Retreat Fall 2013

Here is my Easy Street quilt top hanging from the railing at retreat. The lady in green is my mom, Betty. I had all the blocks done before but took them to retreat and got them together. I still need to do the boarders. But it is getting closer to being done. I hope to get the boarders on before Bonnie Hunter's next mystery quilt that starts in November. I am planning to do the next again this year.

Here is a photo of the room. I believe there were 37 of us this year. It is run by my Aunt Arley and held at Sunnyside Camp on Sylvan Lake.

I broke my special seam ripper, dropped it on the floor. I left it in the garbage can.  I will have to make a new ripper. I feel I am short a seam ripper even though I dug out a cheap one. Not the same as the one I had.

Scrap Saturday Black

I got a RSC13 quilt top done at retreat last weekend. My mom and I went to a retreat run by my aunt (Smiley Quilter). It is four days long, so I got lots done. I had to finish four more blocks and then I got the top put together. It measures 45" square. I do not think I will put a boarder on it. Maybe just quilt it after Christmas. I am busy quilting for customers between now and Christmas.

Close up of the piecing and fabrics.

I worked on some black scraps this past week. I love doing this Poverty Piecing (crumb blocks). I find it hard to stop sewing the little bits together. They are just so additive to sew. I did 7 black ones but then counted up all that I have done this year. So far I have over 70 blocks 6" sq each.

I have added this post to the  linky Party at Soscrappy

I am going to a dog agility fun trial later today. Should be fun.

Lady Bug Party Finished

I have a quilt finished. I got this Lady Bug Party Quilt done in time for the Leduc Quilt show last weekend. I was working on it the night before I had to leave and get my husband to take it to the quilt show. I did not take photos till Yesterday. It was a bit windy so it was a tough job.

Close up of the quilting. I did some lady bugs and them filled in with leaves and loops.

Blowing

Fell on the lawn once.

Here is another close up.

I have added today's finish to Crazy mom quilts linky party

This quilt was a mystery quilt we did with the Leduc quilt guild back in May of 2012. It was from the ladies at Prairie Quilt Mercantile.  The pattern was a little to simple for me but I am glad I picked some great fabric out.

I have been busy. Last weekend was a retreat and the Leduc Quilt Show. I went to retreat and sent my quilts to the show. My husband and dad had to help deliver my quilts and the guild quilt stands and dowels. Sounds like the Quilt show was a hit again. I got lots done at retreat. I have a quilt top to show for Saturday's Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013.

Design Wall Monday Sept 30

Not a lot of change from last week. I got this little 10" block done for the Block of the Month program we are doing at the Leduc quilt guild. We were given the gold fabric and we added the other colours. They are to be a fall theme. I used fabric out of the scrap bins.
The Jack in the Box blocks on the right are just like last week. I still need a few more blocks.
The left side has the dog and Lex block. I was planning on making a book cover. Maybe I should take it to retreat, later in Oct.

I have added today's post to Judy's Design Wall Monday

September Shopping

I have done a little bit of fabric shopping this past month. I love these stacks of fabrics. A few batiks, some dark chocolate prints, the pink and turquoise. I also bought a new pattern. I do not buy many patterns but it is so Canadian, I had too.
More machine quilting planned for the week. Maybe I get to cut into some of these and do some of my own patchwork.

Last of the Blues

Light Blue has been the colour for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge this month. I got some string triangles done this week. I did not really worry about only using the light blues but tried to make it mostly lighter.

I then worked on the 6 1/2"sq crumb blocks. Again, I most started with the lightest of the blues and let medium and darker ones migrate in. You can see I love the turquoise blues. I have a total of 14 blue crumbs.

I could still do some more blue. Maybe later this week. I have a few random blocks I could do. Maybe Butterflies or some kind of pieced flower blocks.

I had trouble stopping the crumbs. I find that once I have a mess of the littlest bits I just can not stop making larger bits. I did a few more Red ones. Some were shown last month but I was not sure which ones so here are all 10 of them.

The drawer of crumbs is getting full. I thought it would be fun to show the piles I have made so far this year.

Soscrappy has a linky party for us all to show off our Rainbow Scrap Challenge. Go see what other quilters are doing with their scraps. There are some great ideas. You can join in the fun any time. You do not need to start in Jan (I started in January of 2011).

Edit: to answer the comments. I do not make the crumbs on paper. I just sew small pieces together and add to each part. Then when I think it is big enough I do a final iron and trim it down. I have a ruler close by the machine. The little flying geese are mostly left overs from sewing binding together. I end up with lots of little triangles.

Finish it up Friday - Tea Cosy

I have been saving selvages for a while. I finally finished a project that used a few up. I love drinking tea every day and make a good sized pot every morning. Before long it is cold. So a Tea Cosy was needed. It is so much fun to use the salvages from projects long past. I did not make a dent in the bag of selvages I have.

I have added the little finish to Crazy Mom Quilts Finish it up Friday
I will have it done and ready for the Quilt Show in Leduc (at the Niski Inn) Oct 18 and 19th. I have so much more to finish by the time the quilt show rolls around.

Machine Quilting Crazy

This is a Civil War Block of the month quilt of my Mom's. I think it is the Marcus Brother's line of fabric and block of the month quilt pattern. The fabric colours are so warm yet some are very bright.

This photo can be enlarged to see the machine quilting better.

Here it is done and coming off the frame. I was glad to see this one done. It was on the machine for over a week and took my days and days to do. It measures 104" square.

I am still machine quilting like crazy this week. I am trying to get the quilts done that are needed for the Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch Quilt Show. It is Oct 18 and 19th at the Niski Inn. I hope you can come by and see if you are local.

Here is the back of Betty's quilt. I think I went though more than 3000m of thread for this quilt.

Design Wall Monday

I have been working my way though my scraps by following along with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013. I was not planning on doing every colour for this block but just the primaries and secondary colours. So we have done those six colours now. I am a little behind and need more Red blocks and maybe just one or two other blocks to fill in all the wholes. I have added this post to Judy's Design Wall Monday.

The Block is Jack in the box. I found it in Bonnie Hunter's Addicted to scraps . I just needed some triangles to get this block done, it is 8" square. I am thinking it will be a great baby quilt for some special kid.

Last week I was at a special evening sale at Quilter's Dream and entered the draw. I won one of the prizes sponsored by Pfaff. Eight great rayon threads. We will have to see how I use them. My kids think I am lucky because I win these draws but they have no idea how many of these draws and raffle tickets I buy. Maybe I am a little lucky.

A Weeks Worth in one post

Crazy busy week and all cramped in one little post. I did get some light Blue scraps done for my Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2013. I worked on the Jack in the Box blocks.

I got four blue ones and one Red on done. I still need a few more red ones.

I am also trying to get all the spools done. So a few blue ones but then a mix of other colours. I have added this post to Soscrappy Saturday's linky party.

Wednesday was our 20th anniversary and my husband got me Roses.

Then Friday was my birthday. My mom gave me a cute fat quarter with lady bugs and matching scissors with a zinger. Just one of my gifts. This is the start of the month of Cake. We have a few more birthdays in the family with in the next three weeks.

I am trying to get some binding done. I have quilted a few of my projects over the past month and now it is binding time. We have the Leduc Black Gold Quilt Patch Quilt Show in Oct so it is get it done time. I have added this to Kathy's Quilts for slow Sunday stitching.

We had a little frost this week so today was time to get all of the garden in. Here are some tomatoes and squash.
