonnie said Blue and Pink batik were Bonnie has Orange. I just love some of these Batiks. So bright and clear.
Oh Yes, Bonnie has a linky page, to see more Go Here. Others mystery quilters have shown off their work.

WIP Wednesday

I have jumped on the bandwagon and started the Block of the week with Barbara Branckmen at Grandmother's Choice. The blocks are based on the suffragists, so the name Grandmother's Choice is so fitting. I am not following any of their colour choices but making up my own. The first block I have made is the 8" block which is given on the Monday's Post

I then challenged myself to see if I could do the math and make a 4" block. Oops I lost my points on the red squares. I may have not calculated the little background triangles correctly. While then I looked into Block Base, a software that goes with Barbara's book Encyclopaedia of Pieced Quilt Patterns. I have now added the software to my birthday wish list. My birthday is later this month. I love her book and with block base I would have some patterns and sizes to with the book.

See how much smaller the four inch block is. Really too small.
I have linked this post up with Freshly Pieced Wip-Wednesday

Here are the fabrics I have picked out to use. I see she has a part on yardage that I need to go check out. I need more green if I am going to use it. I like the shade I have picked out but the one is a small piece and the other fabric is bad quality and I do not want to use it. I hope I can find something else to go with it.

Tuesday was back to school for my boys. I have gotten photos of them on their first day of school for years. This year they are being turkeys.

I am ready for my talk tonight in Leduc at the guild meeting. Got quilts packed, my hand out done and a few boxes of blocks and scraps to show what I do with my scrapes.

Works In Progress Wednesday

Monday, I decided to work on my quilting because it was a holiday in Alberta and I wanted to use the holiday for myself. I started quilting on my Lime Green Star Struck. I came close to finishing but not quiet. I need to finish it today and get working on a customers quilt next. I might make some more Jam tonight after it cools down (say midnight).

I have added today's post to Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday and Needle and Thread Network.

I have left these two photos a little larger if you want to enlarge the photo to see it closer. I still have to finish the blue stars and the last of the boarder.

Look what I won.

Yesterday I spent the day in the city. Mom and I went to the Funereal of a old quilt friend. A perfect services for an old friend. Then some shopping, supper and then a quilter's trunk show, complete with a magic show too.  I won these tie silks at the trunk show.

Turtle Bay by Claudia Pfeil

Claudia Pfeil of Germany is in town to teach machine quilting. Last night was a free trunk show. Turtle Bay by Claudia Pfeil was there in person. She is shipping it out to a quilt show today.

This quilt is amazing to see in person. Great work. I will say she spend a large part of a year on just this quilt ( well and running a business and kids ect). But my point is I do not think I could do just one quilt at a time. I get far to distracted.

WIP Wednesday and Recap July

I am looking back at July to see what I have done. I did not finish a quilt of mine, I did help my customers by machine quilting many of their quilts. This collection of rainbow blocks is looking great. I added four blue ones this month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012 (RSC2012). I also got half of my Spider Web Quilt pieced together and need to get the other half up on the wall and pieced together.

I got many more wacky log cabin blocks done also for the RSC2012 in blue for the month of July.

I got five more Forester`s wife blocks done that is part of a sew a long and the RSC2012.

I got this quilted in July but did not get around to doing the binding. This is very small and was quick to do but still not done. I plan to use this on my small coffee table as I need some kind of place mat.

Here is the back, it is even in rainbow thread.

I have done a ton of machine quilting. This is one that is currently on the machine and is very very large. I thought I would post a photo as the customer sometimes checks my blog and I want to give her a little peak at what I am doing on her quilt. I am so pleased with it.

The fruit around here has been crazy. Yesterday I spend the day in the kitchen trying to use some of it up. I made a Rhubarb and Raspberry Crisp.

Then I made three bashes of Raspberry Jam. I have picked at least four large pails of berries in the last few days. Glad to have the berries.

Then a double bash of Raspberry and almond muffins. I took my Blueberry muffin recipe and added two table spoons of ground almond and some almond extract. I also did six pies on Saturday but did not get any photos. I have Saskatoon berries on the trees and I not sure I will pick any as I am almost done with the kitchen.

WIP Wednesday

I have been adding a white frame around the rainbow blocks that I had on my design wall. I plan to add the dark green fabric next in the same fashion that was done on This Quilt but she used grey. I just really dislike grey and hate to use it. So I will use Avocado Kona Cotton instead.  After I get this done I am planning to work on my blue scrapes again for Scrap Saturday.

I have added this post to Needle and Thread Network WIP Wednesday and Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday

I have been machine quilting lots this week. Here in Alberta we are having a heat wave and no AC in the house so the basement is the best place to be, working in my sewing studio. I think many other Alberta quilters are sewing too. I have had so many calls the past two days about doing machine quilting for them. Good, more work to keep me out of trouble.

This quilt is one of my customers that would like to remain unnamed. I am very happy how it has come out. I will be delivering it back to her this week and picking up the next two quilts she has for me to do. Yes, I sometimes pick up and deliver quilts.

Last night I had a Dog Agility Trial. It was an evening trial with just two runs. Talk about Hot. We did not pass the steeple chase class but we passed our Starter Jumpers. My dog was very good but had the one time were he visited the timer and scribe. What a friendly dog.

WIP Wednesday Work In Progress

I have linked up to Freshly Pieced WIP Wednesday on this 4th of July. Happy Independence Day to my American friends and family. Yes I have cousins that are Americans. As a Canadian I have added this to Needle and Thread Net Work.

I am working on more blocks for my RRCB quilt. I have decided to make it larger and I need more blocks.

My stack of blocks so far. I have changed the colour to some of my favourite colours.

I hope to get the coloured blocks done this week and maybe next week attack the string blocks I need.

I also got this little triangle scrap quilt sew together. It is now a quilt top and off the design wall. I will have to squeeze in some time and see if I can get it quilted this week too. I have ton of machine quilting to do for customers. I need to keep on track. Maybe stay off the internet after I check out what the other WIP quilter`s are doing.

WIP Wednesday Log Cabin

I have been working hard on the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012. This month is Purple. I love Purple and have lots of scraps to use. This week I want to make Purple Log Cabins to add to this little group of untidy Log Cabins. I have not really thought how I would lay this out but here is one thought. I may make rows of colour but then need more Red Pink and Yellow. The colour balance would allow for more Green and Purple which I have lots of. I would not need more Yellow as if we do Orange it is kind of like Yellow.

What are you working on this week?

I have added today's post to Freshly Pieced and Sew Many Ways

I am going on a Shop Hop trip today as a guest with the Mulhurst Quilt Guild. Many of my bee group members are on the bus with me today. Hoping lunch will be good.

WIP Wednesday

Before I quilted the Pray Flag

Tonight is the Edmonton Guild year end dinner and raffle of the endowment fund Button and Bead goodys. I have donated a glass bead bracelet. I will be buying tickets for some of the other great donation. I hope to get some photos tonight of the Button and Bead creations.

I have finished this Pray Flag for a quilt friend. I hope that one of the members can take it to her. I have been working on my purple scraps this month for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012, and I know that the purple scraps will be well received by the quilter. At our last meeting we were asked to sign a flag for her but I wanted to make something better. I hope that it will let her know I am thinking of her. I like to call this scrap work Poverty Piecing. I have used some of the smallest possible pieces.

Machine quilting add to the Pray Flag

I have added this to Canadian Needle and Thread Network WIP Wednesday and Fresh Lemons WIP Wedensday.  There are many other sites to look at. I know I will have to look at more later today.
