Christmas Gifts

I did a tuffet for my sister in law for Christmas. She does not have much colour in her house so I gave it a zap of brightness. I think she liked it.

I used the Pinks I had from the Kaffe Fassett collection.

Next I got working on some zipper bags. This one with the stamp fabric was for my dad. I put his main gift inside the bag. I gave him some Iphone cords and a jack for his new ride. We call it the Big Orange because it is Orange and has a lift kit and large tires and makes lots of noise. Old guy are still just boys at heart. He has fun with it.

This one was for my brother's boy. He likes Star Wars. I had some money in it for him.

I gave this one for my mom. I had a little spoon and spread knife in it for her. I had to make her one if my dad was getting one.

It had a pocket in it. I made the pocket just perfect, I might have to ask for it back so I know what I did right.

I also made the one on the left for me. These two kind of go together well.

All Together. The pattern for these bags came from Sew Like a Rock Star. It is called the Bionic Essentials Bag. I signed up for the level 2 member. You can buy the pattern for $9 US if that is all you want. I also bought the pattern for the Bionic Gear Bag. Maybe by next week I can be done that to show off.

For my brother's family I made Pillow cases. 2 are Star Wars and the one on the far left is Star Trek. My brother is the Star Trek fan.

Monday's Wall

My wall is looking the same as Saturday. I was to busy working on Icing my fancy cookies this weekend. This was started when Bonnie Hunter released a leaders and enders challenge this summer. One example she suggested was the Checkerboard in black and white. I just had to also do it Rainbow too.

Also I am winding down on the machine quilting for Christmas. This is one customer's quilt I did earlier this month. I have one small wall hanging to do today. Then I can work on some small gifts.

Here is the whole quilt with one little spot of sunlight.

Christmas Cookies

Well I spend a second day decorating cookies. I did not get all of them done but now I have an impressive collection to add to the plate. I just love the Santa faces done out of a cupcake cutter.

The mittens and light bulbs were some of the faster cookies to do.

There is the snowmen and a few dog faces.

More snow men and light bulbs.

I only cut out 4 of these dogs. I will have to do more of them another time. I love the black lab wrapped up in the lights. The green face is to be the Grinch.

Only one little car cut out but it is so cute. Also love the snowflakes, they are also kind of quick to do and are less sweet.

Later this week I will get back to sewing. I have some gifts to finish. I also started a Bionic Gear Bag, wow lots of videos to watch and to figure that out. I get more done and show that this week.

Rainbows Underway

I got the time to get part of this rainbow quilt up on the design wall. I might need a few more blocks but I think I have most of them done now. Bonnie Hunter gave out a challenge of rail fence this summer, so I started making these. One of her ideas was to have the Checkerboard. I know I wanted to add in the challenge of rainbow scrap blocks too. I am not going to do a real complete rainbow, no yellow, more blue.

Here is a few more blocks on the wall. I do not have all of this sewn yet. Maybe after Christmas day I can get more time in on it. I am very busy finishing up for Christmas. I have a few more gifts to sew.

This week I have also been busy cooking Christmas Cookies and Candy. How is this for Rainbow like. I am calling it Unicorn Poop Fudge. It is made with white chocolate and food colouring and then the sprinkles. It is very very sweet. I also added Raspberry flavor to it.

Today I started putting icing on the fancy cookies. Wow it is taking a long time. My hands are sore too. It has been a while since I have had icing bags in my hand for a full day. I will have to take a bunch of photos when I get more done on Sunday.

I started with the white. But soon the red and green will come out.

I have added this post to Soscrappy and the Rainbow Scrap challenge 2017. I have plans to do more for 2018.

Cherry On Top

I got some photos of my Cherry On Top quilt. I think I will use it as a table topper but I might try hanging in the kitchen first. I got the pattern for the cherry block and the layout from the Vintage Farm Girl. The layout is the little chick quilt but I used the Cherry block. I just had fun digging out my Red and Pink prints to make the round cherries.

I also found this print for the boarder after I had done the blocks. I just loved the cherries.

I did all the quilting on my long arm. I loved how the quilting worked out.

Here it is hanging at the Leduc show this fall.

Rainbow Works

I have some purple strip sets done and ready for the next step of cutting. I used 1 1/2" strips mostly out of my scrap bins. I sorted them all into 4 different colour groups. You can see the top 2 sets are more the red purples and the bottom two sets are the blue purples. I just love projects that I can randomly sew strips and then cut out the next step. I should see what else I can make doing that. Maybe a diamond quilt.

The lilac purple strip and the dark purple strips are still needing to be sewn. I might get to it later today. I have to do more machine quilting work for customers today.  The Christmas orders are on a deal line. I hope this time next week I will be done and can be on holidays.

I am thinking about next year already and what projects I should work on. As today is Saturday, Scrap day, Next years rainbow challenge is on my mind. I have 3 or 4 projects that are getting so close to a finished quilt top. I think they should be top of the list. Then, What kind of new blocks should I work on?

I have linked up to Soscrappy and the Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

My step 2 of On Ringo Lake is done and sorted in nice piles. Step 3 came out yesterday but It will have to wait a few days.

This is what I worked on last week when I was out sewing with my mom. It is a pattern from Sting Fling by Bonnie Hunter, called Cotton Candy ( I can not spell the Germany name she used). I have made it will all batik fabrics. I just love it. The photo shows 9 blocks together and the blocks are 9 ". I think I will just make it large lap quilt size. Ha Ha, I typed Lab first you know my dog a lab.

I have horse shoes! The other day I just about got a ticket for speeding, the guy in front of me got pulled over, I did not. Then later in the day I was at Quilter's Dream's Elf night sale. They had door prizes and I won this little kit to make Santa ornaments. How lucky is that?

Christmas Is coming

I got my Christmas Tree shirt finished. Years ago I made a very plain looking skirt, it got some stains was not nice to start with but it did the job. So for years I have thought I needed to make a good quilted tree skirt. Finally it is done. I cheated a little and my mom, Betty did the patchwork. I picked the colours and did the quilting and binding.

Last year, our tree was cut from our land and I think we will be taking another one that we planted about 15 years ago. We have a very small tree plantation. We planted maybe 800 tees planted. We used some in our yard and about 30 for my parents farm yard ( now sold ). I am so happy that this year the tree will have a good looking finish to it. My Husband is in Forestry so we have always done a real tree.

Here is the quilting. I did holly leaves and berries all over it. The prints are so busy it does not show the quilting.

This is the skirt hanging at the Leduc quilt show.

Wednesday night was the Leduc guild meeting and the Christmas Pot luck dinner. We have a little Christmas exchange each year. This year it was to be something for the kitchen. I did the little selvage pot holders, above. In return I got the snow men place mats. Jan made the place mats and they are so cute. Thank you Jan.

I have linked up to Crazy Mom Quilts and Confessions of a Fabric Addict. Go see what else has been finished by the others.

On Ringo Lake a start

Here is my step one of the Bonnie Hunter Mystery. I love the turquoise and brown together. I had mostly scrappy strips to do most of this step. I have a few extra nine patches and I was having some 1/4" sewing trouble and things were not the correct size for a bit. I ended up taking most of them apart and redoing the seams. They are now the correct size.

I am slowly working on step 2. It uses the pink in my quilt. Some are a bit more coral.

I have added this to Bonnie Hunter's linky party.

Saturday Scraps

I am away sewing with my mom today. The Edmonton Guild is having a UFO day. I do not think I will take this project as it needs more design wall work. I still have to put up the greens, teal and Lime. I love playing like this. I have almost enough blocks to make this quilt big. At least 90" square, but I might want it a bit bigger. I might be making a few more blocks. Also I think I could draft this out on paper too. Colouring!

I have added this to Soscrappy today.

So what to pack to sew on:
  1. I think I will take step 2 of Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt, so I need pink/corals and neutrals. I did play with what method was best for me on Friday. I think I will do add a square and trim off the bonus triangles.
  2. Next to pack, red Canada 150 blocks. I have that in a bag to go. I should show off my blocks I do have done. I am getting some were with it. Mom and I are doing this together, she is doing the even numbers and I am doing the odd numbers.
  3. Next, Oh the new project, batiks. Oh I need photos too. I will show something more on the wall Monday. It is Pink Purple and Turquoise, and all batik. So much fun!

Have a good day sewing. Or maybe you are baking for Christmas, Have you started yet?

Fancy Forest Friends

My critters are all done! Last year 2016 I saw this quilt at one of the shops. I loved the pattern. It is by Elisabeth Hartman, you can get your own copy of the pattern with the link.

I got the quilt finished in time to put it in the Leduc quilt show but had not taken the time to get my nice outdoor shots. This week we have had warmer weather and nice clean snow. So I got the hang it on the fence this week.

I love all the colours. I used mainly the Kaffe Fassett collection and then some light hand dyed fabrics by me. I love how they play well together. The background fabric is a linen type cotton, so it is a little heaver then quilting cotton.

I know some of the royal blue blends but I think the background is grey enough for the blue to show.

I quilted it with a free motion wood grain that I just did. I got better the more I did.

Snow photos
